一、平面设计方向的包装设计

什么是设计？概而言之，设计是解决问题——解决人们在生活中所遇到的各种精神与物质方面的问题。 包装设计要解决产品的保护，运输、储藏等一系列问题。而且要解决如何减少对环境的污染，保护生态的问题。由此，我们又可以将包装设计看成是一种工程设计。

从包装设计所要解决这么多的问题来看，它应当是一种综合着社会学、经济学、心理学以及物理、化学、机械、材料等多种学科知识、技能的复合性设计。

如果要将包装设计的概念进一步阐述的话，我们认为：现代包装设计的性质主要体现在它的各种功能上，包装的设计是多种功能的满足。

由于包装设计具有的综合性性质，在我国现有的学科分类中，包装设计被分在两个学科中；一种是属于工科类的包装工程，其课程体系以包装材料、包装机械、包装印刷、包装结构与包装设计等为主要内容，其中工科类的课程主导地位，而视觉传达性质的包装设计只占个课程体系中的一部分；另一种属于艺术设计类的平面设计，其课程体系以包装的视觉的平面设计，其课程体系以包装的视觉传达设计方面为主，而包装的材料、结构与印刷方面的内容为辅。
