1.汽油直接喷射

普通的汽油机设计用电子控制燃油喷射系统替代传统机械汽化系统。目前，将燃油喷入各个进气道口的多点喷射系统（MPI）是应用最为广泛的系统之一。尽管MPI大大提高了响应性和燃烧质量，但是由于燃油和空气在进入气缸之前进行混合而形成混合气，这种优越性也会受到限制。

为了进一步提高响应性和燃烧效率，同时降低燃油消耗，提高输出，系统可以采用直接喷射。汽油直接喷射发动机被设计成将汽油直接喷射进气缸内，喷射的方法与直接喷射式柴油机相似。

直接喷射可设计成具有更大的控制灵活性和更高的精确度，因而提高了燃油经济性。这一点是通过使许多工况下能够进行超稀薄混合气的燃烧来实现的。直接喷射的设计还允许采用更高的压缩比，因而提高了动力性，并降低了燃油消耗。目前，直接喷射汽油机在全世界范围正在在轿车上得到推广应用。

1）三菱GDI

三菱汽车公司的目标是取得低油耗、高输出。MMC（三菱汽车公司）是世界上缸内直接喷射汽油机开发的先驱者。它的缸内直接喷射汽油机叫做“GDI”，最早安装在1996年款戈兰特轿车上。GDI系统将燃油直接输送到气缸内。
