“口译”一词的英语“interpretation”的动词形 式“interpret”来自拉丁语“interpretari”,意思是 “explain”，表示“解释”；而“interpretari”的名词 形式为“interpres”，意思是“a negotiator”（协商 者，谈判者）。由此可见，口译行为是一种语际 解释行为(explanatory act)，它是根据来源语的语言 符号化来表现的，并且通过对语言符号化表现的 解释来获得对来源语意义的理解[ 1]。据此，可以作 如下的图示：
