本课程为综合素质拓展课程，由英语教育专业教师在多媒体教室授课，利用视频、音频、图片等现代化的多媒体辅助教学手段，帮助学生了解英美两国的自然地理、社会文化、政治历史等方面的知识。 二、教学目标

该课程的教学目标是，使学生对英美两国的名称由来、位置地貌、地形特征、气候特点、人口宗教、国家经济，历史演变、著名人物、国体政体、教育制度、家庭生活、风俗习惯、价值观念等方面有一个较清晰的了解，并对于自己感兴趣的某一领域进行深刻的学习和研究。从而帮助学生开阔视野，扩大知识面，弥补异域文化背景知识方面的不足。 二、课程内容及时间安排 课程内容提要：

“英美概况”是为非英语专业学生开设的综合素质拓展课，用英语授课，穿插有汉语讲解。参考教材为《英美概况》由来方安编写，河南人民出版社出版。全书分英、美概况等两个部分，共分十二次进行讲解。授课课件为全英，授课方式为英汉双语。课程考查，以试卷形式开卷考试。意在检测学生本学期内对于该门课程的了解程度，以及对于该部分常识性内容的了解。具体讲授内容如下：
