I was raised by a teacher and I've always attended public schools.I wouldn't trade my education and experience for anything.

I had incredible teachers.As I look at my life today，the things I value most about myself — my imagination，my love of acting，my passion for writing，my love of learning，my curiosity — all come from how I was parented and taught.

And none of these qualities I've just mentioned，that have given me such happiness and success，can be tested.

But that was in the 1970s.Today tests are used to decide everything — where students can study；how good you are as a teacher.It's crazy!

As a consequence，teachers spend most of their time desperately drilling students and less time encouraging creativity and original ideas；less time knowing who we were，seeing our strengths and helping us realize our talents.

It must be horrible for teachers now.I came here today to deliver an important message to you and I'm not alone.I'm one of the millions of people who support you.We too oppose testing.

So the next time you're feeling down，or exhausted，or unappreciated，or at_the_end_of_your_rope，please know that there are millions of us behind you.You have an army of regular people standing right behind you，and our appreciation for what you do is so deeply felt.We love you，we thank you and we will always have your back.

The Pacific Northwest is one of the world's best areas for beachcombing(海滩搜寻) because winds and currents join here，and as a result，there is a group of serious beachcombers in the area.Ebbesmeyer got to know a lot of them and asked for their help in collecting information about where the shoes landed.In a year he collected reliable information on 1，600 shoes.With this data，he and a colleague were able to test and improve a computer program designed to model ocean currents，and publish the findings of their study.

As the result of his work，Ebbesmeyer has become known as the scientist to call with questions about any unusual objects found floating in the ocean.He has even started an association of beachcombers and ocean experts，with 500 subscribers from West

Africa to New Zealand.They have recorded all lost objects ranging from potatoes to golf gloves.

It's almost impossible to go through life without experiencing some kind of failure.If you have a fear of failure，you might be uncomfortable setting goals.But goals help us decide where we want to go in life.Without goals，we have no sure destination.
