参考范文

Three brothers, who worked for the same company , received different wages due to their different attitudes towards their work, which shows right attitude is of great help to one’s life. Their different attitudes towards their work result in their different wages. From the story I can conclude that those who take positive attitude towards work will be rewarded.

Different attitudes lead to different results. Take Xiao Hua as an example. They are both my classmates. Not only does he put his heart into study but he is also helpful both to teachers and students. So he has become a top student in our class, even in the grade. With his diligence and concentration, he is bound to succeed in entering his ideal university. However, Xiao Li never cares about his study because he is addicted to playing games, he turns a deaf ear to the teachers’ advice. As a result, he falls far behind others in his study.

In my opinion, attitude is everything. No matter what you do, you must do it well even if you may fail many times. Sooner or later you will be rewarded for your positive attitude towards your work or life.

读写任务2

阅读下面短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Snacks can be a good way to stop your hunger and get the vitamins your body needs. But you need to pay attention to what you eat. Choosing healthy snacks means shopping smart. Be

careful of the health claims on food packages. Just because something says “all natural” or “pure” it doesn’t always mean it’s good for you. Be careful of low-fat food claims, too. If the fat has been cut back the amount of sugar in the food may have been increased to keep the food tasting good. Many low-fat foods have nearly as many calories as their full-fat versions. Here are some ways to make healthy snacking part of your everyday routine.

*Keep healthy snacks with you. Keep plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables at home, so you can take them with you when you go out.

*Satisfy cravings (渴望) with healthier foods. If you’re crazy about chocolate, try a hot chocolate drink instead of a chocolate bar. Trade ice-cream for yogurt. If you want something salty, eat whole grain biscuits instead of potato chips.

*Pay attention to the amount you eat. As with everything, moderation (适度) is the key to smart snacking.

Possible version:

The author of the passage intends to inform us of the necessity for teens to choose healthy and moderate snacks, which is beneficial to their health. He also suggests to us some ways to make healthy snacking part of our daily life.

As we know, some snacks are high in fat or sugar. Taking too much fat can result in obesity. And most fat people act and react slowly, which has a bad effect on their work and study. Worse still, they are liable to some diseases, such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, heart trouble and so on.

It’s highly advisable that those who are crazy about snacks should eat snacks when necessary. For example, after you take exercise and feel hungry, you’d better have some healthy snacks, such as fresh fruit, nuts, raisins and so on, which is much enough to add the necessary calories or nutrients.

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。 Dear Wei Hua,

I’d like to tell you that I managed to achieve a full score of 120 points in Canada, where the iBT TOEFL was launched earlier this year. I decided to take the test only one month before the due date in June.

You may wonder how I did it. Now let me tell you .I went over several TOEFL vocabulary books and practiced a lot of model tests on the computer. Apart from my preparations for the test, my solid language skills also led to my new TOEFL success. In 2004, I participated in the third “21 st Century Cup” National High School English Speaking Competition held by China Daily as a Junior 3 student and won the top prize.

Testing speaking skills is an added part of the new TOEFL test. My good performance in this test

mostly resulted from my speech practice before I moved to live and study in Canada last year. To prepare for the speaking competition, my teacher asked me to make speeches in the canteen at lunch breaks. Surrounded by many students, I heard them saying, “What’s wrong with that girl? Is she crazy?” I had to be brave and confident enough to stand on the stage when the day came,” I also believe that Rome wasn’t built in one day. To learn English well, we have to keep practicing: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Yours,

Chang Mengsu

I hope you will give me more advice on how to learn English well and wish you a good journey to Canada.

Yours,

Wei Hua Possible version: Dear Mengsu,

Congratulations on your success in getting such a high mark in TOEFL. Your efforts have paid off. From your e-mail I know your success resulted from full preparations and your solid language but the most important factor is that you keep practicing.

A famous saying goes that “Practice Makes Perfect”. It means it is practice that enables us to do something efficiently, esp. learning a foreign language. Any perfect accomplishment of task is the result of longtime practice. If we understand this saying and apply it to our English study, we’ll benefit a lot from it.

With the coming of the 2008 College Entrance Examination, we are busy preparing for it. In order to improve my listening, I’ll keep on listening to some programmes on VOA and BBC and also the tapes that go with the listening materials. I’ll seize every opportunity to speak English so that I can develop an instinctive feel for the English language. I’ll read all available English newspapers and magazines to enlarge my vocabulary. Keeping a diary is a good way of improving my written English. When in trouble, I’ll turn to my teachers or my classmates for help.

I hope you will give me more advice on how to learn English well and wish you a good journey to

Canada.

One day, Zeng’s wife decided to go out for shopping, but her little son insisted on going with her to the market. Thinking that she would come back very soon, and that the naughty boy would bring her a lot of trouble, she was unwilling to do so.

In order to persuade the boy to stay home, she told him, “Oh, come on, good boy, if you listen to Mom and then Mom will give you a present when I am back.”

“What present are you going to give me, Mom?” asked the son.

“We haven’t eaten meat for a long time, so I will kill our pig and let you enjoy a big nice dinner.” The mother comforted the boy when it happened that their pig was wandering in front of the house. Just at that time, her husband came back and heard what she said. Thinking of the nice meal, the boy gave in.

Not very soon, the mother came back, but what she saw shocked her. It was her husband who had killed the only pig of the poor family.

Stick to what you promise

As described in the passage, Mr Zeng firmly kept his wife’s promise to his child, form which we learn that Mr. Zeng is worth depending on and good at educating children.

I can’t agree more with Mr. Zeng’s education method. Had I been his child, I would have formed a deep impression on it and gradually cultivated this quality. Just as an old saying goes, “Action speak louder than words.” If our parents themselves can do what they promise, we are likely to follow them.

The passage so well retained me the remembrance of an experience. Once, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t play basketball that week. Nevertheless, it is so fascinating that I even tried to persuaded myself to enjoy it. In time, I resisted the temptation and kept my promise. Since then, I have realized that it is keeping our promise that makes us feel a sense of

fulfillment and wins respect from others. So, please stick to your promise.

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

An old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. The family ate together at the table, but his shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became angry with the mess. So they set a small table in the corner. There Grandfather ate alone while they enjoyed dinner.

Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The grandson watched silently. One evening, the father noticed the son playing with wood scraps and asked the child sweetly, “What are you making?” The boy responded, “Oh, I am making a bowl for you and mum to eat your food in when I grow up.”

The words struck the parents so hard that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. The son took gently led Grandfather back to their table. From then on, he ate every meal with them. Neither of them seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

The story tells us that the grandfather was treated badly by his son and daughter-in-law and the change of the couple’s attitudes after they saw their son was preparing a bowl for them. (33 words)

As for me, I always showed my respect and love to the old. When I was young, I brought my questions to them for help often, which made them busy but happy. I formed a habit to take a walk with them after dinner, talking about my study, ambitions and their rich experience.

In my opinion, we should treat the old people just like what we want to be treated when we are old. Honor and respect should be given to them by their relatives and the whole society, because they are in poor health, bad mental conditions, and can’t manage everything by themselves. Besides, they’ve already contributed a lot to their family and society and they deserve love from us all. (122 words ) 读写任务6

We Have Different Ideas!

This may be the most important choice—the turning point in my life. Never before have I been so serious. For me, a Senior Three student, which university to choose is really a hard question, especially when I hold a completely different opinion from my parents.

I’m longing for Wuhan University for its long history, beautiful campus and academic atmosphere. Besides, it’s a good chance to experience a different culture.

But to my great surprise, when my parents heard this, they are strongly against my idea. Moreover, I was shocked to find mum crying! She asked in tears, “Why don’t you stay in Guangzhou? So young a girl, how can you take good care of yourself? Wuhan, oh! It’s too far away. What if I want to see you or you want to see me?” My father also asked me a serious question, “Are you sure you can find a good job in Guangzhou after graduation?”

Actually, I’ve thought about all these. As an independent and active girl, I certainly can handle all the problems. I insist on my choice, but I really value my parents’ agreement. 【写作要求】

1. 概括短文要点,字数为30词左右;

One possible version:

Where to Go for University?

The author described a conflict between her parents and herself on whether to go to Wuhan University. As an independent girl, she wants to experience more in another city while her parents worry a lot.

As her head teacher, I have the responsibility to help solve the problem even without her begging. Firstly, I should admit I really understand your feelings. Parents always love and care for their children no matter how old they are. It actually is a great challenge for a young girl to study in another city. What’s more, when in the 4th year, she may have to come back to Guangzhou several times to seek a good job here.

As an old saying goes, every coin has two sides. If you see it in a more optimistic way, you’ll find more benefits. In my memory, she’s always independent and strong. No matter what happens, she remains calm and intelligent. As a consequence, I believe she could handle everything. Additionally, Wuhan University is a most famous university in China, so, if she spares no efforts to study, she’ll certainly get a dreaming job. Most importantly, it’s a good opportunity to broaden her horizons and make more friends.

All in all, I’m fully convinced that to study in another city is really a good way to enrich one’s life experience. 读写任务7

阅读下面的短文,然后按要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

An English proverb goes like this , \to enable a child to grow healthily , parents must make him eat bitter foods, do hard work and be sent to places where he can get the fullest training and knowledge.

First of all , eating bitter foods is necessary for a child . Poor food can help cultivate in him the frugal (节俭的 ) habit and make him realize what we eat daily is the fruit of the sweat of the laboring people . Consequently , he will not be wasteful when he grows up . Secondly , parents should also make the child do hard work . Doing hard work will give him an opportunity to taste the bitterness of labor. Moreover, hard work may also enable him to cherish the fruit of other's labor. Finally , children should be sent to somewhere where life is hard if possible . Human society is full of tests and trials . Flowers from a greenhouse can never withstand a storm . Therefore, children should be allowed to face the world and brave the storm . It is in difficult conditions that young people can get the most training and learn how to solve the problems in various circumstances .

【写作内容】

2. 就\童年时代需要艰难生活的磨砺\这一主题发表你的看法,该部分的词数大约为120。短文至少包括以下的内容: (1)描述你的童年生活

One possible version:

1).We know sometimes difficult conditions can really make a man, so parents should let their children eat bitter foods, do hard work and experience a hard life.

I grew up in an ordinary family, which is not so well off. I could understand the hardships my parents were bearing at that time. Therefore, I work very hard now in the hope of entering the university and change the situation of my family and me.

I think that in a certain sense, difficult situations can stimulate a person's potential and pave the way for him to success. One can be strong, brave and faithful after all these hardships he has gone through. All in all, as far as I am concerned, I think that flowers from a greenhouse can never withstand a storm and that a hard life is good for children.

2).To make the child grow strong, parents should make him eat poor food, do hard work, and experience life in bad conditions, with which a child will value the labour and be capable of facing hardship.

I lived a happy childhood. Not only did my parents love me form the bottom of heart, but also they gave me chances to increase my ability. My parents attached primary importance to the management of my pocket money, which led to the consequence that often I could only watch my friends eating candies with my empty pocket. This experience helped me wake up to the truth that my parents worked hard to earn a life, and so would I in the future.

As the saying goes, \

an important part in his development. If one is brought up in a family that is wasteful, he is likely to be lazy when he grows up. On the other hand, a child who lives a hard life in his childhood, learning that one must be independent and frugal to face challenge, is bound to be strong. On parents' part, they can teach the child to help support the family. More can be done apart from food, hard work and bad conditions.

Instead of being spoiled, children should eat bitter food to learn to be frugal, do hard work to learn to cherish, and be sent to somewhere tough to learn to be brave. 读写任务8

Which is better ,internet shopping or traditional shopping ?

This passage mainly talks about different uses of internet shopping such as buying goods . electronic books, booking holidays , renting films and so on . It also describes different attitudes to it.

My classmates have different attitudes to it. Some think that it is very convenient to shop on

line. Others believe that it is unsafe to buy goods with credit cards and it is impossible to check the quality .

As for me , I prefer traditional shopping. It is really fun to go into shops and look at the goods in person . We can choose what we really need and have a good bargain. We can talk freely with others instead of a cold machine. I often go shopping with my parents on weekends and we have a very good communication every time. Indeed, everything is available on line and we needn’t even leave our home . However ,we may be cheated and waste money. So traditional shopping is better that internet shopping.

Teenagers’ secrets should be kept to themselves and no one else ,their parents included ,has the right to stick their nose into their private life .As we know , teenagers are going through a special period of development both physically and psychologically .They are curious about and puzzled by the unexpected changes in their body and mind. What’s more ,exposed to a world of adults ,it is only too natural for them to begin imitating (模仿) adults’ behaviors in secret .Boys begin to smoke and girls begin to spend time doing their hair .Some even begin to date with a girlfriend or boyfriend without their parents’ knowledge .They are doing al this in secret because they are still unsure whether it is right to do so and afraid that ,if found out by their parent, they will get misunderstood and even punished .And in fact , in many cases ,the parents can not deal with the matter well and hurt their children’s feelings badly ,making children no longer willing to communicate with their parents .When this happens ,it hurts terribly the whole family feeling .So it seems right that teenagers should keep their secrets to themselves and their parents should allow their children that right . 【写作内容】

One possible version:

Teenagers’ Secrets Should be Shared with Their Parents

This passage mainly says that many teenagers have their own secrets but parents always want to know them ,which will probably hurt children’s feeling .As a result ,children won’t like to share their secrets with their parents.

Some people believe that parents should allow their teenage children to keep their own secrets. Teenagers are going through a special period .Wondering about and puzzled by changes

of their body and mind, afraid to get misunderstood when their parents know it, they choose to copy adults’ behavior secretly. Parents should respect the right of their children.

This idea sounds right but is actually wrong. Most of the teenagers’ secrets, if not at all, should be shared by their parents. Many of their secrets kept to themselves may do them unimaginable harm. I am speaking from my experience .Unlike many of other teenagers, I always let my parents know my secrets. They are always ready to offer me valuable advice about how to deal with my troubles and puzzles. I am happy to have such understanding parents who can share my secrets with me and help me to live a happy life in this special time.

Years ago it was very difficult to travel from one place to another. The journeys were often long, tiring and dangerous. Today the picture has changed. Science has improved transportation and communication facilities a great deal. Traveling has become safer, more enjoyable and above all, more economical.

Traveling—whether within one’s country or abroad—brings many invaluable benefits. People travel for pleasure, business or for education and knowledge. In the world of yesterday most people were only able to read about strange and fascinating places across the mountains and seas. Later, with the coming of the cinema and television, man’s curiosity about faraway places with strange sounding names was further stirred up. Today man’s curiosity can be satisfied in luxurious comfort. There are first-class ships and airplanes to take him where his dreams lie. We travel to increase our knowledge of the world in which we live. Knowledge obtained from books alone is not enough. New knowledge of different land and peoples enriches our mind and soul. Books generally do not give us a very true picture of lands beyond our shores. Some of them are even misleading.

What Does Modern Transportation Bring Us?

Science has made traveling much more convenient than before, and in turn, traveling brings us lots of benefits. We get happiness and know more about different places through the comfortable and convenient traveling.

Transportation has changed a lot during the past years. In ancient times, the fast way to travel was to ride a horse or carriage, while most people just walked. Then, people had bicycles, ships, cars and trains and now we have planes or even spaceships, which are much faster. Modern transportation helps us a lot. It offers us quicker and more comfortable traveling and brings people to closer contact. We can also get more knowledge through traveling. With the help of more economical traveling and modern media, people’s curiosity about things in other places can be satisfied. However, it also brings about negative things like lack of energy and air pollution. So nothing is really perfect, isn’t it?

Students should think now about what extracurricular (课外的) activities they'd like to participate in. Participating in extracurricular activities may help you deepen your physical, creative, social, political, and career interests by bringing you into communication with other like-minded people you didn’t previously know.

You can join groups as a way to get support from other students. A club or group can also be a great way to meet people who are different from you. Lots of youth programs bring people together with those who are different as a way to break down the barriers between people. Participating in extracurricular activities helps you in other ways, too. It looks good on college and job applications and shows admissions officers and employers you're well-rounded and responsible. Specific activities help with specific goals.

The most basic reason for joining a club or team is that it gives you something better to do than staring at the wall, wandering the hall, or sleeping all afternoon. People who are participating are less likely to pick up bad habits, like smoking or drinking.

The author (The passage) discussed the benefit of extracurricular activities including being a way to improve students’ health, widen their social circle and introduce them to new ideas and people. (30 words)

Our school offers many different kinds of after-school activities. These include sports, music and drama. I’m one of the members of drama club. I think it is very important for students to participate in extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities can improve our social life, introducing us to new people outside our class or school. In addition, they can reduce the stress and pressure we experience as the result of our studies. Also, they can bring us a lot of enjoyment. If we feel fresh and relaxed we can study better, so they will also be good for our grades. Thus, in my view, if we focus too much on any one thing, either study or after-school activities will be negatively affected. But with the right balance both can improve. (128 words) 任务型写作12

A lot of people think that teachers need to love their students, that they need to have an expert knowledge of their subjects, and that they should devote themselves completely to their jobs. All of these ideas are, of course, true to a certain degree but they are perhaps a little too simple. It is impossible for anyone to love everyone they know, and teachers deal with a great large number of students over the years. On the other hand, teachers should certainly be able to make their students feel that they are concerned. A deep knowledge of the subject is extremely important, but equally important is the ability to pass that knowledge on to the students effectively — a teacher needs to be trained in the skills of teaching. Finally, teachers have to devote a lot of time and energy to their work, of course. However, they are also models that their students must follow; so it is important that they should be well-balanced people with interests outside their school work. A teacher who only lives for work is likely to become too narrow-minded.

One possible version: Ladies and gentlemen,

It’s my honor to have the chance to speak here.

Most people think a teacher should love his students, have an expert knowledge and devote

himself to the job. The ideas are partly true.

In my opinion, a good teacher should love his students. However, it’s impossible for a teacher to love his every student. Besides, for a teacher, the ability to pass the knowledge on to his students is more important than his expert knowledge. A good teacher should be ready to teach the students how to learn rather than what to learn. Moreover, not only should he work hard, but also he should be a well-balanced person.

My English teacher, Miss Wang always helps us out and is concerned about us. And also, he remains young psychologically and tries hard to understand his students. She often stays with us and shares with us her experiences. She amuses us by telling jokes in class at times, which makes us learn English in a relaxed phenomenon. In addition, She keeps upgrading her knowledge and takes every chance to study.

All in all, she is a worthy teacher. I like her very much. That’s all. Thank you.

According to Shenzhen Daily, the city’s vehicle population has reached over 1 million and 80 percent of the vehicles are private cars.

Nowadays more and more families own private cars. Private cars, as the product of modern civilization, have been playing a vital role in people's daily activities. Firstly, private cars are a convenient means of transportation. You can go wherever you like. Secondly, there is no doubt that private cars will have a great impact on the economic growth. The rapid car industry growth will contribute much to keeping the country's economy growing at a higher rate in the near futrue.

But every coin has two sides. The development of the private cars will bring about a series of problems. For example, the polluted air given off by cars will do great harm to our health, too many private cars will lead to traffic jams and a great deal of energy will be wasted and so on.That is why many people suggest we should go cycling in the city instead.

However, I think that the advantages of owning a car outweigh the disadvantages. Therefore, it seems to me that China should increase its output of automobiles and enlarge the private car market. We should take advantages of private cars and make them serve us better. Meantime ,we hope that satisfactory solutions to these negative problems will be found soon. [写作内容]

1.可以使用实例或分项论述的方法支持你的论点,也可以参照阅读材料的内容,但不得直接引用原文中的句子; 2.标题自定。

One possible version:

Travel by Bike in the City

In this passage, the writer explains the advantages and disadvantages of owning private cars in the city. And he agrees to enlarge the private car market and make better use of them. But I think bikes should be the most popular form of transportation in our city.

First, a bike is much cheaper than a car, most consumers can afford it, and if there is something wrong with a bike, people can have it fixed easily. Second, bikes need much less parking space than cars. The third reason is that it can save energy for our country. Moreover, it brings no pollution to the air, so it helps to clean the atmosphere.

Therefore, the best form of transportation is travelling by bike ,which is a healthy, “green” and economical way. But with the development of our economy, the day when we use cars as the most popular form of transportation is sure to come.

阅读下面短文,然后按要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Why are so many people so afraid of failure? It is simply because no one tells us how to fail so that failure becomes an experience that will lead to growth. We forget that failure is part of being human and that every person has the right to fail.

Most parents work hard at either preventing failure or protecting their children from the knowledge that they have failed. One way is to lower standards. A mother describes her child’s carelessly-made table as “perfect” even though it doesn’t stand still. Another way is to blame something else. If John fails science, it is because his teacher is unfair or stupid.

Success, which encourages repetition of old behavior, is not nearly as good a teacher as failure. Even a failure that seems definitive(决定性的) can cause fresh thinking or a change of direction. After 12 years of studying ballet, a friend of mine applied to a professional company. She was turned down. “Would further training help?” she asked. The ballet master shook his head. “You will never be a dancer,” he said. “You haven’t got the body for it.”

In such cases, the way to use failure is to take stock bravely, asking, “What have I left? What else can I do?” My friend put away her shoes and moved into a dance treatment center, a field where she’s both able and useful. 〔写作内容〕

It’s fine to fail

Failure is something people always try to avoid, without realizing that by facing it bravely, it’ll turn out to be great value in helping their growth.

It’s natural and normal that parents stop their children from experiencing failure. Anyway, it’s been widely accepted that, by means of appreciation and encouragement, children get inspired and tend to learn more. However, this idea ignores an actual fact that life consists of both success and failure. That’s why I believe that too much protection from failure may end up with more pain – it creates an illusive, or fake, world to kids, not a true one.

The ballet girl gives us a good example of how to face her big failure, from which we see clearly what life is really like: the great amount of time that you’ve devoted to your dream may turn out to be something wrong. The only choice you can make is to smile to it, think of what you can do with it, and decide to still go further or change your way of life. If you face it bravely enough, the failure will lead to “fresh thinking”, and possibly your life will turn on a new page.

Can success bring the same good to us? No. Failure is painful, but it makes us learn more about life. There’s no escape, and there’s no need to escape!

读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Middle and high school days are both fun and busy. Students spend their days in class, listening to the interesting and sometimes boring words of the teacher. They spend the short breaks running, playing, and shouting happily before going back to the classroom again. But how should students spend their free time outside school?

In Western countries, it is common for students to have a part-time job after school and at weekends. Students can earn their own money and learn more about the “real world”. They enjoy the extra independence and money, and parents enjoy the quiet house. However, it seems that, in China, parents worry so much about their children’ studies that they would prefer to see their children spending most of their free time studying and preparing for all those exams.

It is natural for parents to feel that way, but I believe the answer lies in balance. Sometimes, Western school children work long hours after school to make money, and so they become too tired to listen in class or have no time for homework. But Chinese students spend so much time on their studies that all else becomes less important until they want that new MP4 player.

So, find a good and healthy balance! If you have a part-time job, you’ll be happy, and your parents will also be happy because you’re spending your hard-earned money and not theirs! [写作内容]

A possible version of the writing task:

There is a great difference between the way high school students spend their free time, and the writer hopes to find a balance between studying and having fun.

What worries the writer is just what we students are confused about: can our “spare time” actually mean something “spare”?

Take me for example. Every day I have just 1 hour in the afternoon to do some sports. At weekends, I usually have lots of homework assigned by teachers to finish. Even if I want to do something else, I will often be stopped by my parents. Like many other parents, they just want me to study all the time until I am admitted to a famous university. As a result, I can’t control my “spare time” on my own! Looking around at my friends, I find I’m not alone in such a situation. What a boring life for us students!

I just don’t agree with my parents about their way of controlling my spare time. Yes, for us students, studying is the most important thing to do. But we can’t be separated from the outside world. Studying all the time, I’m afraid what we are learning can’t match the real world. I don’t want to depress my parents, of course; but I do think that we need to find a way to settle this problem. 读写任务16

As a boy who lives in modern times, I still clearly remember the happiness of my childhood. What a good time we had! We didn’t need to study all the time and our task was to play. We had no worries. Unluckily, we had to face the reality following time’s passing. We began to gradually feel this invisible pressure coming upon us. We had less spare time for playing and had to give more of our time for homework. Our stress was coming! We get up before sunrise and return after sunset. We work and study like an adult, even harder. What we do is in order to get an excellent mark. Oh, growing up is extremely boring. China news, Shanghai, October 8--- According to a random survey covering 3,800 elementary and secondary school students in Shanghai, the two groups of students have very different career outlooks. Most pupils dream of starting their own business after graduation, while high school students long for freelancing.

“It’s so cool to be your own boss, and you can decide when to start a day’s work,” said Jay (not his real name), a fifth grade pupil. The hottest topic between him and his classmates is usually about their future careers, and many of them have already had a thorough plan for the future. Jay says that he will start his business with his friends in a few years after graduating from college, when he will have already accumulated some money.

High school students’ choices tend to be more reasonable. Some of them say they will take an ordinary full-time job, while many of them also appreciate the freedom of freelancing: however, most of them will think twice before starting their own businesses, as it is extremely difficult to start a career from scratch.

With it, I can live more comfortably and provide my child with a better environment. If I have enough money, I can also help the poor. Wouldn’t it be wonderful? More importantly, doctors are angels to the patients, who can help the sick get rid of pain and suffering or even give a second life to the dying. I can’t imagine how great I will feel when seeing a patient recover from the illness and live happily again because of my help.

I started thinking about this issue at my brother-in-law's 60th birthday party last Saturday. Before we ate the main meal we sat around a table that was loaded with large bowls of snack items - chocolate-covered peanuts, cherries(樱桃), and a few other things. The eater had to reach into the bowl and grab a handful of snacks and then convey them to the mouth with the other hand. A lot of people were strangers to me and I observed a cat being carried around, a dog being petted, and a number of noses being blown, between eating handfuls of snacks. Ugh!

I started thinking about Chinese table manners. My wife and I will share things from the same plate or cup but we always put serving spoons out with the dishes on the table. We don't frequently use them, though. In my family we use our personal chopsticks to take food from the serving dishes. But we are careful and only touch the food we will eat ourselves.

I have heard of some people who use two sets of chopsticks, one for eating, and one for serving. I have also seen some people who invert their chopsticks, that is, to serve other people with the other ends that haven't touched their lips. 【写作内容】

Table Manners and Hygiene

This passage describes the author’s experience of witnessing people’s unhealthy table manners at a birthday party, which gave rise to his opinion on the promotion of health and hygiene at dinner.

In terms of table manners and hygiene, people’s habits vary from person to person. Some of them have the preference of stirring the food, hunting for what seems to be their favourite bits, with the aid of their own chopsticks. To show hospitality, some hosts or hostesses frequently feed food into the guest’s dish, ignoring the serving chopsticks or spoons. Worse of all, some diners never hesitate to dig or blow their nose at table, making disgusting noise.

Personally, I am not quite in favour of the above manners, which is very likely to transfer / spread diseases. I absolutely agree with the author that communal or serving chopsticks and spoons are recommended to avoid the transference of any diseases while dining. There is no denying that dining together is the time for intimateness or close relationship between the relevant members or friends. However, the consideration of health and hygiene is significant as well

To conclude, priority should be given to healthy and hygienic manners at table so as to create a pleasant and harmonious dining atmosphere.

It was time for a basketball match, my favorite sport. I was on the team which won the game. I got warm congratulations from my classmates. However, I felt pain in both my feet. My old sports shoes were worn out. I am now in need of a new pair of sports shoes. I have forgotten how many times I have stopped to admire the expensive Nike shoes on the window in Beijing Road.

Two days later, I brought my parents before the window. Mother noticed my eyes fixed on the brand-new Nike and slowly reached into her pocket. Clearly the price was higher than she could offer. She moved her eyes towards my father, who is newly out of job, for his advice. Father dug his fingers into his pockets. “Just enough for a Nike, but we need to save some money for future better use…”

Admiration Comes from Ability Instead of New Shoes

This text is about a student who wants to buy a pair of new shoes. His shoes were worn out and he took his parents to buy a new pair. But hey found the shoes too expensive for them.

Words could not express my painful feelings at the moment. I turned my eyes to my mother for help, who pretended not to see me. I wanted to insist on my request when I suddenly glanced at another pair of home-made shoes. It was not as fashionable as Nike, but much cheaper. Now I had a decision.

“Well, I would like to take this home-made pair. It is much cheaper.” “Why? Didn’t you want a new Nike just now?”

“They will be as good as a new Nike on my feet. I used to love Nike because many of my friends are wearing it. In fact I don’t’ have to keep up with the Joneses.” A hidden smile climbed on parents’ faces.

“I should be judged by how well I study instead of what shoes I wear. Beauty is but skin deep, isn’t it?” I had persuaded myself I was right. Now I saw the sweetest smile on their faces.

Having friends may well keep you healthier and help you deal with stress better. Some studies show that people with close friends have a greater ability to fight disease than people who are alone.

Make friendship a priority. Find the time to be with friends even if it means letting the lawn go unmowed or the dishes unwashed for a while. When you can’t get together, use the phone to keep in touch.

Open up to close friends. Don’t be afraid to express your inner fears and disappointments. Listen

to your friends when they have problems, but offer advice only when it’s wanted. Help reaffirm friends’ self-esteem when they are shaken by a job loss, or other difficulties.

Have different friends for different activities, such as going to the movies, singing in a choir, and participating in a bowling league.

Don’t’ wait for a friend to ask a favor. When a friend has the flu, offer to go to the store or drive the children to their after-school activities. Never take a friendship for granted. Like a good marriage, friendship needs nurturing and patience. Become a joiner. Find a group that matches your interests.

True Friends Make My Life Colourful

Friends are very important in our life, especially the friends with the same interests. So we must cherish our good friends. If you don’t have such kind of friends, try to make some.

There is no doubt that friends are very important for us. If you don’t have a true friend to share your happiness or sorrow, that means your life is meaningless. Friends can make you happier when you are happy, and feel better when you are sad.

I had two good friends when I was in middle school. Though we are not in the same school now, we are still good friends. We don’t need to see each other too often, but we know what we are thinking. Whenever I am in trouble, I know my friends will be here. This kind of feeling encourages me when I meet difficulties. It is my friends that make my life colourful.

Jacob loves books. His mom knows this because when she sits down to read to him every night, he waves his arms excitedly.

When she is done reading, his mom usually lets him hold the sturdy board book, which he promptly sticks into his mouth.

Jacob is only 6 months old, but he is already well on his way to becoming a reader.

Very young babies may not know what the images in a book mean, but they are still able to focus

on them, especially on black and white patterns. A newborn looking at a book is taking the first step toward picture recognition, which is an important skill for reading.

You may wonder what the benefits of reading to your baby are. Clearly he or she can’t understand what you are doing or why. But would you wait until your child could understand what you were saying before you started speaking to him or her? No. And you wouldn’t bypass lullabies until your baby could carry a tune or wait until he or she could shake a rattle before you offered any toys.

At birth, a baby’s brain can do a lot, especially stuff to keep the body running properly, but it isn’t fully developed. The more the senses are stimulated, the more quickly the rest of a baby’s brain will develop. So reading aloud to your baby is a wonderful shared activity you can continue for years to come, and it’s an important form of stimulation. [写作内容]

The article takes a 6-month baby for example to show that reading is good for babies in developing both their brain and their interest although they may not know the real meaning. My mother used to read to me when I was a baby, and that developed my love for reading. When I could read by myself, my father often took me to bookstores and left me there reading for free! On every birthday, the gifts my parents give me are all books. It is my parents who let me know the benefits of reading. Reading is the first thing I will do when I have spare time.

While the tourists oppose it. They think Peking University belongs to the whole country. Tourists should be able to enter the university freely.

I visited some Britain universities, like Oxford and Cambridge University. They are open to the tourists from around the world.

As for the move of Peking University, I don’t support it. For one thing, Peking University is not only for its current students but also for all Chinese people. 参考范文:

Today I read a story about a religious master and a painter who change themselves when they face something unchangeable and then achieve an eventual change of the world around them. The stories remind me of my cousin who used to complain about English learning. He though it unnecessary to learn a foreign language and ignored it at all. As a result, he fell behind the others in his class and even failed in the exam. After realizing that it was not only a main subject but also the most widely spoken language in the world, he developed a good attitude. Thanks to his English teacher, he was well involved in English classes. He practiced listening and speaking English after class. What’s more, he kept an English diary, which helped him think in English. A year later, he became one of the ten top students in his class. Believe it or not, he was even rewarded in an English contest in his school.

As far as I’m concerned, change your attitude when you find the environment unchangeable. Only in this way can you achieve an eventual change of the world around you.

One morning, a friend of mine set the breakfast table beside a huge window, which overlooked the Tred Avon River. Suddenly she leaned forward and cried out, “ There is a goose out there!” We saw the figure of a large Canada goose, very still, its wings folded tight to its sides and its feet frozen to the ice.

Then in the sky, she saw a line of swans. They flew from the top of the sky downward and at last landed on the ice. My friend was on her feet, with one unbelieving hand against her mouth. As the swans surrounded the frozen goose, she feared that the poor goose might be pecked out by those great swan bills.

Unexpectedly, those bills began to work on the ice. The long necks were lifted and curved down (弯下) again and again. They went on for a long time. At last, the goose was free and standing on the ice. And the swans stood nearby watching. Then, as if the goose was crying, “I cannot fly”, four of the swans came down around it. Their powerful bills chipped off the ice stuck in its feathers. Slowly, the goose spread its wings as far as they would go. Seeing the goose could freely move its wings, the swans flew slowly into the sky.

This is a true story. Every time I think of it, I can’t help asking, “If so for birds, why not for man?”

The passage reminds us to help those who are in trouble and shows us helping others is a good virtue, which one should treasure.

Life is not all roses. No one knows when he or she will be in trouble. The story above reminds me of my personal experience.

There was a time when I performed badly in my maths. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I still failed. Upset and disappointed, I fell ill and had to be in hospital for a couple of days. Hearing what had happened to me, Lily, my monitor, came to hospital , helping me with my schoolwork. It was with her aid that I recovered soon and improved myself in maths rapidly. I felt really grateful for what she had done.

The bundle(婴儿包)was placed in her arms and when she moved the fold of cloth to look upon his tiny face, she gasped-the baby has been born without ears. Time, however, proved that the baby’s hearing was perfect except his appearance.

One day when he rushed home from school and threw himself into his mother’s arms, he cried out bitterly, “A boy, a big boy… called me a f-…freak.” She sighed, knowing that his life was to be endless of heartbreaks.

He grew up, handsome for his misfortune. A favorite with his fellow students, he might have been class president, but for that. He developed a gift for literature and music.

The boy’s father had a talk with the family doctor. Could nothing be done? “I believe we could graft(移植)on a pair of outer ears, if they could be donated(捐献),”the doctor decided. So the search began for a person who would make such a sacrifice a young man. Two years went by. Then, “You’re going to the hospital, son. Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need. But it’s a secret,” said the father.

The operation was a brilliant success. His talents blossomed (开花)into genius. School and college became a series of successes. Later he married and entered the diplomatic(外交)service. “But I must know!” he urged his father. “Who gave so much for me? I could never do enough for him.”

“I do not believer you could,” said the father, “but the agreement was that you are not to know….not yet.” The years kept the secret, but the day did come…. one of the darkest days that ever pass through a son. He stood with his father over his mother’s casket(棺材).Slowly and tenderly, the father stretched forth a hand and raised the thick, reddish-brown hair to let out the secret.

Help is Always Unselfish

An selfish mother donated her ears to her imperfect son without telling him about it. At last, the son got the secret from his father after his mother died.

Help is always unselfish. The mother donated her ears to her son, showing her greatest love to

her child. From these, we can know how difficult it is for parents to raise their children.

In the daily life, we always get kind help from our teachers, classmates and friends. And their kind help is always unselfish. When I was in Senior Middle School, I lived in the school. Every time I was ill, my teachers and classmates gave me kind help, taking good care of me all the time. In today’s society, I was affected by some bad things, which made me think that there was no kindness in the world. It was my friends who did everything to help me out.

From these experiences, I have realized that helping others is necessary, and true love does exist in our daily life. Since then, I have changed myself a lot, and I also give hands to others when they are in need of help.

Safety Ought to Be Paid More Attention to

Today, I received a reader’s letter about a food poisoning incident, and with others’ help, the victims were safe. The responsible reader also referred to the importance of food safety and the necessity of actions to protect people’s life.

I was shocked at the food poisoning incident. Personally speaking, the government should pay more attention to the food safety and making some necessary laws. As some illegal businessmen are only interested in making profits in the race to become rich quickly, they seldom care about the necessary safety measures and hygiene or care what happens to consumers. They must be charged by law. Only in this way will the whole society have a better and harmonious life. Here, I also wish all the victims recover soon. 读写任务27 阅读下列短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。 In order to learn English well, it is necessary for us to overcome the fear of making mistakes. If the primary goal of language use is communication, then mistakes are secondary consideration that may be dealt with gradually when we increasingly realize those mistakes. As language learners, we may observe how native speakers express themselves and how native expressions differ from the way we might say them. For example, a Spanish speaker who has been saying “I do it “ to express willingness to do something in the immediate future, could, by interacting with native speakers of English, observe that native speakers actually say “I’ll do it”. But if we are not willing to interact in the first place, we will lose this opportunity of learning by trial and error. 写作内容 1、 以约30个词概括短文的内容 2、 以约120个词表达如何面对英语学习中所出的错误,并包括如下要点: 1) 你在英语学习中是否担心出错误 2) 你常在哪些方面出错误 3) 以你自己的经历说明你是如何面对你英语学习中的错误的 写作要求 1、 作文中可使用自己的亲身经历或虚构的故事,也可以参照阅读材料的内容但不得直接引用原文中的句子 2、 信中不能出现真实姓名和学校名称 Possible version

The first goal of learning a language is to communicate in it, so we needn’t be afraid of making mistakes. When we realize that we are making mistakes, we can’t ignore them. I started to learn English six years ago. In the beginning I didn’t dare to speak it because I was worried that others would laugh at me if I made mistakes. Luckily for me, my English teacher was an American. She always encouraged me to be brave enough, and he asked me not to care about what others would say about my mistakes. Slowly I tried to speak a little, most of the time broken English. Whenever I had chance to be with my English teacher, I kept talking in English. Sometimes, I found my English was different from my English teacher’s. I carefully observed the language my teacher spoke. Gradually, I made good progress in English speaking. It is natural that everybody may have fear when they begin to learn a new language. But the most important is to overcome it. Without fear, we can do everything well.

Feng Jicai, born in Tianjin in 1942, is a highly accomplished writer, known for his depictions of intellectuals' lives and the historical stories of Tianjin, where he has been living for more than 40 years. In recent years, while serving as executive chairman of the China Federation of Literary and

Art Circles, and chairman of the Tianjin Writers Association, Feng has dedicated most of his time and energy to the preservation of China’s ethnic and folk culture, trying to save the country's vanishing cultural memories.

Feng frequently published articles in newspapers, explaining his aims and beliefs to the local residents. He wrote, “Cultural relics are dead, but culture is living in the historical buildings. A city without culture is a city without root.”

In December 1999, Guyi Street, one of the oldest streets in Tianjin, was in the process of being demolished. On this street, built during the Yuan Dynasty, there were many famous shops, such as Qianxiangyi, Ruifuxiang, Shanxi Guild House, and the General Chamber of Commerce of Tianjin. Again, Feng called for volunteers to record the street on videotapes, and collect oral history from local residents. In February 2000, a set of postcards was published with Guyi Street as the theme, attracting long lines of purchasers. With Feng’s efforts, the destruction plan for the street was finally changed, saving some of the buildings there.

Acting on Feng’s proposal, a nationwide heritage rescue program launched a general survey of China's folk cultures in 2003, aiming to catalog village-level art, songs, legends, dress and folk customs before they die off with their practitioners. A wide range of methods were adopted, including text, audio and video recording as well as photography.

Two severe problems in the rescue program were the lack of cultural workers and funds. Feng sold his own paintings twice to raise funds for the foundation to support the investigation of fine arts folk legacies in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. Besides, he also calls for help from NGOs (非政府组织,非营利性组织) everywhere.

Feng was hired as a consultant of the State Council in 2008 for his outstanding contributions to the work of protecting cultural relics.

Protection of cultural relics The author gives an introduction to Feng Jicai who makes outstanding contributions to the work of protecting cultural relics. With his efforts, more and more people become concerned about protecting cultural relics.

Cultural relics represent historic culture. They tell people what happened in the past and they are

the roots of a city or a place. As far as I know, every city is trying to protect its cultural relics. For example, the government makes policies to regulate people’s behavior at the relics and call for people to take actions to save the cultural relics. However, some people have no such awareness or even do harm to the relics. When I was travelling, I could see some cuttings or odd drawings on the historic places. It’s really wicked to do so. I admire what Feng Jicai has done. I learn the importance of protecting cultural relics from him. I think everyone of us should try to do something for the protection of cultural relics. I think the government and schools should teach people more about the protection of cultural relics and the people should mind their behavior when travelling. 读写任务30

Some people express anger openly in a calm, reasonable way. Others burst with anger, losing control of themselves. But still other people control their anger. They cannot or will not express it. Recently some doctors have found that people who express anger too often and violently become, in fact, more and not less angry. This can cause medical problems. Some doctors say that both controlling and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger strongly may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who deep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. Doctors say anger can lead to serious diseases like heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and even cancer. Both controlling anger and express anger strongly can be harmful to your health. As we know, getting angry not only does harm to one’s health but also has a bad effect on the relationship between people. Sometimes expressing anger too strongly can lead to severe results. However, in many cases, anger may be avoided if we can understand each other better. For instance, someone may have done something about which you are very angry, but in fact he/she meant no harm. So it is quite unnecessary for you to get angry. If someone does do some wrong, try to put yourself in his/her position and understand him/her. If you find it really necessary to express to anger, try to do it in a calm, reasonable way. Remember losing your temper does good to neither you nor the other person.

Be Grateful for Friends

It is a celebrating day. I got in touch with Michael whom I have been losing contact for one year. It is really magic. I was searching online aimlessly yesterday when an idea struck me suddenly: since Ben can find out my secret by keying in my name in the search engines, why can’t I do so, either?

I intended to find out something about En in revenge in the first place, but soon extend my name list to a wider category. It was then that I recalled Michael suddenly.

We have lost contact since our last correspondence in my senior 3. He mentioned to me in his last lettee3r that he was preparing for going to UK to further his education. I, shamefully, was too busy to reply his mail then. When I was recommended to ZJU and won the final freedom, I thought he had already been in UK so I had no idea where to write him.

I used to think that we would never meet again. However, when I browsed the entries about him,I found out excitedly that he is still in PRC.

Without a moment hesitation, I ran upstairs to my dorm and found out my old address book. Thank goodness, his home number was still there.

After 3 times calling with no answer replies, I eventually got him on the phone. He was more surprised than I could imagine that when I asked for his home number he was too nervous to remember it.

Life is enjoyable in moments such like this . Old friends meet again surprisingly, on a road of their own ways to their dreams. They look at the face of each other, and recognize the old pal. It is such moment that makes me feel grateful to life: whenever I set off for a new destination, I see I have friends in the same direction, with whom I won’t feel alone any more. [写作内容]

One of the biggest sources of out city pollution comes from the lunch boxes people throw away after finishing their meals. Each day a large number of people will buy their lunch from the cafeteria. It is always served in a soft white box and at the end of lunchtime we have created a “sea of white” empty boxes. One possible version:

In this passage, the author takes lunch boxes as an example to illustrate that many people have got into the bad habit of littering which leads to the deterioration of our living environment. Therefore the author calls on everybody to get rid of littering. Obviously, people seem to have got accustomed to finding garbage thrown in the streets, on squares and beside empty dustbins. In my opinion, the reasons for the bad habit of garbage littering lie in two aspects. On one hand, many people are not aware of their misbehaviors and some people even take it as only a “small” thing that others should not make a fuss over. On the other hand, due to the inadequate facilities of garbage collection, people throw away their refuse everywhere at will. In view of the severity of the issue, we should adopt immediate measures to deal with it. First of all, the government should play a leading role. It ought to bring in strong anti-littering laws, backed by heavy penalties and effective enforcement. Also, officials should make good use of mass media to promote the public’s awareness of environmental protection, making sure that everyone will become a conscious environment protector. Finally, it is essential for schools to attach importance to environmental education, so that every child will become environmentally friendly and get rid of the littering habit. In conclusion, people’s littering habit is turning our communities into a rubbish holder. It is high time that we took joint effort to solve the rubbish problem. Otherwise, we will live with rubbish in the future.

While I was standing in line at the cash register(收款台), I said hello to an older couple who were also paying for gas.

I took off, but had gone only a few miles when black smoke poured from the back of my car. I stopped and wondered what I should do. A car pulled up behind me. It was the couple I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they would take me to my friend's. We chatted on the way into the city, and when I got out of the car, the husband gave me his business card.

I wrote him and his wife a thank-you note for helping me. Soon afterward, I received a Christmas present from them. Their note that came with it said that helping me had made their holidays meaningful.

Years later, I drove to a meeting in a nearby town in the morning. In late afternoon I returned to my car and found that I'd left the lights on all day, and the battery(电池)was dead. One Possible Version:

In this passage, the writer mainly tells us two of his experiences of being helped by strangers. After he wrote them thank-you notes, he realized that saying “thank you” to others meant so much.

I have a similar experience. Once when I was about to go home after school, it was raining so heavily that I had to wait for the rain to stop. But after half an hour it was still raining. Seeing this, the guard at the gate offered to lend me his umbrella. I accepted at once. Thanks to his help, I got home on time without getting wet. The next morning, when I returned the umbrella to the guard, I said thank you to him and left him a note expressing my gratitude sincerely. To my surprise, he said no one had ever written him to say thank you, and it meant a lot to him.

Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order to improve his way of life. With the tools of technology he has altered(改变)many physical features of the earth. He has transformed(完全改变) woodlands and prairies(大草原) into farms and made lakes and reservoirs out of rivers for irrigation purposes or hydroelectric power. Man has also changed the face of the earth by draining marshes (排干沼泽) and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways.

However, man's changes to the physical environment have not always had beneficial results. Today, pollution of the air and water is an increasing danger to the health of the planet. Each day thousands of tons of gases come out of the exhausts of motor vehicles. Smoke from factories pollutes the air of industrialized areas and the surrounding areas of the countryside. The pollution of water is equally harmful. The whole ecological balance of the sea is being changed and industrial wastes have already made many rivers lifeless.

Now environmental protection is more pressing than ever before. As we know, massive destruction of environment has brought about negative effects and even poses a great threat to man's existence. Indifference to these problems will mean committing suicide. Therefore, effective measures should be taken and laws passed to conserve environment. Otherwise, man is certain to suffer from the serious consequences caused by this lack of care for his living surroundings.

Supposed answer:

Although human has improved his living standard by altering the features of the earth, which has brought many benefits as well as harms to the environment. As a result, the environmental protection is more pressing than ever before.

The pollution to the earth are made up of at least seven items, such as paper, plastic, glass, clothes and food waste. Some of them can be reduced by reducing the amount of it or by giving them to some other people who need them. Some of them can be changed to be other things which can be used for another purpose.

Students in our school can also take some actions to reduce the pollution against the earth. We may try to save some paper by writing on both sides of the paper and write smaller words. We may try to use things to be reused instead of things to be used only once. In order not to increase food waste, we should get our meal according to how much we can have. For clothes which are worn out, we should get them mended and keep wearing them so that we can save our money as well as reduce the resource of waste and pollution.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Internet

Fifteen years ago, the Internet was unheard of by most people. Today, the Internet is one of the most powerful tools throughout the world. The Internet is a collection of various services and resources.

Many fear the Internet because of its disadvantage. They claim (主张) not to use the Internet because they are simply not interested or are afraid of the possible consequences (后果). Children using the Internet has become a big concern. When children talk to others online, they do not realize they could actually be talking to a person who may harm them later. There are many examples that children have been convinced (说服) to meet people they have talked with online.

The most common thing the Internet is used for is research. Children and students are among the top ones who use the Internet for research. Today, it is almost required that students use the Internet for research. Another popular thing to do on the Internet is to check out the news. Almost all-local news can be got through the Internet.

One possible Version:

As everyone knows, People can get much information through the Internet. Meanwhile, people are also clearly aware of its disadvantages, but some children don’t realize they sometimes make friends with bad people online.

In my opinion, people can use the Internet to make friends, download useful materials and go shopping online. It’s really very helpful. However, there are also many disadvantages about the Internet. If you can’t use it correctly, it may be harmful to you. In junior middle school, I was once crazy about playing online games and I couldn’t control myself. As a result, my study results were getting from bad to worse. Besides, if you believe whatever your friends say online, you will be cheated by them some day, I think.

As a student, we should spend more our time on studying and less time on the Internet. Of course, if we can control our time of surfing the Internet, we surely can use it after school.

Color “colors” our lives. We value color so much that we have tried to make our lives more colorful by coloring our clothes, our homes and even our faces. Today, we have come to realize that color can not only reflect one’s personality but also our emotions, our actions and how we

respond to various people, things and ideas. Much has been studied and written about color and its impact on our daily lives. What color do you like? Yellow, orange or red? If you do you must be an optimist, a leader, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. Do you prefer grey or blue? Then, you are probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You end to be a pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us --- the meaning of color preference and the effects colors have on human beings. They tell us we don’t choose our favorite colors as we grow up. We are born with our preference. If you happen to love brown, you did so as soon as you opened your eyes. Colors do influence our mood, without a doubt. For example, black is depressing while light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. It is established that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machine are painted orange rather than black or grey.

According to the passage, colors play an important role in our life. They reflect our personality and emotions and different colors have different influences on human beings.

Among all the colors, I like green and white best because green is the color of nature, health, and life while white symbolizes purity, cleanliness, and kindness.

In our daily life, we can see that colors are used in every field. During the Olympic Games, every athlete wears his team clothes whose colors are similar to his country. That is what colors bring to us --- the symbol of our nation. When seeing the red color on our Chinese Olympic team clothes, we will think of our national flag, our motherland and our identity. The 1.3 billion people in our country are then connected together by the red color.

Due to their effects, colors can also influence our study. To arouse our spirits, we can use some bright and light colors on some things that we will see, such as memos on the desks, note books and book covers. Moreover, we can use labels of different colors to sort out reference materials of different subjects. And we can keep a small green plant on our desk to help relax our eyes and minds.

in the first quarter, 49.2 percent of the 20,000 respondents said prices had become intolerable. While 47.5 percent of the respondents felt prices were rather high but still tolerable. Mr. Dou Lanqing, one respondent, said, “The goods in supermarket are apparently more expensive than before. In the meanwhile, I have to pay a bigger bill if my family go out for dinner now.”

The report also found that many families began to take different measures to reduce the stress from the increasing prices. It shows that 35.4 percent of those surveyed generally put their money into banks, and that 27.6 percent tended to invest in stocks and mutual funds, down 8.2 percentage points quarter-on-quarter. Besides, most people prefer to work out a family budget. Mr. Dou said, “With a reasonable budget, I can save more than 20% of my money every month, which used to be spent on unnecessary things. One Possible Version: Dear boys and girls,

It’s my great honor to make a speech here. Recently, the People’s Bank of China conducted a quarterly survey on prices in 50 cities. Nearly half of the respondents said they couldn’t tolerate the increasing prices, while some others considered it OK although they acknowledged the truth. As a result, many families began to seek various ways to save money.

The survey does draw my attention to the rapidly increasing prices in my daily life. Take food as an example, the prices of pork, beef, fish, chicken, as well as various vegetables, have risen at least 20%. It seems that money is flowing out of our pockets more quickly, but silently.

Although we middle school students feel less stress than our parents do, we should also have a

proper budget for our pocket money. For example, we can make the most of each exercise book and reuse some waste paper. Or we can also try to cut down our expenses on unnecessary magazines, CDs and so on. In a word, we can save money in many aspects in our daily life.

All in all, saving money is a great Chinese virtue and it is especially needed in this period. Thank you!

Carl Walter was my piano teacher. During one of my lessons he asked how much practice I was doing. I said three or four hours a day.

“Do you practice in long stretches, an hour at a time?” “I try to.”

“Well, do not,” he exclaimed.” When you grow up, time won’t come in long stretches. Practice in minutes, whenever you can find them five or ten before school, after lunch, between chores. Spread the practice through the day, and piano-playing will become a part of your life.”

Years later when I was teaching at Columbia, I wanted to write, but recitations, theme-reading,and meetings filled my days and evenings. For two years I got practically nothing down on paper, and my excuse was that I had no time. Then I recalled what my piano teacher said to me.

During the next week I conducted an experiment. Whenever I had five minutes unoccupied, I sat down and wrote a hundred words or so. To my astonishment, at the end of the week I had written quite a lot. Later on I wrote novels by the same piecemeal method. Though my teaching schedule had become heavier than ever, every day there were idle moments which could be caught and put to use. I even took up piano-playing again, finding that the small interval of the day provided enough time for both writing and piano practice. 【写作内容】

Today I read a very good essay. It is about how the author realized her dream as a writer even though she was a busy fulltime teacher. She managed it by making good use of every idle minute. After reading it, I was shocked and at the same time I felt sorry for myself. I am a middle school student. I have always been complaining about the lack of time: there is not enough time for me to memorize so many English words so I take it for granted that I should be poor in English; I don’t have the time to help with the housework; I seldom have any time for sports…I’ve come to understand where my problem is. From now on, I will learn to manage well my time. First I will make good plans and preparations beforehand so that I can concentrate on my task almost instantly when the time comes. In this way, I am sure I will have enough time for my study, sports, let alone helping with the housework. Remember: make every minute count.

Reading exercises a great influence on a person. If pictures, still or moving, accompany the reading, the memory will keep half the material for a long time.

Don’t believe those who say that bad reading cannot hurt a person. How do they know what will hurt other? Wouldn’t you rather believe the experience of the ages that says, “A man is what he has read” and “Our reading and studies carry over into our lives”?

Let’s get back to the beneficial effects of thinking while reading. It helps us to enlarge our minds. We understand more about the universe, its people and many of its wonders. We learn to think and observe in new ways. We certainly do get a feeling for the language we are reading. All good writers in any language have been readers who read critically and creatively and continuously. Finally, reading will and must broaden my sympathies, expand my love for others and set it in action. How can a person who has a bit of kindness in his heart read about all the miseries and tragedies that people and nations have and not want to do and actually do what he can to relieve those people in every way he can and as much as he can? The Significance and Purpose of Reading

The passage mainly tells us reading can influence a person both positively and negatively. It can enlarge our minds, improve our thinking and expand our love and sympathies which in turn facilitate our actions, but bad reading also hurts.

As far as I’m concerned, reading plays a very important role in life. It provides a source of satisfaction and pleasure, but also serves as a means to seek information and to acquire, develop and apply knowledge. People read to develop thinking skills, to enhance language proficiency and to broaden life experience, too.

For example, people advocate learning English through reading English novels. This method did not work miracle for me until one day when I was engaged in the story, I got the same enjoyment as I read Chinese novels. Then I realized that I shouldn’t let the pressure of learning ruin my enjoyment of reading. English is not and will never be the end by itself. The world through it is more fantastic and pleasant. This is what I have got from reading.

In some public toilets in Australia, signs have been put up in Chinese to remind Chinese visitors to wash out the toilet after use. In many scenic spots in foreign countries, similar posters ask Chinese people to speak in softer tones.

In China, there are many rude bus passengers who never wait in line for a bus and push hard onto it the moment the bus stops. There are also witnesses to accidents who fail to lend a hand to others. In Beijing, the residents’ impolite, sometimes rude manners are often noted by visitors from all over the world.

When talking about these phenomena, it is a shame for all of us Chinese people.

“ The success of the 2008 Olympic Games depends very much on showing good manners as on the quality of facilities and players’ performances, ” China’s delegate to the International

Olympic Committee said. “ The fact that some people pay little attention to their manners stands in our way of holding the 2008 Olympic Games successfully.” Yes, showing our culture and our country’s economic power through this event is important , but good manners should be put at the top of our agenda(议程). Do Be Polite for ourselves, and for our Country

The passage tells us a phenomenon that many foreign countries have put up signs in Chinese to remind Chinese visitors to behave in good manners. What’s more, the author also indicates that good manners are of great importance to the 2008 Olympic Games.

In my opinion, good manners are not only important to one citizen, but also to the whole country and the nation. I still remember that I once came across a really rude and impolite man. At that time, we were waiting for the same bus and the bus finally came. No sooner had the bus opened its door than he pushed onto it. What’s worse, he knocked down an old man and didn’t even say sorry! It was really rude and even cruel. This incident not only showed how bad manners the man had, but also told us a serious current situation that some of our citizens lack the sense of being polite.

If the situation continues, it will be a fatal problem to our 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010 Asian Games. So for the sake of our country and the two international Games, do be polite and keep good manners all the time.

The use of advertisement is certainly great both to the producer and the consumer. There is a great deal of truth in the saying that good quality and honest workmanship are best

advertisement. Of course, people know that the manufacturers would have done better if they have used the money for advertising in making better products to sell. But in these days of far-extended trade, there is no doubt that advertisement is necessary to make the existence of even first-class goods known. And even goods that are already well known must still be advertised. Some manufacturers are aware of the value of it, for, when they try to save money by stopping their advertisements, their sales go down at once.

But advertising has its abuses. Many advertisements are meant to cheat, and do at times cheat the public by raising the price of worthless goods. There is only one comfort in this aspect that a lying advertisement cannot sell worthless goods for long, for the people who buy it will not buy it a second time. As an old saying goes, “You can take in all people part of time; and you can take in some people all the time; but you cannot take in all the people all the time. [写作内容]

Advertisements have become a must for today’s business world and even the decisive factor towards the business activities. But they are sometimes wrongly used at the expenses of consumers, too.

Advertisements are getting their way into people’s lives. People heavily depend on advertising for the choice of their daily necessities and other commodities while manufacturers make their products publicly known through advertising.

There are many ways to advertise and “ads” come in different forms. Newspapers carry advertisements. Some products are announced on TV and radio. Billboards also carry advertising and advertising is a big industry now. However, advertising is not always truthful. A product is often misrepresented. The advertiser exaggerates the benefits of the merchandise he wants to sell. Thus, he misrepresents the truth. The consumer falls with victim to such advertising. Millions of people have bought advertised products that they haven’t always been satisfied with.

Personally, there are advantages and disadvantages to advertisements. The emphases should be laid on the establishment of laws and regulations so that the consumers’ rights can be guaranteed.

One autumn, some swans came to the island from the far-away north to live through the winter. As they had been very lonely since they moved here, the old couple were so glad to see the swans there, so they fed them with small fish and chicken food. Soon, they became very close friends. The swans enjoyed themselves and went out with the old fisherman and saw him fishing. When the lake was frozen, the couple brought them into their hut and gave them food. Even when winter was over, the swans were unwilling to leave away from the fisherman, looking for food on the lake in the daytime and resting on the island at night. The old couple looked after them carefully until spring came when the ice on the lake melted. For many years, the old couple did so. But one day, the old couple became very ill and died. Since then, the swans could not find anybody to take care of them and finally they died of cold when winter came and the lake froze.

Real love

In the above fable, the old couple have shown us their valuable moral characters of being kind, friendly, considerate and unselfish to the swans, which made them unwilling to leave. ( 30 ) There is no denying that the couple loved the swans so much that they spared no efforts to help the swans. Helpful as it was at that moment, it would gradually weaken the swans’ living ability and cultivated the habit of laziness. Eventually, they took all the help for granted and completely

depend on others. In the long run, this kind of love isn’t the real one. Had I been the couple, I wouldn’t have done the favor to them unconditionally. Instead, I would have forced them to live independently, which might be cruel but would prove to be adequate. The harmful love is to arrange everything perfectly for him while the real love is to give him wings which results in lifelong benefits. Love

( 30 ) Inspired by the story, I sudde3nly realized the importance of independence. As far as I am concerned, the death of the swans resulted from their over-reliance on the couple. They abandoned themselves in the selfless love and became numb, without planning for their future. Worse still, they gradually lost their capability of hunting food. Finally I found him at his hotel according to the clues in the wallet. Love and gratitude

An angry driver told the author that with 300 dollars in it, he made efforts to gives a lost wallet back to its owner out of kindness, only to receive nothing in return. But a suspected glare. To be frank, I appreciate the driver of his kindness but felt ashamed of the owner. Had I been the driver, I would have been angry as well, because when he found the lost wallet, he didn’t hesitate to search for the owner. Much to my admiration, what he wanted in return might be very simple, something like “Thank you” or a smile of gratitude, not even a little money, which could be enough. As is known to us all, those who appeal for love and gratitude are of great virtue. Both of them are exactly what we need to build up a harmonious society. Therefore, to be ready to show your love to whatever in need of help, express your gratitude to whoever helps you. Then you will find it is love and gratitude that leads to prosperity.

Gratitude

A driver returned a lost wallet to the owner but didn’t get anything, even a little bit of gratitude in return, which made the author think that to be grateful is simple but very useful. As far as I am concerned, what the owner did was very impolite, which showed that he never holds a grateful attitude to others’ help, we would never get out of it by ourselves. Therefore, what we need to do when receiving others’ assistance is to thank them sincerely, which is even more valuable than money or any other things. If I were the guy, I would show my sincere gratitude to such a warm-hearted person and I know that is all he wanted. Whatever you have got from others, though you are not able to return it, you should show them your gratitude which may be a treasure for others forever.
