第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分 30分) 第一节 (共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

When my daughter realized that she had really hurt another child with a mean word, she cried and immediately wanted to apologize. That was a good thing, but I wanted her to know an apology can't always make things better. So I told her the story of Will, a 9-year-old boy whose father left his mom two years earlier.

Will was angry, and he often hurt others with hurtful words. He once told his mom, \Dad left you!\Unable to deal with Will, the mother sent him to spend the summer with his grandparents. His grandmother's strategy to help Will learn self-control was to make him go into the garage and pound a two-inch-long nail (钉子) into a four-by-four board every time he said a mean thing. For a small boy, this was a hard task, but he couldn't return until the nail was all the way in.

After about ten trips to the garage, Will began to be more cautious about his words. In the end, he even apologized for all the bad things he'd said. One day his grandmother made him bring in the board filled with nails and told him to pull them all out. This was even harder than pounding them in, but after a huge struggle, he did it. His grandmother hugged him and said, \of course, I forgive you because I love you, but I want you to know that an apology is like pulling out one of those nails. Look at the board. The holes are still there. The board will never be the same. I know your dad put a hole in you, but please don't put holes in other people; you're better than that.\

The truth is that no matter how much we apologize to people, we can't take back what we said. The best thing for us to do is to try not to hurt people in the first place.

36. What did the writer's daughter do when she realized she had hurt another child? A. She cried and pretended to be hurt. B. She wanted to say sorry to that child. C. She wanted her mother to tell her a story.

D. She wanted her mother to apologize to that child. 37. Why did Will's mother send him to his grandparents'? A. Because Will could hurt nobody there.

B. Because she was afraid that other children would hurt Will.

C. Because Will's grandparents told her they had a good way with children. D. Because she didn't know how to stop Will from hurting others.

38. The underlined words \A. careful about B. excited about C. angry at D. interested in 39. What does the writer want to tell us by writing this passage? A. Parents should never hurt their children.

B. Children are more likely to listen to their grandparents. C. We should not hurt other people in the first place. D. Old people are really good at bringing up children.

What are you going to do if you are in a burning house? How will you escape? Do you know how to save yourself? Please read the following passage.

Escaping from a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life. It is important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways (楼梯) and fire escapes, but not lifts.

From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible. Learn the best way of leaving through windows with the least chance of serious injury (伤害).

The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. An average(平均高度的) person, hanging by the finger-tips (手指尖) will have a drop of about six feet to the ground. It is about the height of an average man. Of course, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.

Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed. Or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may have leaked (泄露) into the room.

On a second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those which open onto a roof (屋顶). From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto hard ground might end in injury. Bushes(灌木丛) and grass can help to break a fall. 40.It is important to ___.

A. put out the fire in the burning house C. jump off a burning house

B. know the ways to escape the fire D. keep the door closed

41.Which of the following escaping way is NOT TRUE? ___. A. You can escape though stairways. B. You can choose fire escapes.

C. Escape from the windows that open onto a roof. D. Use a lift to come down at once.

42.Open the window so that __ _ if the building is on fire. A. you can get fresh air B. you can call for help C. you can easily jump off D. you can be seen first

Last summer holiday, I took a trip to Yunnan. It is in the southern part of our country .It is really a very beautiful place--grand mountains, clean rivers and kind people. Trees and flowers are seen everywhere. Every year there are lots and lots of visitors.

Maybe you have heard about Shi Lin (stone forests). There are all kinds of strange stones. Some of the small stones look like graceful girls; and the big stones look like handsome men. Other stones look like cats, peafowls, double-edged swords, mice, elephants and so on. Of all the stones, the stone like a beautiful girl in a legend is the most famous .Its name is A Shima.

I also went to Li Jiang. The roads in that city are just like the Eight Diagrams. Any road in the city goes to the center of Li Jiang. A river runs through the whole city. If you go along the river, you’ll never get lost. There are many ethnic minority people in Yunnan. They are very cordial. And they all like singing and dancing. We danced with them around the campfire that night. I really had a good time.

What is the difference between happy people and unhappy people? 46 Read the following list of things that HAPPY people do differently from UNHAPPY people and you will know.

Well, I can tell you for sure that those people who are really happy, FEAR less and LOVE a lot more. They see each moment, each challenge, each person as an opportunity to discover more about themselves and the world around them. 47 Happy people understand that you can’t really change a situation by resisting(反抗)it. But they can feel better by understanding that there might be a reason for its existence(存在). 48 But rather, they ask themselves questions like: What can I learn from this? How can I make this better? They always seem to be pleasant and hopeful no matter what happens to them.

They do the things they do because of the meaning it brings into their lives and because they get a sense of purpose by doing so.

49 They care more about living a life full of meaning rather than, what in our modern society we would call, living a successful life. The fact here is that most of the time they get both, success and meaning, just because they choose to focus on doing the things they love the most.

50 They make sure that their actions bring meaning and happiness in the lives of many. They look for ways to give and to share the best of themselves with the world and to make other people happy.

A. They have an ideal (理想的)living and a balanced(平衡的) life. B. What are the things that these people do differently?

C. They are kind to themselves and others and they understand the power of love. D. The things happy people do are not for themselves, but for the good of others. E. They are ready to embrace (拥抱;接受)whatever lies in front of them.

F. They understand that “Doing what you love is the most important for living a full life”.

G. When something unpleasant happens to them, they don’t try to fight it, knowing that this will

make the situation even worse.

Glad to hear from you. Besides learning English in our school , another important way to learn English is to join in English corner. The details are as follows.

English corner , held on every Saturday morning, was founded two years ago. There are many middle school students as well as college students, who come here to practice their oral English .What’s more, friends from foreign countries are also interested in it , because they want to know more culture about our country. At the same time, when we communicate with others, it’s commonplace to find students with the same interest to talk with .In the end, what’s more important is that we can learn much experience about learning English from others, which can show us the correct direction to learn English well.
