My parents taught me not to waste food. My mom always found ways to make leftovers (剩余食物) taste good. I went to Ilan to learn about some of their special foods. As I was there, I learned about the food and the history of the area. I learned that they don’t waste food, either, and they use leftovers!

Many years ago, there was not enough food for everyone. People learned to cook and eat almost everything. They had to think of ways to make special dishes. One of these dishes is kao zha. I smelled something burning and I saw smoke, so I found another special food of the Ilan area─duck meat. The duck meat is put in a big oven (炉子) to cook it. Smoke keeps the meat fresh. I don’t usually eat meat, but this duck meat was delicious! It tasted sweet.

Want to stay away from colds? Put on a happy face.

―It seems that positive(积极的)feelings may reduce the danger of illness,‖ said the study’s chief researcher Sheldon Cohen.

In this study, Cohen’s team interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks. During the interviews, the people told researchers about the happy or sad feelings they had that day.

After the two weeks, the people were given colds by doctors and had to stay alone in a room for six days.

The results showed that everyone in the study was equally likely to get ill. Buy for people who said they felt happy during the research period, their illness are less serious and lasted for a shorter time.

Cohen believes that when people experience positive feelings, their body may produce a chemical(化学的) that helps fight illness and disease. So if you are worried abut your health, look on the bright side more often.

听短文,从所给选项中选出最佳答案。

Hello, students. Your history teacher asked me to tell you about what life was like when I was a girl. Well, I was born in 1915, so I’m a very old lady now. When I was a girl, I lived on a farm with my parents and my brother. I didn’t have any sisters. We used to grow most of our food on the farm. Now I live in an flat in the city, so I have to buy food at the supermarket, but it doesn’t

taste as good as it used to. My mother used to make all my clothes and today I still make most of my clothes; I don’t like to buy them. Mother had lots of time because my father traveled to Europe and Africa. I used to write long letters to him. Today, I send e-mails to my grandchildren because I don’t see them very often. I think family life was better in the past when families lived near each other. I got married in New York when I was 21. My husband and I went across the Atlantic Ocean by boat. It took us seven days. Now you can fly on a plane and it only takes six hours. I used to travel often, but now I’m in poor health so I don’t travel anymore. But I still like to read about travel. My grandchildren bought me a computer so I can search for interesting places. I used to read books and dream of going to China, but now I can see wonderful pictures on the Internet. That’s so exciting!
