Teaching Plan for PEP English Primary Students’ Book Grade 5(A)

The Second period of Unit 4 What Can You Do?

Ⅰ. Background Information:

Students are in the first term of grade 4. They’ve learned English for about two years. They have known the phrases, “sweep the floor”, “cook the meal”, “clean the bedroom”, “water the flowers” and “empty the trash”. They also know the song in the part of “let’s chant”

Lesson duration: 40 minutes

Ⅱ. Teaching Contents:

Ⅲ Teaching Aims:

1. Help students understand and speak the sentence patterns

2. Let them use the sentences in the real life.

3. Help them develop a fine quality of loving labors and helping others. Ⅳ Teaching Focuses: Use the new sentences patterns.

Ⅴ Teaching Difficulties: Use the sentences patterns in the daily life. Ⅵ Teaching Aids: Cards with pictures, cards with words and PPT Ⅶ Teaching procedures:

Step1 Greetings:

1T: Good morning /afternoon/evening boys and girls.

Ss: ……

T: Today we are going to learn Unit 4. Are you ready for class? Ss: ……

T: Let’s listen to the music, and you should do the action, ok? Ss: ……

T: Now fellow me. (The teacher plays the music and does the actions with the students together.)

Step2 Revision:1. When the music is over, the teacher takes out a card of “sweep the floor” and asks the students the questions “What can you do at home?” and guides the students to answer “I can sweep the floor.” Then revision the other four phrases in the same way.

2. Play a game: The teacher tells them the rulers of the game and asks one students to do with her so that the students know how to play. Then the teacher asks two students to the front and asks one to do the action according to the cards and the other should guess the phrases. If they are right, the teacher should give them a present.

Step 3 presentation:

1. The teacher use the PPT to introduce Chen Jie “This is Chen Jie, she is helpful at home. She can do many things at home. Do you know what she can do?” And the teacher guides them to answer the questions.

2. The teacher invites one student to stand up and say “I think you are helpful at home. What can you do? Then the teacher guides he/she to answer the question, like “I can……” and give some comments, such as “Good job! You are helpful at home!” or some presents.

Step 4 Drill:

T: Oh, I think you are helpful at home. What can you do?

Ss: …… (The teacher guides the students to answer the question “I can……”)

T: Follow me, I can sweep the floor.

Ss: ……

Step5 Consolidation:

1. Play a game: Ask two or three students to choose one of the cards with the picture and say what he /she can do, and the teacher gives them the comments, such as “Great! You are helpful!”

2. Group work: Divide the students into different groups (A group could have 3-5 students.) to do a survey and fill in the form. Then the teacher asks one student from each group to tell us the results.

T: Now you should choose one to be the group leader and do the teamwork and fill in the form, ok? Just like this. (The teacher asks one student to help her to present the dialogue.)

T: Are you helpful at home?

S: Yes, I’m helpful.

T: What can you do?

S: …… (The teacher fills in the form)

T: I can……

T: Ok, let’s go. (Then the teacher asks two or three groups to tell us the results and give them the comments.)

Step 6 Homework:

Use the sentences patterns to make three dialogues
