When I came to the college, my parents are happy but also a little upset. ① When I leave them, they feel very lonely.② In recent years, a problem typically found in China is the empty nesters, a term referring to older people whose kids left home for job or other things, and living alone without the company or immediate care of their relatives.③

There are many reasons to cause this result. For example, more and more people left their hometowns and families to study, work, or settle down in other cities or going abroad, leaving the elderly in empty houses feeling lonely and helpless.④

How to solve this problem? I think children can help the empty nesters overcome their loneliness. Firstly, it is no doubt that the children are the most part in the hearts of parents. ⑤ Now technology is so advanced, we are able to communicate with parents in a variety of ways, such as qq, telephone, network video, E-mail and so on. If we are often able to communicate to parents, caring about them, they will feel less loneliness.⑥ On the other hand, we should give them a little surprise in some important day, for example in their birthday, Father's day, Mother's day and so on. Little surprise can be a heartfelt words, a small gift, or just a sentence ‘happy birthday’, is enough to make them very happy. ⑦

Parents gave us roots for so many years, only to then give us wings. ⑧Maybe they also need wings to get used to the life in an empty nest. We should try our best to care about them, only in this way can they have a happy life.
