Once upon a time (从前), some little frogs held a competition. The first to reach the top of a very high tower (塔) would be the winner. A big crowd gathered (聚集) around the tower to watch the race and cheer them on.

The race began. No one in the crowd really believed that any of the little frogs would reach the top of the tower. “I’m sure no one will make it,” someone said. One by one, the frogs fell down.

The crowd kept shouting, “It’s too difficult! Give up! Give up!”

More frogs got tired and gave up, but one went on climbing, higher and higher. This one wouldn’t give up.

In the end, he was the only one left, the only one to get to the top. The other frogs naturally wanted to know: How did the frog reach the top?

One frog stepped forward to ask the winner. It turned out that the winner was deaf!

He had won because he was able to keep his own mind. He couldn’t hear others’ words. Now do you understand why he succeeded?

You may hear about earthquakes (地震), but do you know what to do before, during and after an earthquake? Here is some advice for you:

Before an earthquake It’s necessary to prepare yourself and your family for it. All family members should know how to turn off gas, water and electricity and know useful telephone numbers (doctor, hospital, police, etc). Never put heavy things over beds.

During an earthquake It’s important for each of you to stay calm. If you’re indoors, quickly move to a safe place in the room such as under a strong bed or a strong table. The purpose is to protect yourself from falling objects. Stay away from windows, large mirrors (镜子), heavy furniture and so on. If you are cooking, turn off the gas.

If you are outdoors, move to an open area like a playground. Move away from

buildings, bridges and trees. If you are driving, stop the car as soon as possible, staying away from bridges and tall buildings. Stay in your car.

After an earthquake once the shaking has stopped, do not run out of the building at once. It’s better to wait and leave when it is safe.

Check around you and help the people who are in trouble. If your building is badly broken, you should leave it. If you smell the gas, get everyone outside and open windows and doors. If you can do it safely, turn off the gas. Report it to the gas company.

Firstly, it is quicker and easier than other ways. We don’t have to go to the post office. And we can send an e-mail at any time. Secondly, we can send not only words but also some other information such as pictures and videos. Last but not least, e-mails cost almost nothing. So I think e-mails are much better than other communication ways.
