On Saturday, millions of people around the world will celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, which honors Patron Saint (or main religious figure) of Ireland. Communities across the United States will host parades, parties, and other festivities to mark the occasion.

This year, cities like Boston, New York, and Chicago have organized massive events celebrating Saint Patrick's Day. Have you ever thought, “I wish I could take a year off and just travel around the world”? Well, three lucky American teenagers were able to do just that. The teens—two males and one female--got an all-expenses paid, yearlong hike to five continents.

This trip didn’t include any five-star hotels or shopping funs. Eighteen-year-old Jamie Fiel from Keller, Texas, 17-year-old Arsen Ewing from Canyon, California, and 16-year-old Tyler Robinson from Lincoln, Massachusetts, didn’t expect fancy treatment. They signed up for the experience of a lifetime, which included hard work, often uncomfortable accommodations, and encounters with some of nature’s most dangerous animals and environments.

Jamie, Arsen, and Tyler were among hundreds of high school kids nominated by their science teachers to take this trip. Earthwatch Institute sponsored(赞助)this adventure. Each year, Earthwatch employs thousands of volunteers worldwide to help with scientific research projects.

The group went all around the world to get a close look at the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Their assignments were as varied as their locations, and included measuring and attending pink flamingos in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, and tracking giant sea turtles in Costa Rica.

As they worked with the Earthwatch scientists, Jamie, Arsen, and Tyler began to understand that we are at a critical moment in the life of our planet. Time for change is running out. As the teens went from country to country and witnessed different environmental dangers and challenges, they understood that solutions to important environmental issues start with the power of one person's actions. They realized that each of them can make a difference. 53.These teenagers went on the journey around the world _____.

语态,故选to have been badly treated。

11.A。 又因为the museum与complete

When (the museum is)completed, the museum will be open to the public next year.

As for至于,besides

16.A。 contribute to doing sth. 17.A。 主句的主语是more and more people,即“获好处

她能独自完成吗?on her own

表示“独自”,of her own表示“自己的”,of her own accord表示“自愿地”,in her own right表示“有其本身价值”。

19.B。根据语境,the shortage of teachers判断第二空为否定的推断,故用little chance of…,

Jane Austen

The Catcher in the Rye 《麦田守望者》中的年轻的烦恼相比。

Dream and reality

Nowadays, there is an increasing tendency for parents to design the future for their children. Regardless of the children’s interest, some parents want them to attend all kinds of other classes, laying a heavy burden on their shoulders. As a result, the children almost have no time to play.

A typical case is my neighbor Mr. and Mrs. Wang. They want their child to be an artist. They choose a music class on Saturday and a painting on Sunday for the child. In fact, the child has no interest at all. The child is kept busy all day. After a few years their efforts turn out to be a vain.

I think parents should let their children develop their talent by their own choice and interests and give them enough time and space to learn what they want to. Children should be encouraged to get close to nature. We should help children turn their dream of enjoying the beauty of nature into reality. Only in this way can children have a happy and enjoyable life.
