YOU may feel curious (好奇的) about students in other countries: Do they also have so much homework? What do they do in their spare time? On April 8, a report came out on the lives of high school students in China, Japan, South Korea and the US. It surveyed around 6,200

students from the four countries last year. You will find the answers to many of your questions in this report.

Who studies hardest?

Chinese students spend the most time studying. Nearly half of Chinese students spend more than two hours on their homework every day. That?s much more than students of the US (26.4%), Japan (8.2%) and South Korea (5.2%).

Who sleeps most often in class?

Japanese students fall asleep in class most often. About 45% of them said they sometimes doze off (打瞌睡) in class. In South Korea, it?s 32%; in the US, 21%; and 5% in China. South Korean students don?t like taking notes. About 70% said they write down what the teacher says in class, many fewer than in Japan (93%), China (90%) and the US (89%).

Who is the most distracted (分心的)?

American students are the most active in class, but also the most distracted: 64.2% said they chat with friends in class; 46.9% said they eat snacks in class; and 38.9% said they send e-mails or read unrelated (无关的) books in class.

What do they do after school?

In their spare time, most Chinese students study or surf the Internet. Most American students hang out with their friends. Most Japanese students do physical exercises. Most Korean students watch TV.

Shanghai heat

YOU can?t find a “hotter” city than Shanghai this summer, and it?s not just because of the weather. By August 14, over 40 million people had visited the Shanghai World Expo. Among the visitors were many students from all over the country. The Expo was their top choice for a summer holiday. What impressed (使……印象深刻) them at the Expo? Which pavilion (场馆) was their favorite? Four students share their stories.

Wang Feibai, 14, Beijing:

My favorite pavilion was the SAIC-GM Pavilion(汽车馆). With a 3D movie, it showed us what cars will be like in 20 years: they will not use oil, they will avoid (避免) accidents, and we will be able to park our future cars on balconies (阳台)!

I was a keen collector of Expo passport (护照) stamps. My four passports have now become a reminder (提示) of my unforgettable Expo tour.

Wang Yuze, 12, Beijing:

I loved China?s Joint Provincial Pavilions (各省联合馆). Each of the small pavilions is a different style. They clearly show the characteristics (特点) of provinces in China. For example, the Jiangxi Pavilion looks just like a big porcelain bowl (瓷碗).

Ni Yunwen, 13, Shanghai:

My favorite is the US Pavilion. I love the 4D movie, The Garden. It tells a touching (感人的) story about people in the city. Besides, I felt glad to be an Expo volunteer (志愿者). Though I was tired, I enjoyed the work.

Chen Luyun, 14, Tiantai, Zhejiang:

The Saudi Arabia (沙特阿拉伯) Pavilion is my favorite. To enter the “Moon Boat”, I waited for more than five hours. There were just so many people! But when I got into the pavilion, I found that the wait was worthwhile (值得的). It was amazing to watch 3D movies in the IMAX theater.

62 The passage tells us that Shanghai is especially hot

because _______. A it is popular B there are too many people C it is summer D the Shanghai World Expo has attracted millions of people 63 Who was keen on Expo passport stamps?

A Wang Feibai B Ni Yunwen C Wang Yuze D Chen Luyun 64 Which of the following is RIGHT?

A All of the four students come from Beijing.

B Chen Luyun waited for more than five hours to enter the “Moon Boat” . C Expo passport can let you visit the pavilions again . D Wang Yuze is the oldest of the four..

65 Which pavilion is NOT mentioned in the passage?
