■表达“世纪和年代”时，要使用“in the + 世纪年代（整十）的复数形式”，例如：二十世纪八十年代，可以写作：in the 1980’s，in the 1980s或者in the nineteen eighties。“在五十年代”，可以写作：in the 50’s，in the 50s或者in the fifties。

e.g.

That happened in the nineteen twenties / in the 1920’s / in the 1920s. Luxun was a famous writer in the 30’s / in the 30s / in the thirties.

具体说明“某一世纪、年代的早期、中期或末期”时，可以在介词in 之前加用early 或late，也可以在定冠词之后加用early，middle或late。

■表达“年龄”时，我们通常要用到“in one’s +整十的复数形式”。经常用作表语或后置定语。例如：

in one’s teens 在某人十几岁的时候（指十三岁至十九岁） in one’s twenties 在某人二十几岁的时候 in one’s thirties 在某人三十几岁的时候 in one’s forties 在某人四十几岁的时候 in one’s fifties 在某人五十几岁的时候

如此等等，以此类推。视其情况，也可在one’s之后加用early或late。 A person in his teens is from 13 to 19 years old. Mary was in her early twenties.

My eldest brother was in his late thirties. ■附：“年龄”表达法几例

①“?year(s) old”，经常用作表语。

When Mary was nine years old, her mother died. ②只使用基数词，经常用作表语。

I am thirty-five and you are thirty-four. ③“of +基数词”，经常用作后置定语。 At that time he was just a boy of sixteen.

④“数词—单数名词—old”，复合形容词，经常用作前置定语。 There he met a five-year-old boy named Tom. ⑤“at the age of +基数词”，经常用作状语。

At the age of twelve, Edison began selling newspapers on a train.
