TheADS1247hasaninternalclockorcanbeprovidedanexternalclock.TheEVMusestheinternalclockmodeonly.ProvisionismadeontheEVMcircuitboard,however,foranexternalclocksource.AfootprintisprovidedatU8foracrystaloscillatortobemountedontheboard.Anexternalclockmayalsobe
providedbyaprocessorontheTOUTpin(J7.17),oranexternalclocksourceconnectedtoJ9.1(ground)andJ9.2(signal).
J2controlshowtheclocksourceisselected.WithpinsJ2.1andJ2.2shorted,GPIO5fromJ7.19cancontrolwhethertheAorBsideofU7isselected.IftheAsideisselected,theclockshouldcomefromanexternalsourceprovidedasdescribedabove.IftheBsideisselected,theclockshouldcomefromthecrystaloscillator.Ifaselectionismadeandnoclockisprovidedonthatinput,theADS1247detectsthatnoexternalclockispresentandenablesitsinternaloscillator.
6.1UsageinPDK
IfusingtheADS1247EVMaspartoftheADS1247EVM-PDK,removeanyshortingblocksonjumperJ6,andmakesureJ2hasajumperbetweenpins1and2(theIOposition).ThisconfigurationgroundstheCLKinputtotheADS1247andensuresthattheinternaloscillatorstartsup.
6.2UsageasaStand-AloneEVM
IfusingtheEVMinyourownsystemandnotwiththePDKhardwareandsoftware,observethefollowingrecommendations:
J6shouldberemovediftheexternalclocksourceisusedandtheTOUTpinisstilldrivenbyaprocessorinordertoavoidconflicts.
JumperJ2canbeusedtoalwaysselecttheU8oscillator(DVDDposition)orallowtheonboard/externalclockselectiontobecontrolledbyGPIO5(J7.19)asshowninFigure2.

7.1AnalogInput
EachoftheanaloginputsourcescanbeapplieddirectlytoJ8(toporbottomside)orthrough
signal-conditioningmodulesavailableforthethemodularEVMsystem.TerminalblockJ4isconnectedinparallelwiththeanalogsignalconnectionstoJ8.Eachinputhasa47 /47pFRCfilterinserieswithit,andadifferential0.1μFcapacitorisacrosseachinputpairforusewithdifferentialsignals.
7.2DigitalControl
ThedigitalcontrolsignalscanbeapplieddirectlytoJ7(toporbottomside).ThemodularADS1247EVMcanalsobeconnecteddirectlytoaDSPormicrocontrollerinterfaceboard,suchasthe5-6KInterfaceorHPA-MCUInterfaceboardsavailablefromTexasInstruments,ortheMMB3ifpurchasedaspartoftheADS1247EVM-PDK.Foralistofcompatibleinterfaceand/oraccessoryboardsfortheEVMortheADS1247,seetherelevantproductfolderontheTIwebsite.
