Directions: In Section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers on your paper, and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.
1. M: Yes, madam. What seems to be the problem?
W: I’d like to report a robbery. It’s my car. It’s been stolen. Q: What’s probably the man’s occupation?
2. W: Did you notice who John was talking to at the party?
M: I was too busy greeting all the guests. Q: What does the man imply?
3. W: Don’t you think his talk was boring? M: No, not at all. He gave us plenty of data. Q: What does the man think of the talk? 4. W: Where shall we go today then?
M: Shall we try the Royal Garden recommended in the leaflet? Q: What will the two speakers do next? 5. W: Is there a lady’s room around here?
M: There is. But unlucky for you. It has a big “out of use” sign on it. Q: What does the man mean?
6. M: You know, if the weather is still this hot tomorrow, we had better drop the plan of playing
basketball in the afternoon.
W: Oh, I’ve got the feeling it won’t last. The weather forecast expects it to cool down later
today.

Section B
Directions: In Section B, you will hear two short passages, and you will be asked three questions on each of the passages. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard. Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage.
Patricia Pania never wanted to be a public figure. All she wanted to be was a mother and homemaker. But her life was turned upside down when a motorist, lost his concentration due to his cell phone, ran down a stop sign and crashed into the side of her car. The impact killed her 2-year-old daughter. Four months later, Pania decided to try to educate the public and to fight for laws to ban drivers from using cell phones while a car is moving. She wanted to save other children. In her first speech, Pania got off to a difficult start. She was visibly trembling and her voice was soft and uncertain. But as she got into her speech, a dramatic change took place. She stopped shaking and spoke with a strong voice. For the rest of her talk, she was a forceful speaker. She wanted everyone to know what she knew. The audience were moved to tears and to action. In the following presentations, Pania gained reputation as a highly effective speaker. Her appearance on a talk show was broadcast three times. Her campaign increased public awareness of the problem, and over 300 cities are considering restriction on cell phone use. 11. What led to Pania’s personal tragedy?

Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage.
The latest reform in testing is the computerized test. Test questions and answer choices are presented on the screen. Before the actual test begins, there usually is an instruction showing how to use the computer to respond to the questions. Scores are displayed on the screen at the end of the test so that a student can have an immediate feedback.
Some computerized tests are “adaptive”. This means that a test question is selected from a large pool of items based on how the test taker has responded to the previous question. The first question presented is of medium difficulty. If the test taker answers correctly, the next item will be more difficult. If he or she answers incorrectly, the next question will be easier. The computer classifies questions by level of difficulty and other factors before presentation. In this way, the questions are “adapted” to find the true skill level of the test taker.
Among all the conveniences of computerized testing, there are some limits. No longer can you have a quick look at the entire test. Test items are presented one at a time, and you must choose an answer in order to move on to the next question. On adaptive tests, once you have confirmed your answer, you cannot go back to change it.

Section C
Directions: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet. Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation. W: Good morning, sir. How can I help you?
M: I’d like to inquire about flights to Madrid. Are there any flights next Saturday?
W: Let me check. Here we are. There is a morning flight on China Eastern Airlines. Are you traveling alone, sir?
M: Yes, I am. What time does the flight leave?
W: It leaves at 9: 00 a. m. How would you like to fly? Economy, business class or first class? M: Business class, please. W: What’s your name? M: Tom Ward.
W: OK, Mr. Ward. Your Flight Number is 55(double 5) 2, which is leaving at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 9:00 a.m. next Saturday, the 6th of October. Please be sure to check in two hours in advance. M: Thank you.

Blanks 21 through 24 are based on the following conversation: W: Professor Hopkins. May I have a word with you? M: Sure, Meg. What’s up?
W: I got a C for my report. I am wondering what I have done wrong. You know I have put much time and energy to the report.
M: Well, Meg. I’m afraid you didn’t meet the deadline. The due day is September 3rd. You are two days late to hand in the report.
W: Yes, Professor. I am sorry about that.
M: And this report is about the success of the Starbucks Coffee. In your report, you have mentioned the company’s management, selections of stores and service. But I am surprised that you didn’t mention anything about its coffee. It’s a coffee shop, Meg. Isn’t the taste of its coffee the most important thing to its success? W: Yeah, I guess I left it out.
M: And figures are important too. You also need to add an actual figure such as the monthly sales. W: You are quite right professor.
M: And you’d better write the report again by doing more research and looking for figures. W: Are you giving me another chance, professor? M: Seems like I am.

2. 评分是应注意的主要方面:内容要点,应用词汇和语法结构的数量和准确性及上下文
的连贯性。
3. 评分时,现根据文章的内容和语言初步确定所属档次,然后对照相应的组织结构档次
给予加分。其中,内容和语言两部分相加,得15分或以上者,可考虑加4-5分,15分以下者只能考虑加0,1,2,3分。 4. 词书少于70,总分最多不超过10分。
各档次给分要求:

A. 内容充实,主题突出,详略得当。 B. 内容较充实,能表达出作文要求。 C. 内容基本充实,尚能表达出作文要求。

A. 具有很好的语言表达能力,语法结构正确或有些小错误,主要因为使用了较复杂结构或
