1. Two types of LR: Self-contained LR

1. Introductory beginning (background information or definition or what is the problem studied); 2. Objective by reporting the past or previous studies on the topic;
3. Main findings or ideas by summarizing each article you have gathered or referred to; 4. Listing of your reference
A literature review as a part of an essay (期中考试写这种类型的文献综述) 具体内容包括:(注意运用connective or signal language 衔接以下内容)
1. Introductory beginning (background information or definition or what is the problem studied); 2. Objective by reporting the past or previous studies about the topic;
3. Main findings or ideas of articles the writer use to comment on the study; 4. The main limitation of the previous studies?
5. Further study (what do you intend to do in your research?) 6. Listing of your references
2. Analysis of Critical Reading: Introduction Part
Paragraph 1: Introduction (Definition of GMOs, general situation of previous studies on it with
key words “safety”, “four main sources” , “human, animal, environment” and “hazards”.) Paragraph 2: Main findings.
Previous studies about general harmful effects of GM crops on animals. Key words: metabolism and organisms.(作者自己的综合分析+文献证据) Paragraph3: Main findings.
Previous studies on GM components. Foreign DNA persists in organs of animals and in fetus and the new borns. (两次用到however. 作者的综合分析+文献证据)
Last two sentences: Conclusion. Pointing out the limitation and objective of the paper (although连接两句).
3. Steps for writing a LR: 1). Decide on a topic.
2). Search for resources relevant to the topic and choose the sources that make a significant contribution to the topic.
3). Make an analysis and interpretation of the sources: similarities and differences; research history and new trend; problems solved and problems unsolved.(Decide your title at this step.) 4). Consider the organization of the sources(The order to present the sources). 5). Begin composing. Introduction +body +conclusion.
Use evidence, be selective, use quotes sparingly, summarize and synthesis, keep your own voice(express your own idea and use sources to support it).
