Cooperative Placement Guide

INTRODUCTION

Students of the School of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts - Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in English Language and Communication are required to do three cooperative placements. In each cooperative placement, students are requested to work or do their internship for two months at the end of every year of study. However, graduating students may do their final cooperative placement upon completion of all subjects (excluding cooperative placement) any time of the year. This cooperative placement can be done in either public or private organizations. The choice of placements can be assisted by Cooperative Education and Career Services as well as personal interest, with the approval from CECS and respective departments.

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of cooperative placement is to provide an extended period of work experience with elements of responsibilities and challenges for students in a real working environment. Students are to consolidate and apply academic learning and skills in a working environment and at the same time foster their ability and self – confidence to operate in an employment context. While working, students should be able to relate academic theory to practice and vice versa. Ultimately, this initiative will help students in preparing themselves to be standout professionals. ELIGIBILITY FOR COOPERATIVE PLACEMENT

Students must complete 80% of subjects for each year to be eligible for Cooperative Placement 1, 2 and 3. As such, students going for Cooperative Placement 1 must complete 80% of Year 1 subjects; students going for Cooperative Placement 2 must complete 80% of Year 2 subjects and students going for Cooperative Placement 3 must complete 80% of Year 3 subjects.
