When young people begin to live independently, home-hunting can be difficult. But they would do well to remember that a new choice is available --- micro-homes.
Fondly called “tiny houses,” these houses have all living necessities in a small package, including kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Generally under 50 square meters, most tiny houses can hold just one or two people though some say they have the space for more. What’s lost in size is not lost in design as these homes are often quite modern in design.
Besides an attractive appearance, tiny houses can also have practical features(特点). Making the best of urban space, the 72-to-122-centimeter-wide Keret House in Warsaw, the world’s narrowest home, filled in an alley(小巷). The house uses solar power, wind power and rainwater collection to make its owner live practically anywhere.
Although micro-homes are attractive, there are a few disadvantages to consider before getting comfortable on a minicouch. Moving into a tiny house, you should throw away unnecessary things. It is also mostly impossible to invite guests. And finally, a micro-home is likely a temporary(暂时的) living choice for most people since they will probably start families and own more things.
Though the limitation will scare some, there is usually a benefit. A small size results in low prices and small bills, making tiny houses easier to afford. And though you won’t have many things around the house, it makes it easy and simple to keep it clean. Micro-homes are also eco-friendly, which can’t be matched by other homes. They probably aren’t for everyone or forever, but when it comes to your next (or first) home, they could be just what you need. 34. What can be learnt about micro-homes from Paragraph 2? A. People can’t take a package into the tiny houses. B. All of the houses can hold more than two people. C. These houses are convenient though tiny in size.
D. Such houses are poorly designed because of the small size. 35. The author develops Paragraph 3 mainly _____. A. by examples B. by comparisons C. by order in space D. by causes and
effects 36. Micro-homes are especially suitable for _____. A. a young person who has many things
B. a person who doesn’t have much money C. a couple who want to protect environment
D. a family hoping to settle down in a city 37. What can be the best title for the text? A. East or west, home is the best. B. Micro-homes --- more than tiny! C. Home-hunting --- no easy matter! D. Tiny or large, this is a choice.

US poet Allen Ginsberg once said, “Poetry is the one place where people can speak their original(独创的) human mind.”
To know the special ability of poetry to catch the human spirit, World Poetry Day is held by the United Nations on March 21 each year.
The magic of poetry lies in the connection built up through words between the writer and the reader. When we read a poem, we often imagine what the poet was thinking when they wrote it, or what they were doing at the time. These thoughts let us connect with the words better, as if we’d written the poem ourselves.
But in the age of artificial intelligence (AI,人工智能), would a poem still mean as much if it weren’t written by a human at all? Today, computers can create all kinds of texts, including research papers, books, news stories and even poems.
In 2013, Australian researcher Oscar Schwartz and his friend Benjamin Laird created a website called “bot or not”, where readers can read poems and guess whether they were written by a human or a computer. During a recent speech at TedX
Sydney, Schwartz said that all over the years, some of the website’s poems were able to fool 65 percent of human readers into thinking they were written by a human.
By creating the website, Schwartz and Laird hoped that people would doubt the difference between humans and machines – and be able to tell what makes us human. “The human mind is not a cold, hard fact,” Schwartz said during his speech. A computer may be able to create poems that are correct in both grammar and style, but it wouldn’t be able to get the same meanings and feelings across as a human poet could. In fact, now AI software creates poems based on ones that have already been written by humans. As Schwartz noted, “The computer works like a mirror that reflects any idea of a human.”
42. The purpose of the first three paragraphs is to ___________. A. introduce where World Poetry Day comes from. B. show how popular poetry is around the world.
C. show the importance and beauty of poetry. D. give some tips on enjoying poetry.
43. What did the data(数据)from “bot or not” show? A. Computers are better than humans at writing poetry. B. Computers can also produce poems of high quality.
C. Readers don’t really care whether the poems were written by humans. D. Few readers can tell poems written by computers from those by humans.
44. According to the article, computers can’t match humans in creating poems because they________.
A. fail to use the correct grammar and style B. can’t create poems that are meaningful C. can’t show feelings as well as humans D. only know how to follow humans’ poems
45. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. World Poetry Day is held by the United Nations every two years. B. The magic of poetry lies in the ability of the writer.
C. Nowadays, computers are able to create different kinds of texts. D. Some poems created by computers are incorrect in style. 四、词汇运用(共l0小题;每小题l分,计l0分)

Travel sets us thinking and makes us in discussions of major world problems. Traveling can improve our thinking skills. That’s WHY we travel. What follows is HOW we travel.
CHEAP TRAVEL
The less you spend, the closer you come to the reason you came.
We’re savers by choice when traveling, although we could afford to stay in middle-priced hotels and eat in their restaurants if we cut back on the length of our trips. By spending less we can travel longer and travel better. We meet more locals by using buses rather than taxis and by staying in small family-run hotels and eating in local-style cafes. Spending too much money makes you away from the foreign experience you came to have.
TRAVELERS --- NOT TOURISTS
What’s the difference? Travelers are more likely to get deeper into the life of a country than tourists. The way to do this is to do lots of pre-trip reading about the countries we will visit, and try to learn a few words of local languages.
Independent travel is usually far less expensive than packaged tours. We don’t use travel agents because we don’t stay in hotels that charge high, and we can get cheaper tickets on the Internet. We like figuring out where to eat and working out how to get around. This puts us into direct contact with the local people. Independent travel isn’t as comfortable or convenient, but it’s the most meaningful way to travel.
MOVING AROUND
Despite its discomforts, we take public transportation whenever possible. Traveling in a car is easier, but also scarier. In much of the world roads are poor and driving behaviors are not fixed. Luckily, even the less developed countries often have good public transportation systems, riding buses and trains brings us into close contact with the local people.
CARRYING STUFF(东西)
Backpacks work better for long-term travel than the wheeled luggage(轮式行李箱) most middle-aged travelers use. Using luggage is fine with a car, but backpacks are easier for bus and train travel. Best of all, wearing backpacks bridge the gap between age groups --- allowing gray-haired travelers like us to make friends with younger travelers.
56 to
Travel can make us think and 57 major world problems.
travel
Cheap travel How to travel Being travelers We 58 to be savers while travelling so that we can travel for a 59 time, and get close to the foreign experience. ● Travelers can get a better 60 of the life of a country than tourists ● We need to 61 in advance(提前) if we want to be independent travelers. ● Although packaged tours can avoid some trouble, independent travel can be more 62 .
