Hong Kong to expand Disneyland

The Hong Kong government plans to double the s of its Disneyland theme park.

Hong Kong’s Financial Secretary John Tsang(财政司司长曾俊华) said Wednesday in his budget speech that the Hong Kong Special

Administrative Region government (香港特区政府) would d with the Walt Disney Company the Phase 2 development (二期开发) of Hong Kong Disneyland.

The second-phase development will c an estimated area of 60 hectares(公顷), about the same size of the first phase, with attractions, hotel development, and shopping malls, said Mr. Tsang.

The Disneyland theme park serves a a popular tourist attraction. It has played an important r in improving Hong Kong’s tourism. The CEO of Hong Kong Disneyland told the press that the theme park has attracted over 50 million v since its opening in 2005. Along with the expansion of the theme park, the construction of the “Iron Man Experience” (铁甲奇侠飞行之旅) themed zone of Hong Kong Disneyland and the “Tree Bay Water Park” at Tai Shue Wan (大树湾) in Hong Kong Ocean Park is expected to be c in 2016-2017. Sightseeing projects such as the Observation Wheel (观光摩天轮), a variety of carnivals (狂欢嘉年华), exhibitions, and open-air c will take place from time to time.

By carrying out these projects, Hong Kong aims to improve l tourism with high added-value, and increase tourists’ consumption. Tsang said tourism, making up 5 percent of GDP and employing 270,000 people, has been driving the growth of many industries in Hong Kong.

Eddie Redmayne wins his first Oscar

British actor Eddie Redmayne won this year’s Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Professor Stephen Hawking (史蒂芬·霍金) in The Theory of Everything (《万物理论》).

The 33-year-old a has long been considered a front-runner to win this award. Much of his performance required him to act with limited mobility as he depicted the progression of Hawking’s disease (ALS,渐冻人症). This is Eddie’s first nomination and his first win.

As a kid g up in London, Eddie would stay up late to watch the Oscars, which are televised in the U.K. in the m of the night. However, he has never imagined himself winning an Oscar, because he has never a proper drama schools, and i studied history of art at the University of Cambridge.

Although he hasn’t attended any drama schools, he has a s passion for acting. When he was studying at Cambridge, Eddie often

performed on stage, and d of becoming a professional actor after graduation.

Now, by winning the Best Actor award, he has r not only his dream, but also many actors’ultimate goal.

In order to perform well in The Theory of Everything, the British actor spent four months r Hawking’s books. Apart from that, he also spent much time at a clinic in London with p who suffered from ALS, studying their speech patterns and the way they moved t life.

It is because of his hard work that Eddie could win s a big honor. But as for him, winning an Academy Award is not e . “I’m not going to rest on my laurels,” Eddie said. “I s have a lot of work to do to become a great actor!”
