You may know about ―junk food‖ like French fries. But do you know about ―junk sleep‖? Recently, a British survey found that electronic products in teenagers‘ bedrooms are affecting their sleep.

The survey was done among 1,000 British kids aged 12 to 16. It found that 30 percent of them got just 4 to 7 hours sleep every day. But experts say they need 8 to 9 hours.

Almost a quarter of the kids said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.

―This is very worrying‖ said Dr Chris Idzikowski, a British expert. ―We call it ‘junk sleep’. It means you don‘t get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is bad too. If you don‘t get good rest, you don‘t perform well in school the next day.‖

The survey found that 40 percent of the kids felt tired each day, with girls aged 15 to 16 feeling the worst. Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, MP4 or TV in their bedroom. And around two-thirds of them have all three.

37. ―Junk food‖ and ―junk sleep‖ are similar to each other in the way that _______? A. they are both good to people‘s health. B. they are both low in quality. C. people enjoy both in their spare time. D. they are both produced in factories. 38. _____ of the children surveyed sleep only 4 to 7 hours a day.

Today almost everyone knows computers and the Internet. If I ask you ―What is the most important in your life?‖, maybe you will say ―Computers and the Internet. ‖

The first computer was made in 1946. It was very big but it worked slowly. Today computers are getting smaller and smaller. But they work faster and faster. What can computers do? A writer has said, ―People can‘t live without computers today. ‖

The Internet came a little later than computers. It is about twenty-five years later than computers. But now it can be found almost everywhere. We can use it to read books, write letters, do shopping, play games or make friends.

Many students like the Internet very much. They often go into the Internet as soon as they are free. They make friends on the Internet and maybe they have never seen these friends. They don‘t know their real names, ages, and even sex. They are so interested in making the ―unreal friends‖ that

11

they can‘t put their hearts into study. Many of them can‘t catch up with others on many subjects because of that.

We can use computers and the Internet to learn more about the world. But at the same time, we should remember that not all the things can be done by computers and the Internet. 26. The Internet can not be used for ____.

However, his failure to find a proper job after graduation pushed him towards magic as a career. He has performed on streets, roads and fields, for passers-by, policemen and farmers.

第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)

You might have some characters that you don‘t like. For example, you may be a shy person and you don‘t like it; you wish you are an outgoing person. You might then think that you are not smart enough. All these give reasons to you not to like yourself. Fortunately, there are always things you can do to make you like yourself. Here are some tips:

1. Write your success stories

One reason we may not like ourselves is that we are too focused on what we don‘t have that we forget about what we(already) have. So make a list of your achievements; write your success stories. They do not have to be big things; there are a lot of small but important achievements in our life.

2. Accept things you can’t change

There are some things you cannot change, such as your background and your past. So learn to accept them. You will feel much relieved if you treat things you can‘t change the way they deserve: just accept them, smile, and move on.

3. Focus on your strengths

Instead of focusing on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths. You always have some strengths which give you a unique person. Recognize your strengths and build your life around them.

4. Stop comparing yourself with others

14

You are unique. You can never be like ___________, and neither can other people be like you. The way you measure your success is not determined by other people. Instead, it is determined by your own life purpose. You have everything you need to achieve your life purpose, so it‘s useless to compare yourself with others.

Learning is a lifelong Journey

As we grow up, we go to primary school, junior middle school, senior middle school and universities. It seems that the learning process comes to an end after we find a job. However, that is not true.

As a well-known Chinese proverb says, there are no limits to learning. That is especially true nowadays. Knowledge is updated rapidly and new techniques are created all the time. For example, computers were far more a must for employees 10 years ago. But today a great majority of our work is done on them—from on-the-job training to self-study, people today have various ways of learning.

Life long learning is a good trend. Only through learning can we know what we don‘t know. Learning makes us intellectual and knowledgeable.

I am writing this story because it is not too late for me to talk to my parents. I realized this last night when visiting their house while they were away. I went to freshen it up for their return, and being at their house without them home made me sad.

As I went into their bedroom, I saw little reminders of them—some Christmas gifts still in boxes and family photos that must have a special meaning to them. What took my breath away was seeing my dad‘s medals from his military (军事的) service to our country.

21

第I卷 听力第三节 第四部分 第II卷 第五部分 第六部分 总 分 My father never talked about the war. As I looked at those medals hanging proudly with all the photos that he treasures, I realized that this was an important part of his life, and I never took the time to talk with him about it. The photos of my mom with friends made me realize that she had a life before she was ―my mom‖. My life has been so busy in raising my own family that I missed experiencing who my parents were.

I am grateful to have both of my parents. I still have time to talk…I hope that others will benefit from my story and find the time to really talk to those in their life that mean so much to them, such as their parents.
