Parents all struggle to get children to understand that money doesn’t grow on trees, wanting them to be responsible, work hard and learn to save a few bucks. But these lessons are among the most difficult to teach.

Enter KidZania, an internationally praised and truly unique children’s theme park, which makes life a little easier for parents.

KidZania is not a traditional theme park in almost any sense of the word---there are no roller coasters or merry-go-rounds in sight. There are, however, plenty of attractions and activities that will keep children busy, active, engaged and excited all day.

What makes it so much fun is that it’s a kid-sized city---complete with restaurants, banks, grocery stores and hospitals---where the kids get to be adults, doing the things most of us do on any normal day.

They start by picking one of nearly 100 “careers” and learning about it. Then, they put on their uniform and are ready to work and earn KidZania dollars(Kidzos) Most activities are universal but some are localized to reflect the distinct flavors and personality of the country and region where the park is located and to keep it real for the kids.

Kids get paid for every job they do, which helps them explore the mysteries of managing money. Kidzos in hand, they can spend it or save it. If they run short of money, they will have to find a way to earn some.

Each KidZania city is planned in amazing detail, even including real world brands that help sponsor the city and keep it running. I was a little wary of all the popular corporate logos, but the brands weren’t pushed at all. They are there to reinforce the “real city” feelings by mixing it with things kids recognize.

KidZania employs senior citizens who give the park as homey feel and help put children at ease. Management also employs the disabled, whether blind, deaf or wheelchair-bound. Besides making for a more realistic city, this teaches children about those with different abilities and gives them an opportunity to spend time with

- 11 -

people they might otherwise have stared at or treated less than kindly.

Socialization is an important part of KidZania, just as it is throughout childhood. The KidZania experience empowers kids, giving them the confidence to be their best selves, and the inspiration to be great global citizens. And it’s part of what makes KidZania such an amazing place for families and children. 67.KidZania is unique in that ________. A. it has no entertainment facilities B. it includes lots of localized activities

C. it offers kids chances to learn through working D. it employs many seniors and disabled people

68. The underlined word “wary” in paragraph 8 is similar in meaning to _____. A. astonished B. cautious C. delighted D. conscious 69. Children’s theme park KidZania is set up to ______. A. prepare them to be good citizens in the future B. provide them with a place to have a good time C. make them aware of their parents’ hardship

D. assist them in building a good relationship with parents 70. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage? A. Children do part-time jobs at a theme park B. A theme park pushes kids to be grown-ups C. KidZania theme park makes adults’ life easier D. Kids get to “be” adults at KidZania theme park

What Colleges Will Be Like in 2023

Imagine a university without textbooks and classes without calendars, but still costs a lot of money.

In 2023 colleges might not look different from the outside, but the learning experience

- 12 -

students receive will probably be different from the one they get today. Here are four areas where you can expect to see major changes and one area where you probably won't: The Classroom

In the near future, professors will run their courses over digital platforms where data on each student's progress can be collected. These platforms were initially developed for massive open on line courses, or MOOCs. However, universities are now folding these platforms back into their traditional classes because they make it easier to share content, host discussions and keep track of student work. A professor might still \professors and students do meet in a physical classroom, they will review materials, work through problems. The Calendar

As more classes move partially or entirely online, the requirements of having a uniform start and end date diminish (缩小) . Having all the class material on line also means some students could sail through a semester's worth of classes in a few weeks and then start again with new courses. Some might finish a bachelor's degree in two years. Those who stick around for four years might have three majors. The Institution

More universities are making their courses available through on line platforms such as Coursera and edX, and great lectures can be found on You Tube. Students are supplementing (补充) their own school's classes with online lectures from rock-star professors at other institutions.

More and more, this type of learning will become part of college life. \will be able to acquire knowledge globally, across different campuses,\says Ron Kraemer, chief information and digital officer at the University of Not re Dame.

Schools, meanwhile, will take advantage of this setup to conserve their resources. They might develop courses of their own only when they think they can provide a big advantage over other schools' offerings. Otherwise, they might simply adopt a world-beating course that was developed elsewhere, and then put their own stamp on

- 13 -

it by designing assignments, discussions and student-faculty interactions. Already, for example, students at several California State University campuses such as San Jose and Sacramento are taking engineering classes that were developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Textbook

These 10-pound hardcover volumes used to have Psychology 101 or the “Rocks for Jocks” geology class. But this giant bundle, and the profitable publishing industry that produced it, will quickly unravel (瓦解) as professors pick and choose the sections they like best and assemble their own course packs.

The books themselves will stop to be physical volumes and instead will be sources of interactive digital content that include text, videos and simulations (模拟) . In some cases, the material that used to be in a textbook will simply be integrated into the online course platform, where students can watch a lecture, read an essay and do a homework assignment.
