国内许多培训班的写作老师几乎都在给学生传达同样的一件事情，那就是，雅思要想得高分，考生必须用大词、难词，以体现出考生自己的英语功底。比如，好多人告诉考生，你们用influence的时候要用ram ification、repercussion这样的词来取代；你们用poor的时候，要用i mpoverished来取代。这种说法，不仅给考生造成巨大的压力，还给考生带来误解：只要我用大单词，就能得高分，别管句子的对不对。

事情果真如此吗？一个人的英语功底真的是因为他能用难的词、复杂的词、晦涩的词吗？试想一下，一个基础词汇、基础搭配都用不好的考生，怎么可能把晦涩的单词在考试紧张的环境中拼写正确，使用正确呢？如果考生看过考官的高分范文，或者经常阅读国外的期刊，比如《读者文摘》、《纽约时报》甚至《经济学人》，大家不难发现，英语写的好不好，不一定是由于词难，而是你用的词要精巧，说的是否有道理，表达是否清楚，逻辑是否鲜明，句式是否有力。先不说雅思作文评分标准一项里，并没有考生一定要使用很难的词汇才给分的规定，就考试本身而言，雅思鼓励学生能用地道、流畅和富有变化的词汇和句型，来通过具体的论证、逻辑的思维和严谨的写作风格来达到海外留学时用书面语言完成论文的要求。

A child’s education has never been about learning information and basic skills only. It has always included teaching the next generation how to be good members of society. Therefore, this cannot be the responsibility of parents alone.

In order to be a good member of any society the inpidual must obey and respect the rules of their community and share their values. Educating children to understand the need to obey rules and respect others always begins in the home and is widely thought to be the duty of parents. They will certainly be the first to help children to learn what is important in life, how they are expected to behave and what roles they will play in their world.

However, learning to understand and share the value system of a whole society cannot be achieved just in the home. Once a child goes to school, they are entering a wider community where teachers and peers will have just as much influence as their parents do at home. As school, children will experience working and living with people from a whole variety of backgrounds from the wider society. This experience should teach them how to work together with each other and how to contribute to the life of their community.

But to be a valuable member of any community is not like learning a simple skill. It is something that an inpidual goes on learning throughout life and it is the duty of every member of a society to take responsibility for helping the younger generation to become active and able member of that society.
