（1）、reflect后接on或 upon，表示思索、蒙受、招致、博得等意。如： His cowardice（胆怯） reflected nothing but shame on his family.

（2）、reflect的被动结构和过去分词作后置定语时，后接in或 from。如： The mountains are reflected in the water.

（3）、reflect后接宾语从句。如：She reflected（想） that life is short. 练习：

（1）、与感官或情绪有关的动词如：relax, amuse, satisfy,

encourage, inspire, frighten, tire, surprise, move, disappoint, worry, trouble, scare, interest, excite, bore, puzzle, shock, astonish, delight, please等，它们的现在分词与过去分词常作形容词用。-ing形式多用于修饰事物，指事物本身具有的性质，意为“含有某种感觉的”。-ed形式多用于修饰人，指由外界引起的内心活动，意为“人被引起某种感觉”。

（2）、若说明或修饰的名词是face, look, smile, voice, scream等表现人的情感的词，用 –ed型形容词。 练习：

（1）、relief

后接against或from，表示“从……凸起”。如：The hills

stood out in sharp relief against the morning sky.

（2）、relief后接for，表示“为……解除痛苦、解除因……而产生的痛苦”，后作可数名词。如：relief for the victims of flood/ I wish I knew of a relief for neuralgia（神经痛）.

（3）、relief后接from，表示“从……状态中解脱出来、因……而得到解脱”。如：City dwellers （居民）go to the beach to get relief from the heat.

（4）、 relief后接of，表示“替换”。如：the relief of a weary sentry by a replacement；

（5）、relieve的宾语指人时，后接from或of，前强调状态，后强调对象；如：relieve sb from anxiety;/ Your coming relieves me of the bother.

（6）、relieve的宾语指事物、状态时，常后接with或不接介词；常用被动结构，后接against，表示“在……的衬托下”；如：She relieved the dullness of the evening with a few songs./ The mountain is relieved against the blue sky.

（7）、relieve后接at或不定式，表示“因……而感到宽慰”；后接of，表示“被免除（职务）”。如：I was relieved at the news./ He was relieved of his post. 练习：

280、remain something to be done

（1）、remain

本身已含有“持续”之意，所以在表示“依旧”的含

义时，不必加continue 或still。

（2）、remain 作系动词时，不用进行式和被动式，后接形容词、名词、分词和介词短语；remain 后跟不定式表示“留待、尚待”的意思，说明说话人对事情没把握。如：It remains to her to do it；

（3）、remain 作“停留、保持、仍是”讲时，与stay 同义，一般可换用。如：remain/ stay here until I return；但stay home 中的stay 不可换用remain；表示“剩下、还有”时只用remain。

（4）、remain作名词用复数，表示剩余物或遗体，后接单复数形式均可。如：The remains of the meal is/ are kept here.

（5）、There remains仍然有，为There is的变形，类似结构有： There didn’t seem …好像没有 / There appears (to be) …好像有 / There used to be …曾经有 / There lives (stands, lies, comes) …有 / There is (are) said to be …据说有； 练习：
