Unit 6 Pets
一、教材分析
本单元围绕着谈论“宠物”来展开听、说、读、写的训练。通过阅读一篇对于养宠物的两种不同观点的文章,让学生学会从正反两方面全面去正确看待每一件事。语法方面主要学习副词修饰动词以及副词的比较级和最高级的用法。 具体课型、课时安排如下: 单元板块 Reading Listening Grammar Speaking Writing More practice Study skills/Project Culture corner and Self -assessment
二、教学对象分析
1. 学生对“宠物”这个话题比较感兴趣,这种源于生活的题材对中学生也很有吸引力,
容易唤起他们求知的欲望,有利于开展本单元的各项听、说、读、写任务。
2. 学生在平时的学习已经接触到副词修饰动词以及副词的比较级和最高级,但学生对
其用法是不甚了解的,在本单元作专项系统的学习。在教学中教师需要可学的引导,并结合实际运用重点操练。 三、单元教学目标

They have no choice but to keep their dogs in small spaces. 语法 读(reading) 1. Learn how to use adverbs with verbs. 2. Learn how to use the comparative and superlative of adverbs. 1. Read an article about two different opinions on keeping pet dogs. 2. 熟练朗读及背诵课文。 3. 运用课文中所学,谈论正反两方面观点的文章。 听(listening) 说(speaking) 1.Listen to a conversation about different kinds of pets. 1. Learn to make and respond to complaints. 2. Talk about problems caused by pets. 写(writing) 1.Write a short article about what animal makes the best pet. 2. 能笔头回答课文内容提出的问题。 3. 能用本单元学习的重点词汇、句型进行造句。 2. 思想情感目标:
1)通过谈论“宠物”的相关话题,使学生树立保护宠物的意识。
2)结合课文的内容,引导学生通过对养宠物正反两种观点的陈述,让学生学会从正反两方面去看待身边的事物。 3. 能力发展目标:
1)能够在听、说、读、写等语言综合实践活动中运用本单元的重点词汇、句型与语法。 2)在学习中提高交流和传递信息的能力,在写作中正确运用连词使文章更连贯和流畅。 3)通过指导学生在模拟交际中运用所学的知识,培养学生探究学习、合作学习、自主学习的能力。
四、单元教学重点
1. 学生熟练掌握重点词语,词组及句型。
2.指导学生利用所学句型正确表达思想、进行交际活动。
3.语法方面主要学习副词的用法以及副词的比较级和最高级并在实践中熟练掌握它们。 五、单元教学难点

1.初步接触略读(skimming)和找读(scanning)这两种阅读策略。 2.学会在阅读过程中通过上下文来猜测生词含义的方法。
3.关注对话中特殊疑问句的提问和相应的回答,以便准确记录相关信息。 八、媒体的选择与设计
1.充分利用和发挥基本的教学媒体,如录音机,教师的body language、板书的作用。 2.适时、合理地使用多媒体,增大课堂的容量,更好地辅助教学。 九、各课时教学内容安排建议 课时 教学内容及课型 第1课时 Reading A 新授课 教学目标及简单教学环节设计 1. Teaching material analysis: Reading A The African Ghost Fish It is an input based and intensive reading class. The main task is reading comprehension. 2. Teaching objectives: Knowledge goals: 1. Through different reading activities to help students understand the passage better. 2. To make student learn the new words and expressions of this lesson. Ability goals: 1. Through different reading methods to make students master different reading skills. 2. To get students have the ability of thinking individually. Affections: 1. To develop students’ cooperation spirit. 2. To encourage student’s guessing spirit. 3.To lead students to find out the truth. 二、教学设计: Step 1 Warming up 1. Ask a few Ss soome questions about pets a) Do you have a pet? b) If you do not have a pet, do you want one?Why or why not? c) Why do people keep dogs? 3
2:Cartoon talk Let the Ss look at a cartoon picture on page 81 and say something about pets Step 2 Leading in 1.Show some pictures about pets and ask students if they know about them, if they know please say something about them. 2.Ask Ss to finish exercise A on page 82 . Then chect the answers. Today we are going to pets。 Step 3:Pre-reading 1) Ask Ss to look at the pictures , the title,the introduction and the sub-headings of the article on page 83. Then finish exercise B on page 82. 2) Vocabulary presentation: Get Ss to learn some new words by showing some pictures. 3) Cocabulary exercise:Get Ss to finish exercise C1and C2 on page 84 to consolidate the new words. Step 4:While-reading 1)First reading Tell the students that they are going to read an article about two different opinions on keeping pet dogs.Ask the students to skim it on page 83. Let students think of the following questions while reading: a) What do you think the article is about? b)Who likes keeping a pet dog and who does not? c) Why is keeping a pet dog a good idea? d) Why is keeping a pet dog a bad idea? 2)Tell Ss to read the text quickly and finish exercise (双语报:精品课文题目). 3)Second reading: Read the text again and complete exercise D1 and D2 on page 85. 4)Chect the answers. Step 5 Post reading 1 Invite some more able students to retell the article. 2 *If time permitted, ask the students to tell some other interesting pets they know. Step 7 Homework 1) Go over what you’ve learned today. 第2课时 Listening 一、定位: 1.input-based,训练各种听与说的语言微技能,并给予听的学习策略的指导。 Objectives: 1.Teach the Ss how to listen for specific information about different kinds of pets 2.Teach the Ss how to take notes while listening to a conversation. 二、教学环节设计: Step 1 Pre-listening a.Tell Ss that they are going to do some listening exercises. Ask some of the Ss what they will do before listening. b.Learn the study tips with Ss by asking Ss to read the tips on their book carefully.(Pay attention to wh-questions when listening. c.Ask Ss to read the table on page 86 carefully and predict what kind of information they could fill in the blanks. Ss can discuss in groups and write down their answers with pencils. d.Ask Ss what they must pay attention to when they write. Eg: their spelling, the first letter of the word, how to write a number etc. Step 2 While-listening Play the recording for Ss to listen and complete the table. Play the recording again for Ss to listen and ask them to check their spelling. Check the answers and see how well they did in the prediction. Step 3 Post-listening a) Give Ss some time and get them to summarize the skills of completing a table of information and finish the related listening exercise in Book B. Step 4: Summary: ask the ss to conclude what we’ve learned today. 5
Step 5 Homework Finish Students Times of Unit 1 listening exercise. 第3.第4课时 language 1. Teaching materials analysis: Language of Unit 6 It is practice-based class. The main task is to help Ss know how to use Adv. correctly. This class is carried out with practice. 2. Teaching objectives. 1. To help Ss understand and use the Adv. correctly. 2. To guide the Ss find out the regular patterns, meanings and usage of the Adv., and also to make Ss use them in communication. 3. To develop Ss’ ability of self-study. 4. To develop Ss’ cooperation and research spirit. 3. Teaching procedure Step 1 Revision Check the answer of their homework. Step 2 Grammar learning-----Adv 1. Try to find out the adverbs in the given passage. 2. Present some examples of adj. and adv. Require Ss try to find out the rules of the changing adj. into adv. Then guide them to sum it as the followed. 形容词变副词的规律口诀 一般直接加, “元e”去e加, “辅y”改i加, “le”结尾e改y。 3. Give some examples of the special adverbs which have the same forms as the adj. 4. Ask Ss to find out some other special adverbs. Step 3 Practice 1. Look back at the story on page 66 and complete the answers with a verb and an adverb. 1. How do Happy’s tanks of Ghost Fish sell? They ______ _______. 2. How should the children sit? They should _______ ________. 3. How should the children watch the fish tank? They should _______ it ________. 4. How did the children leave the room? They _______ ________ from the room. 2. Ask Ss to finish the exercise B1 and B2. Trouble at

Happy’s pet shop. 3. Ask Ss to discuss their answers in groups and ask them present their answers. 4. Check their answers and explain some difficult points if Ss have any question. Step 4 Competition (Optional) Have a competition between boys and girls. See who can find out more and the adverbs in the passage on page 83on reading A Step 5:The comparative and superative of adverbs 1. 副词的比较级和最高级的构成 副词和形容词一样,也有原级、比较级和最高级三个等级。其构成方式有规则变化和 不规则变化两种情况。规则变化的一般规律是:单音节词的比较级和最高级在词尾加-er或 -est; 多音节词以及-ly结尾的副词(early除外),前面须加more 或most. 不规则的变化式只能采用“各个击破”的办法去记忆。 3副词的比较级的用法 1)单独使用: Try to do better next time. 下次争取干好一点。 I had seen the film only a few days earlier. 我是几天前才看的这部电影。 He’ll come back sooner or later. 他迟早会回来的。 2)和than一起使用: He swims better than I do. 他游泳游得比我好。 He works less than he used to. 他工作的时间比以前少了。 Can you do any better than that? 你能不能干的好一些? 3) 比较级前可有状语修饰: You must work much faster. 你必须大大加快干活的速度。 He walked no further. 他没在往前走。 4. as…as和not so…as结构 这两个结构也可结合副词使用: 1) as…as 可用在肯定句中,表示 “像…一样”,后面的副词要用原级: She can run as fast as a deer. 她能跑的像鹿一样快。 They work as hard as you do. 他们工作像你一样努力。 2)在否定句中,as…as和so…as都可以用: I don’t go there as much as I used. 我现在到那里不象过去那么多了。 3)这种句子中也可以有一个表示程度的状语: I don’t speak half as (so) well as you. 我讲的不及你的一半

To learn how to complain and how to respond the complaint. 2. To learn how to talk about problems caused by pets. 4. Teaching methods. Work in groups, discuss and work in pairs. 5. Teaching procedure. Step 1 Warm-up. Play a video of a conversation about making complaints in a shop. Step 2 Speaking. 1. Show the picture about a complaint to the Ss. Deal with the new words in the dialogue. 2. Show the dialogue. Get the Ss to listen to the dialogue and answer some questions. 3. Ask Ss to sum up the expressions about making and responding to a complaint. 4. Give some pictures to guide Ss to make a dialogue themselves according to the model. And act the dialogue in the class in groups. Step 3 Writing. Step 1 Revision Ask Ss to read the text on page 92 and then remind them of the article format. 1. Show a picture of a dog. Then the teacher describes it first. And give some useful expressions about how to describe a thing. 2. Give some minutes to Ss. Guide them to imagine something unusual and write a story according to the questions which the teacher gave. 3. Check the passage in the class, correct the mistakes in the passage. Step 4: Summary: Get Ss to summarize what they have learned today. Step 5: Homework : Do some related exercise in Student Times.
