Some people would argue that what one has gone through is important to being a motivational speaker, but an 11-year-old Pakistani kid is showing that all you really need is an inspirational speech and confidence.

At just 11 years of age, Hammad Safi has accomplished what most of us won’t be able to do in a lifetime. He is the youngest motivational speaker in Pakistan, and probably the world, a free writer, TV anchor and a lecturer at a university, where he teaches students twice his age. He has been referred to as a “super kid”, a “child extraordinaire”, “motivational guru” and even “the little genius of Pakistan”.

“He is not an ordinary child. I have seen abilities in him. That’s why I have appointed special teachers for him,” Safi’s father, Abdul Rehman Khan, said, “I want him to become a special leader. I’m very proud… F or his abilities, for his intelligence.

Abdul’s description may seem exaggerated (夸张的)–he is Hammad’s father after all – but the boy is indeed capable beyond his years. How many 11-year-olds do you know that can command the attention of thousands of adults while speaking on serious topics like success, life challenges or responsibility? Hammad can, and he does it with ease, relying on his great charm, practiced hand gestures and a confidence that attracts his audiences greatly.

“A few months ago I was really disappointed with life… I was thinking about suicide, because there are no jobs and no success in life,” a student said, “Then I saw a movie of Hammad Safi. I thought if an 11-year-old child can do anything, why can’t I?”

That is what makes Safi so special, his power to get his message across and inspire people much older than him.

Many in Pakistan are astonished by Hammad’s self-confidence and his ability to lecture on important subjects, but there are also those who believe that this role is depriving the boy of his childhood.

24. Which statement about Hammad Safi is not correct?

A. His audience is much younger than he is.

B. He is the youngest motivational speaker in the world.

C. People in Pakistan think highly of Hammad Safi.

D. His father is also proud of him very much.

25. What can’t you learn from Hammad Safi’s speech?

A. We can realize the importance of responsibility.

B. We can get confidence to deal with life challenges.

C. We can remember the happy memory of childhood.

D. We can understand the relationship between confidence and success.

26. What does the underlined word “depriving” in the last paragraph mean?

A. To guarantee that something will happen.

B. To make somebody imagine.

C. To take away something by force.

D. To give up something all by oneself.

27. What is the main idea of the passage?

A. It introduces a very famous speaker.

B. It tells that people in Pakistan are living without motivation.

C. It tells us how to give people con fidence.

D. It introduces a young motivational speaker.

By now, we are all aware that social media has had a tremendous influence on our culture, in business, on the world-at-large. Social media websites revolutionized the way people communicate and socialize on the Web. However, aside from seeing your friends’ new baby on Facebook, or reading about Justin Bieber’s latest conflict with the law on Twitter, what are some of the real influences?

Social networks offer the opportunity for people to re-connect with their old friends and acquaintances, make new friends, share ideas and pictures, and many other activities. Users can keep pace with the latest global and local developments, and participate in campaigns and activities of their choice. Professionals use social media sites like

LinkedIn to enhance their career and business development. Students can work together wit h their peers to improve their academic and communication skills.

Unfortunately, there are a few downsides too to social networking. If you are not careful, immoral people can target you for cyber bullying and disturbance on social sites. School children, young girls, and women can fall victim to online attacks which can create tension and suffering. If you are a victim of cyber bullying, do not take it lying down, but try to take appropriate legal action against the attacker.

Many companies have blocked social networks as addicted employees can distract themselves on such sites, instead of focusing on work. In fact, studies show that British companies have lost billions of dollars per year in productivity because of social media addiction among employees.

Also, what you carelessly post on the Net can come back to trouble you. Revealing(泄露) personal information on social sites can make users vulnerable(易受伤害的)to crimes like identity theft, stalking, etc. Many companies perform a background check on the Web before hiring an employee. If a potential employee has posted something embarrassing on social media, it can greatly affect their chances of getting the job. The same holds true for our relationships too, as our loved ones and friends may get to know if we post something undesirable on social networks.

Social media has its advantages and drawbacks as each coin has two sides. It is up to each user to use social sites wisely to enhance their professional and social life, and exercise caution to ensure they do not fall victim to online dangers.

28. Paragraph 2 mainly shows that social networks _________.

China became the first country to clone a monkey using non-reproductive(非生殖的)cells, reducing the need to raise lab monkeys and paving the way for more accurate, effective and affordable animal tests for new drugs, scientists said on Thursday .

By December, the Institute of N euroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences had created two clone macaques(猕猴)named “Zhong Zhong” and “Hua Hua” by nuclear transferring of somatic cells(体细胞) - any cell in the organism other than reproductive cells.

Tetra, a monkey born in 1999, is the world’s first cloned monkey, but it was done by using a simpler method called embryo splitting(胚胎分割), and cannot be genetically changed to suit the experimental need. Cloning a monkey using somatic cells has been a world-class challenge because a monkey that shares its genetic makeup, and therefore all of

its complexity, with humans.

For drug and other lab tests, scientists have to purchase monkeys from all over the world, which is costly and bad for the envir onment, and produces inaccurate results because each monkey might have different genes. By cloning monkey using somatic cells, we can massively cultivate large numbers of genetically identical offspring (后代)in a short amount of time, and we can even change their genes to suit our needs. This can save time, cut down experiment costs, and produce more accurate results, leading to more effective medicine.

Sun Qiang, director of the non-human primate research facility at the institute, said most of the drug trials are currently done on lab mice. However, drugs that work on mice might not work or even have severe side effects on humans because the two species are so different.

“Monkeys and humans are both primates(灵长类), so they are much closely related and testing on monkeys is supposed to be as effective as testing on humans,” he said. “This is especially useful in testing drugs for neural (神经的)diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, metabolic syndrome (代谢综合症)and immune system diseases, and tumors,” he added.

“This ac hievement will help China lead the world research in the international science projects related to neural mapping of primate brains,” he said. “However, bio-labs in the United States, Japan, and European countries are also very capable, and they will quickly catch up with China after the monkey cloning technology is made public,” Sun added.

“This means we have to innovate continuously and work extremely hard this year to stay ahead.” he said.

32. Which of the following is the most important factor in clonin g macaques named “Zhong Zhong” and “Hua Hua”?

A. Reproductive cells.

B. Genetic makeup.

C. Embryo splitting.

D. Somatic cells.

33. Why is cloning monkeys so difficult?

A. Because it is bad for our environment.

B. Because each monkey might have different genes.

C. Because monkeys’ genetic makeup is as complicated as humans.

D. Because it is too expensive to work on their genetic makeup.

34. What is the main idea of Paragraph 6?

A. The cure for neural diseases.

B. The process of cloning monkeys.

C. The significance of cloning monkeys.

D. The close relations between monkeys and humans.

35. What can we infer from this passage?

A. More effective medicine will be produced.

B. Drug trials on lab mice will be abandoned.

C. China is the first country to have cloned monkeys.

D. China will definitely stay ahead of the world in cloning.
