My seven-year-old daughter Rachel was a teacher of kindness today. I wanted to share her beautiful kindness story with all of you.

We were invited to her school today by her teacher Miss Luis for a special ceremony. Her school has a program called Character Counts and it has 6 characters –trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and confidence. Once a month they recognize one student in the school who exemplifies(作为典型) one certain character. Today the focus was on caring, which represents being kind, showing your care, expressing gratitude, forgiving others and helping people in need. Well, as you may have guessed, Rachel was the honoree(接受荣誉的人).

Miss Luis called her up to the front and read many kind things that Rachel had done. What a positive role model she was! Her classmates then followed with many specific examples of Rachel’s kindness and how she touched the lives of others. Listening to all of the kindness stories she did at her school was wonderful and I could not have been prouder of my kind-hearted daughter. As part of her recognition, she also received a new bicycle.

But her kindness didn’t stop there. As we went to the car to load her new bike, she decided to give the bike to one of her friends who did not have one.

As a parent, I am always trying to be a good influence and teach my children that kindness is the most important in life. When you see that they truly get it, there is no better feeling. Today I saw that Rachel not only got it but also was a teacher

of kindness in her school. I couldn’t be happier. 8. Rachel was a teacher of kindness because ______.

B. Rachel knew that kindness is the most important in life. C. Rachel was kind-hearted

D. Rachel gave the bicycle to her friend.

11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Learn to be grateful to others. B. Show other people more love C. A special ceremony D. A friend in need is a friend indeed

I remember the first time that I was extremely happy. I was about 8 years old when for the first time, there was a computer in the classroom. I remember that my teacher allowed each student to take turns to play various educational games on the computer. One day, I found the source code (编码) for one of these games. Without knowing or being taught any programming language, I was able to figure out some of the BASIC code. I just gave myself an infinite number of lives in the game, so I could continue playing it forever. This was also my first introduction to algebra(代数学), and I didn't even know it at the time. This was a decisive moment in my life. I was quite excited because of what I was learning and what I was able to do. As a result, I was enthusiastic for the rest of my life about self learning and computers, and I was quite happy doing them too.

I've noticed that people who are truly content with life are enthusiastic about what they do. This enthusiasm, along with good health, is the key to being happy. It also leads to self-confidence and content in life too. It may also lead to success, wealth, and achievements.

Success, wealth, or achievements can also bring some people happiness, yet I know plenty of rich people who are unhappy. I know many people with successful businesses that are not happy with what they are doing. I know people who continuously buy themselves new toys, such as cars, computers, and televisions, yet never seem content for too long. Please remember, happiness is the journey of life, not the destination. 12. What can we know from Paragraph 1?

A. The author's experience in his childhood changed his life. B. The BASIC code of the computer is not difficult. C. Creative thinking is necessary for every child. D. The author has a great talent for algebra. 13. The underlined word “infinite” means ________.

A. small B. normal C. limitless D. big

14. The author wants to tell us through his experience in the school that ________.

A. young people are fearless B. where there's a will, there's a way C. children are the hope of the future D. interest is the best teacher 15. We can infer from the last paragraph that ________.

A. wealth can't bring people any happiness and comfort

B. being enthusiastic about what you do is more important than wealth C. one will feel unhappy once he has gained all the things that he wants D. people who are rich and successful in career generally feel unhappy 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
