傲慢与偏见的读后感

Reaction to “Pride and Prejudice”

Today, I will talk about the reaction to the book “Pride and Prejudice”.

This book is a great masterpiece of Jane Austen, a famous British writer, the theme of which is the choice people make for marriage partners, so is in Pride and Prejudice. Mrs. Bonnet has no other wish if her five daughters can get married as soon as possible with someone wealthy. At a dancing ball, Mr. Bingley can not help falling in love with Miss Jane because of her stunning beauty. Mrs. Bonnet is so excited that she can not help declaring publicly that she will have a daughter married soon, which frightens Mr. Bingley away. Mr. Collins, a distance nephew of Mr. Bonnet, comes to ask a marriage. And after receiving the hint from Mrs. Bonnet that Jane already has an admirer, Mr. Collins turns to Elizabeth without wasting a minute and to Miss Charlotte Lucas two days later after being refused by Elizabeth. At the same time, Lydia finally marries Mr. Wickham, though the marriage is built on the basis of ten thousand pounds. And when Elizabeth hears Darcy’s explanations and learned about what Darcy did for her, she dispels misunderstanding and prejudice to him, thus concluding the happy marriage with him.

This is a common story, a beautiful heroine and a handsome

hero,of course with a romantic love song. But if it just depends on this, it can’t become one of the world-famous books. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane has denounced the elements of marriage and society that she found distasteful. These are the conclusions of her observation of the people in her world. However in her writing, Jane has also reflected her own enjoyment in life among these people with and without their faults.

From the book, I prefer the characters of Darcy and Elizabeth. Though Darcy at first is in arrogance and lofty, he changes himself for Elizabeth. Personally, it is Darcy’s fault that he convinces Bingley that Jane doesn’t love him, thus causing the part of Bingley and Jane. And to some degree, it deepens Elizabeth’s misunderstanding to Darcy. But I think Bingley should bear some responsibility because it is his doubt to his love that leads to the part with Jane. And Darcy does so just for his friend Bingley though his judgment slips. But when he finds his love to Elizabeth, he can express his love courageously, though he is refused by Elizabeth. Besides, he offers ten thousand pounds, which became the basis of Lydia and Wickham’s marriage. In addition, he gives the military rank to Wickham, who once deceived his sister and persuaded her to

elope with him. Darcy doesn’t want Elizabeth to know such thing. He does so just because he loves her and he doesn’t want any requite or takes this opportunity to dispel Elizabeth’s misunderstanding to him. These all show that Darcy is a kind and humane man and his constancy to love.

I believe Elizabeth is unique. She owns her views and behaves properly. When Collins expresses his love and wants to marry her, she can promptly refuse. Furthermore, when Darcy’s aunt arrogantly puts forward her requirement that Elizabeth should reject Darcy, she firmly turns down her offensive requirement. From it, we can see that Elizabeth has her own persistence of love and never stop trying. Of course at first Elizabeth also displays significant pride. Though not influenced by economic status, Elizabeth is most proud of her ability of perception: although it is her ill perception which causes her to misjudge Darcy and also Wickham. When Elizabeth hears of Wickham's accusations of Darcy, she trusts the negative perception of him, and mistakenly views Darcy's confidence as conceit. Fortunately she finally eliminated her prejudice to him when she got an acquaintance of what Darcy did for her. Because they give up prejudice to each other, they can have a happy marriage.

傲慢与偏见的读后感

From the story of Darcy and Elizabeth, I also learn that we can judge in the way he likes, like what we like and hate what we hate, but we should be objective when we meet external world. We should consider things roundly, not just partially. Otherwise, we easily prejudice others.
