15. genetic essentialism

Genetic essentialism is an oversimplified hypothesis that genes determine and account for complex human abilities and behavior traits, and thus human beings are reduced to the mere products of their genes. Genetic essentialism is dependent upon one particular belief fundamental to western culture. This is the belief that understanding can be gained by reducing an object of knowledge to its “essence”.
