questions. For each question there are four suggested answers marked A, B, C, and D. You should choose the best answer. Then mark your answer by blackening the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a pencil.
Passage One
Questions 56 to 60 are based on the following passage.
Going shopping seems easy but actually it takes a lot of learning, especially in American. In the fact, many Americans who are not so well-off often shop at “sales” or at special stores that sell things at low prices, which you may find interesting. In American, the important rule of dressing is that one should change his\her clothes every day. For example, in an American college, neither professors nor students are seen in the same clothes two days in a row. So you may find it necessary to buy more clothes than China. While you are shopping in the States, you will discover that prices range considerablely from time to time. The purchase of used, second-hand clothing, furniture, or other household articles may be an excellent way of saving money. Most second-hand clothes are often pretty good quality. If you are going to settle down in the states and want some furniture, you may go to a “loan closet”, where furniture rents at low costs, or you may also go to a “furniture exchange” place in the community.
四川师范大学成都学院
Sheets, blankets and other bedclothes go on sale in most communities twice a year. Advertisements for “white sales”, that is, sales on bed linen, towels, ets., often appear in January, as well as in May, June or July. Once or twice every season, there will be “garage sales”, where you can get almost anything, from a yacht to a pair of shoes, at low prices. Prices at “discount stores” and “thrift shops” are also as low as you can imagine.

Passage Two
Question 61 to 65 are based on the following passage.
Like any relationship, a marriage requires effort and commitment. After the period of time leading up to marriage, living together can be both challenging and rewarding. Honest communication, friendship, and respect are important ingredients for a happy and fulfilling marriage. The elements can be worked on, and in turn, reward effort. It is wise to think of marriage as a marvelous living being between two people, needing nourishment and retuning nourishment.
Friendship
四川师范大学成都学院
Friendship means everything from simple joy in another’s company to deep respect for one another’s feelings. People need to be accepted, and to be able to accept one another without judgment; it’s the key to personal growth. Individuals grow, so does the marriage. If I can tell my husband exactly how I am feeling---even if I am feeling really bad about myself, he can accept me, and I can do the same to him, then we can grow and become better people in this safe environment. However, this isn’t an easy ideal to live up to. Two Ways
We enter marriage as individuals, unique and complicated products of different life experiences. No two families are the same, and people come into marriage with different ideas on everything from money to child rearing. My father was very generous with money, believing that whatever you gave away came back to you. One day, a very poor person came to our door, and my father handed him the last few pounds in his pocket, much to my mother’s anger. My father went back to his work---he repaired the furniture, and started ripping a chair apart. I would have to say that my father’s philosophy influenced mine, whereas my husband comes from a much more thrifty(节约的) family. Even after thirty years of marriage, we’d still have to work things out with regard to money. In any marriage, there’s a “my way” and a “your way”, and the best is to find an “our way”, a balanced compromise.

Passage Three
Question 66 to 70 are based on the following passage.
It’s five minutes before the exam and you are in a state of fear. You just have to pass it, but now? You didn’t even open the book the night before and you hear a voice in your head saying “Cheat, cheat……” So what are you going to do, ignore it and fail or go for it? It’s a tough decision many students must make.
Most young people believe that cheating is wrong. However, they have cheated at least once in their high school years. So, why do they do it? Are they too lazy to study? Perhaps, it’s not as simple as that. According to some experts, one main reason why students cheat is that they see their friends get away with it.
It has never been easier to cheat than it is today. With all the technology available, students needn’t cheat by looking over their shoulders anymore. They use mobile phones to send answers to each other during a test. There is also the Internet, with hundreds of websites giving tips on the art of cheating in exams.
Obviously, if you get caught cheating, you fail the exam. But it doesn’t really matter whether you get caught or not. What’s important is that it’s wrong. How can you be proud of something you’ve achieved through cheating? In the end, it’s not about deceiving your teachers and your parents, but about fooling yourself that you can do something you really can’t.

Passage Four
Question 71 to 75 are based on the following passage.
In adulthood, the things that bring great joy----birth, love, and marriage---also bring responsibility and the risk of love. Love may not last, loved ones die. For adults, happiness is complicated.
My dictionary defines happy as “lucky” or “fortunate”. But I think a better
definition of happiness is “the capability of enjoyment”. The more we can enjoy what we have, the happier we are. It’s easy to neglect the pleasure we get from loving and being loved, the company of friends, the freedom to live where we please, even good health.
I added up my little moments of pleasure yesterday. First, there was great bliss when I had the house to myself. I spent a whole morning writing, which I love. When the kids came home, I enjoyed their noise after the quiet of the day.
You never know where happiness will appear next. When I asked friends what makes them happy, some mentioned seemingly tiny things. One of my friends loves the telephone. “Every time it rings, I know someone is thinking about me.”
We all experience moments like these. But few of us regard them as happiness
