Two brothers from Miami, Bill and Simone Bultler, spent sixty-six days in a life-raft (救生艇) in the seas of Central America after their boat sank.
Twenty-one days after they left Panama . In Siboney, they met some whales. “They started to hit the side of the boat,” said Bill, “and then suddenly we heard water.” Two minutes later, the boat was sinking. They jumped into the life-raft and watched the boat go under the water. For twenty days they had tins of food, biscuits, and bottles of water. They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water — two things which saved their lives. They caught eight to ten fish a day and ate them raw (生的). Then the line broke. “So we had no more fish until something very strange happened. Some sharks (鲨鱼) came to feed, and the fish under the raft were afraid and came to the surface. I caught them with my hands.” About twenty ships passed them, but no one saw them. After fifty days at sea their life-raft was beginning to break up. Then suddenly it was all over. A fishing boat saw them and picked them up. They couldn’t stand up. So the captain carried them onto his boat and took them to Costa Rica. Their two months at sea was over.

Nowadays, most of us live a busy life. What do you do to keep yourself relaxed? Besides spending time with family, having a glass of wine with friends or reading a book, how about a hobby?
Personally, I’m a collector. I like blue and white pieces the best—blue and white anything! Plates, jars(罐子), vases, cups, bowls—
I find collecting to be a fun and inspirational(鼓舞人心的) hobby. In many ways, it’s like a puzzle I’m never tired of solving. I look high and low for new pieces to add to my collection. I can often be found visiting Marshell’s, looking over their inexpensive offerings. In fact, I found one of I’ve mixed inexpensive pieces from Marshell’s with more expensive finds. A lot of times, it’s the piece I’m not looking for that falls into my lap; I find a way to make it part of my blue and white family. What I love about my collection is that when I get inspired, I can move them around the house, mix and match and make things look fresh and new.
Ever since I was a little girl, blue has been my favourite colour. I think I got it from my aunt in Mexico. Some of my earliest memories are visiting her in Mexico and sitting on a chair in her kitchen, which had blue and white tiles (瓷砖) from the floor to the ceiling. I would spend countless hours admiring all the beautiful blue and white plates and shiny blue tiles around her kitchen. Once I had a home, I began to build my own blue and white collection. 5. We can infer(推断)that in the writer’s opinion, _______. A. having a hobby can help us relax
B. reading a book alone is really boring
C. keeping a hobby is not easy for most of people D. having a glass of wine with friends is not a good idea
6. What does the underlined (划线)sentence in Paragraph 2 probably mean? _______ A. Collecting things requires a lot of money. B. People always want less than they need. C. People may not know what they want to collect. D. Once you start collecting things, it’s hard to stop.
7. In the third paragraph “favorite ”, what’s the meaning of this word? A. 爱好 B. 喜欢 C. 最喜欢 D. 憎恨 B. 8. What’s the last paragraph(段落) mainly about? _______ A. When the writer started collecting things.
B. When the writer started liking blue and white things. C. What kind of things the writer collected first.
D. Why the writer liked the blue and white things so much. C
The police do many things for us. They help keep our things and us safe. They help keep cars moving safely. They take care of people who are hurt. Then they see these people get to a doctor.
The police go around town to see that everything is all right. They get around town in many ways. Some of them walk or go by car. In some big cities, some of the police ride on horses. It is strange to see these animals in the street.
As they go around town, the police help people. Sometimes they find lost children. They
take the children home. If the police see a fight, people will ask the police how to get to a place in town. The police can always tell the people which way to go. They know all the streets and roads well.
Some police stand at crossings. They tell the cars when to go and when to stop. They make sure that the cars do not go too fast. They help children cross the street. They also help people who can't walk too well.
