Face the music

面对音乐，似乎是一件很美妙的事情。如果你这么理解的话，就错了，在英语中face the music和“享受音乐的那种美妙感觉”相差十万八千里，它表达的恰恰是和“享受音乐”相反的一种感觉“不得不接受惩罚、承担后果”。 为什么用face the music来表达这个意思呢？这个短语最早可以追溯到19世纪中期。有一些词源学方面的权威认为，这个短语来源于剧场。去过大型剧场的朋友一定知道，在舞台前方往往有一个乐池，乐队就坐在乐池中为台上表演的演员们伴奏。演员们在舞台上表演时，就直接面对着乐池中的乐队，face the music可能就是由此而来的。 在舞台上，演员经常会由于紧张或怯场而造成忘词等尴尬的局面，只要音乐一响，演员就没有任何选择的余地，只能去face the music（必须承受出现的局面）。所以对于演员来说，音乐响起时，只能“硬着头皮上”了！所以也就是“不得不承担、不得不面对”。 两个例句：

Couch Potato

电视中我们经常可以看到这样一种人，手拿着一袋薯片，躺卧在沙发上，聚精会神地看着无聊电视节目的胖子，还一边不停地傻笑，这样的人我们一般就用couch potato来形容(并非专门用在胖人身上)！
