Kung Fu is commonly known as the Chinese martial arts, the origins of which can be traced back to the needs of self-defense, hunting activities and military training in ancient China. It is one of the Chinese traditional sports and all people, old and young, often practice it. It has gradually evolved into a unique element of Chinese culture. As a national treasure of China, there are hundreds of different styles for Kung Fu, which is the most practiced martial arts in the world. Some of styles imitate the movements of animals, and some are inspired by Chinese philosophy, myths and legends.
In the city of Weifang, Shandong province, kites are regarded as not only toys but also the symbols of the culture of this city. Weifang is known as “the City of the Kite”, and it has had a long history of nearly two thousand four hundred years in flying the kite. It is said that Mo-tse, one of the ancient Chinese philosophers, spent three years in making the first kite of the world, but the kite fell and broke on the first day of flying. It is also believed that the kite was invented by the ancient Chinese carpenter Luban. It is said that his kite was made of wood and bamboo, flying for three days before landing on the ground.
The Chinese Internet communities are developing at the highest speed in the world. There were about 420 million netizens in China in 2010 and this numbers keeps increasing rapidly. The Chinese knot was originally invented by Chinese handicraftsmen. After hundreds of years of constant improvement, it has become an elegant and colorful art and handicraft. In ancient times, people used it to record events, while now it is mainly used for decorative purposes. In Chinese, the word \knot is often used as a gift or an ornament to pray for good luck or ward off evil spirits. This form of handicrafts was handed down from generation to generation and has become increasingly popular in China and around the world.
In China, calligraphy occupies a very important position in the field of traditional art. Calligraphy has a history lasting for more than 2,000 years. There are five main ways of writing and each needs different techniques. To practice calligraphy requires the Four Treasures of the Study. Calligraphy is considered to be an art form requiring inner peace. Today, although various modern ways of writing have come up, calligraphy is still practiced often as a hobby. Nowadays, it has also become more and more popular among westerners.
