My dad left me a treasure when he died. It wasn’t a house or a car. It wasn’t cash or gold. It wasn’t bonds(债券) or bank accounts. In the eyes of the world my Dad died a poor man. He was a simple mechanic (机修工) who worked hard to support his family. My Dad’s treasure rather was in a thousand wonderful memories that he gave me over the course of his life.
One particular treasure stands out in my mind today. I was just a boy playing in the backyard of my dad’s friend’s house while my Dad spent the whole afternoon under the ol d car trying to get it running again. It seemed to take hours and I wasn’t sure he could bring the ancient auto back to life again this time. At long last, though, he closed the hood (引擎盖) and turned the key in the engine. There was a sweet smile of satisfaction on his face as the engine started. There was a joy in his eye when he shook his head and refused to accept anything for his work. And there was quiet happiness in his voice as we drove back home that day. This memory made a home in my heart and became a priceless pearl (珍珠) for my soul to cherish.
Time and time again my Dad showed me that a good life, a kind life, a giving life and a healthy life was created one choice at a time. Not all of his choices were the right ones, but most of them were. He did the best he could. He lived the best he could. And he helped to bring out the best in me too. As I look back into that treasure of memories my Dad left me, I realize that each one of them inspired me to live and to love: one choice at a time.
How do you build a better world: one choice at a time. How do you live a long life: one choice at a time. How do you make Earth more like Heaven: one choice at a time. May all of your choices be driven by love, inspired by joy, and guided by God. And may all of your choices bring memories of happiness to those around you.

Making greener choices and encouraging healthy lifestyles can promote your health and benefit the environment. Here are some guidelines to follow:
Choose foods thoughtfully
Americans have never had such a variety or abundance of food to choose from.Besides so many choices, we now hear about our “food print”, the amount of land needed to supply one person’s nutritional needs for a year.Do we buy cherry tomatoes from Mexico or tomatoes grown locally in a hothouse? Do we get the Granny Smiths from the farmers’ market or the supermarket? Is organic produce healthier for us and the planet?
These are very complex issues that require analysis of many criteria, including the energy used in producing and transporting the food, as well as the type of soil and methods of raising the food.
Despite the complexities, there are some general guidelines you can follow. For instance, eat less meat or eat low on the food chain.Your doctor may have recommended you to restrict your consumption of red meat because of its too much fat content.Beyond that, there are environmental reasons, too.Raising food animals contributes substantially to climate change because a meat-based diet requires more land, energy and water than a plant-based one.
Drinking plenty of fluids is significant during hot weather or when exercising. But is bottled water the way to go? You may not think so when seeing the true costs.Based on a survey,

One evening in February 2017. a student named Paula Ceely brought her car to a stop on a remote place in Wales . She got out to open a metal gate that blocked her path. That’s when she heard the whistle sounded by the driver of a train. Her Renault Clio parked across a railway line. Second later, she watched the train drag her car almost a kilometre down the railway tracks. Ceely’s near miss made the news because she blamed it on her GPS device(导航仪). She had never driven the route before .It was dark and raining heavily . Ceely was relying on her GPS. But it made no mention of the crossing ." I put my complete trust in the device and it led me right into the path of a speeding train ," she told the BBC.
Who is to blame here? Rick Stevenson ,who tells Ceely’s story in his book When Machines Fail US, finger at the limitations of technology. We put our faith in digital devices, he says, but our digital helpers are too often not up to the job. They are filled with small problems. And it’s not ju st

GPS devices: Stevenson takes us on a tour of digital disasters involving everything from mobile phones to wireless key boards.
The problem with his argument in the book is that it’s not clear why he only focuses digital technology, while there may be a number of other possible causes. A map-maker might have left the crossing off a paper map. Maybe we should blame Ceely for not paying attention. perhaps the railway authorities are at fault for poor signaling system. Or maybe someone has studied the relative dangers and worked out that there really is something specific wrong with the GPS equipment. But Stevenson doesn’t say.
It’s a problem that runs through the book. In a section on cars, Stevenson gives an account of the advanced techniques that criminals use to defeat computer-based locking systems for cars. He offers two independent sets of figures on car theft; both show a small rise in some parts of the country. He says that once again not all new locks have proved reliable. Perhaps, but maybe it’s also due to the shortage of policemen on the streets. Or changing social circumstances. Or some combination of these factors.
The game between humans and their smart devices is complex. It is shaped by economics and psychology and the cultures we live in. Somewhere in the mix of those forces there may be a wiser use of technology.
If there is such a way, it should involve more than just an awareness of the shortcomings of our machines. After all, we have lived with them for thousands of years. They have probably been fooling us for just as long.
66 . What did Paula Ceely think was the cause of her accident?
A. She was not familiar with the road.
B. It was dark and raining heavily then.
C. The railway works failed to give the signal.
D. Her GPS device didn’t tell her about the crossing
67 .The phrase” near miss” (paragraph 2 ) can best be replaced by _______.
A. close bit
B. heavy loss
C.narrow escape
D. big mistake
68. .Which of the following would Rick Stevenson most probably agree with?
A. Modern technology is what we can’t live without.
B. Digital technology often falls short of our expectation.

D. GPS error is not the only cause for Celery’s accident.

C. puzzling
D. well-based

A hobby is an activity we can do in our free time, so that we can keep ourselves busy with something that makes us happy. Different people pursue (追求) different kinds of hobbies, according to their personal likes and dislikes. Hobbies are activities we choose to do, but not activities we have to do. There is a lot of difference between wanting to do something and having to do it. We only want to do those things we like to do, and things that give us pleasure and peace of mind.
Hobbies hold a very important place in our lives. For example, they are a means of connecting us with our inner self. The time devoted to taking up a hobby is our own time. This is the time when we can connect and communicate with ourselves. During this personal time, we can do whatever we like. Doing things according to our own wishes gives us a sense of inner satisfaction, and also helps develop self-confidence.
Hobbies also help discover talents. There is a possibility that we are interested in a certain activity, but have never had a chance to actually try it. If we develop our interest as our hobbies, it’s obvious that we’ll do it with great interest. So, even if we have never tried a certain thing before, we can still learn to do it. Thus, the hobbyists’ hidden talents can be discovered, and this can make them feel extremely proud and satisfied.
It’s human nature to try to know more abo ut the things we like. The moment we pursue some activities as our favorite hobbies, we tend to gain more knowledge about the same hobby. Whether it’s gardening, cooking, painting or collecting stamps, we always try to get a deeper understanding of what we’re doing, so that we can do it more correctly. What’s more, we also happen to meet people with similar tastes and sometimes, possessing (拥有) rich knowledge about their hobbies. Thus, besides gaining knowledge, hobbies also provide us with a chance to meet people who share

My Thankfulness for My Parents
According to recently released survey results, most parents do not think their children are thankful toward them, while children think thankfulness is important and a means to repay those who have helped them.
Throughout our life, numerous people deserve our thanks. Our parents are first we should thank. In my opinion, we should always be thankful toward our parents for the fact that they give us our lives and bring us up. Our parents Show us their great love and take good care of us. When we get sick, they become so worried that they cannot sleep at night. Our parents always give us the best but never ask for anything in return. Therefore, we should always be thankful toward our parents. Personally, I often express my thankfulness in words and by sharing my parents’ difficultie s, such as “doing more household work” and “preparing a meal for them on their birthdays”. I think these small deeds make my parents very happy.
