Scout could clearly remember the night she had to leave her home in Poland. It was the beginning of World War II and her family had to escape as soon as possible. She quickly packed a suitcase with a few pieces of clothing, her diary, and her most prized treasure, a silk scarf. Scout and her best friend, Betty, had persuaded their parents to buy them matching scarves, which they took as a symbol of their friendship. Scout didn’t know she was going to America and would not be returning. Scout kept that special silk scarf for many years. One day she decided to give it to her granddaughter, Eliza, to wear to her first job interview for good luck. Scout was afraid that Eliza would lose the scarf, but the granddaughter promised, %us luck.\Leaving the interview, Eliza felt confident that she had got the job so she decided to celebrate by going to a restaurant. Sitting at her table, Eliza felt an elderly woman staring at her for a long time. \

\to wear a scarf just like yours.\of her grandmother's best friend and knew the meaning of the scarf. Could this woman be Betty, her grandmother's childhood friend? 注意:

1. 所续写短文词数应为100左右;

2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

Paragraph 1:

Then the old woman introduced herself, “My name is _______________________________

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2:

The old woman agreed. _______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 答案及解析:

Then the old woman introduced herself, “My name is Betty. I’m originally from Poland, but left there when I was thirteen. And I have been living here in Washington DC in America ever since.” Eliza could not believe it, stories of her grandmother’s best friend floating in her mind. She assumed that the old woman must be her grandmother’s best friend. She said, “Betty, would you mind coming with me right now? I need to show you

1

somebody.”

The old woman agreed. Soon they left the restaurant after dinner. Arriving at Scout’s home, the old woman eagerly rang the door bell. The moment Scout opened the door, she was amazed to see her childhood friend standing in front of her. How magical! The scarf indeed brought them good luck. Excited and moved, both of them were in tears. They hadn’t seen each other for many years and had many things to share.

“If mum finds out that I'm going to the beach, I'll be in big trouble.” I said to myself softly in a low voice. I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, mum asked without looking up from her “dish-washing”, “Where are you going?” I answered back without hesitation,“ I am going to the garden to play.” After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sign of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed,

After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in the canoes (独木舟). After a while, I saw them near a coconut tree. I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk (游泳裤). For about an hour, we played volleyball happily.

Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared to help get the ball for them.

I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in

an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed (海草)tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.

I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use. “ If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened,” I thought silently. Paragraph 1

2

Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater.

________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2

When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed.________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ 答案及解析: Paragraph 1

Finally, after struggling For a minute or two, I still got putted underwater. I told myself I should never give up. Then I pulled the weed again with great efforts. The weed finally broke. I swam back to the surface to take a deep breath. I saw two young men in canoes, racing each other. I was exhausted and shouted for help. The two men saw me and raced towards me. By the time they reached me, I had been already unconscious. Paragraph 2

When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed. It was not until a doctor came into the room that I realized that I was in a hospital. Jimmy and Bobby told me the two young men brought me to the shore and sent me to the hospital. After a few minutes, my parents with half angry and half worried faces walked in. My parents scolded me for running out of the house secretly but were also glad that I was not seriously injured. I will never forget that terrifying experience. Neither will I ever want to show off again.

Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater.

When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed.

On a cold windy day, a poor boy tried to pay his way through school by selling goods door to door. Wandering on the street, he was not a successful seller. What’s worse, he found that he only had one dime(一角硬币) left. His empty stomach reminded him constantly that for days he hadn’t eaten anything. He had no choice but to beg for a meal at the next house. Hesitantly he knocked at door, thinking about what to say when it opened. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. “What can I do for you?” asked the young woman. The

boy paused for a while “Would you please give me some … a drink of water?” the boy dare not to look directly into her eyes. She looked at the bony boy and thought he might need something to give him energy so she brought him a glass of milk. His head rising and small hands taking the cup, he drank it up slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied with a warm smile on her face. “My mother has taught me never to accept pay for a kindness.” Deeply moved, he said sincerely, “Then I shall thank you from the bottom of my heart.”As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it also increased his faith in God and the whole human race. As a matter of fact, he was about to give up and quit before that point. Years later the young woman became critically ill. However, the local doctors were unable to give the effective medical treatment. Finally they sent her to a hospital in the big city, where specialists can be called in to cure her rare disease. Among those famous specialists, Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately, he rose and went down through the hospital hall into her room.

1. She was afraid to open it because she was sure that it would take the rest of her life to pay it off. 2.on the side of which a note caught her attention 使用了which引导的定语从句。 3.Tears of joy flooded her eyes as she prayed silently 此处是由as引导的时间状语从句。

Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns, elephants, and other acts they would see that night. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say, \armor.\

He was smiling and basking in pride, looking back at her as if to reply, \The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, \children's tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.\

The ticket lady quoted the price. The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, and his lip began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, \The ticket lady again quoted the price. The man didn't have enough money.

How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn‘t have enough money to take them to the circus?

5

Actually we were not wealthy in any sense. So I understand how the kids would feel. I feel sorry for them. 注意:

1. 所续写的短文词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 1

Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground.

That day my father and I went to our car and drove home without any tickets.

My fiance(未婚夫) and I were excited about shopping for our first home. But our funds were limited, and none of the houses in our price range seemed satisfactory. One agent recommended a house in particular. Although her description sounded wonderful, the price was beyond our range, so we declined(谢绝). But she kept urging us to have a look at last.

6

We finally did and it was love at first sight. It was our home, small and charming, overlooking a quiet lake. Walking through the rooms and talking with the owners, a nice elderly couple, we felt the warmth and happiness of the marriage within that home. As perfect as it was, the price remained too high for us. But every day, we would sit by the lake, looking at the house and dreaming of what it would be like to live there. Days later, we made an offer—far below the asking price. Surprisingly, they didn’t laugh at us. They renewed their offer instead. It was also much more than we could afford, but far less than the original asking price. The next day, we got a disappointing message that another buyer had offered a much higher price. Even so, we decided to talk with the owners directly. We made our final offer, which still was thousands of dollars less than the other buyer’s bid(出价). We knew it, but we had to try. Nobody knew if we could get it. 注意:1. 所续写的短文的词数应为150词左右;

Paragraph 1:

_________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ 答案及解析: 13. Paragrph1:

We went to the owner’s home after we made our final offer. The other potential buyer came with confidence. The owner smiled, saying, “Tell me the reason why you need this house. The one whose answer satisfies me will take the possession of it.” “For my business.” The buyer answered without any hesitation. After thinking for a while, I replied, “I can feel warmth and love of the marriage in the house, which I have been longing for.” Paragraph2:

The owner looked at us and said, “I want to sell my house to you!” A surge(大量,汹涌) of shock hit me. “Why? He offered a higher price than I could afford.” I asked, surprised. “I want to give it to those who can fill it with love instead of money.” We appreciated him and felt a sense of warmth, deeply moved. I realized that a sincere heart was more significant than money.

I woke up earlier than my brother as every other day of the week. I jumped out of the bed, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and had breakfast. Saying good bye to my mother, I got in the car no later than 7:05. I got to school on time, even though my brother came out of the house late as he used to.

It was a Thursday. I was walking to the chemistry rooms when my phone in my left pocket vibrated(震动). I took it out and looked at the shiny screen. As soon as I saw my father’s name on that screen I realized something was not right.

He would not call me in the middle of a school day just to talk. He would want me to focus in school and do well. I answered the phone, and my father sounded worried. He told me to find my brother as soon as possible, walk with him to the school picking-up zone and get in the car with my brother. Our driver would take us back home where my father was.

When I was in the car with my brother my dad called the driver and told him to take us to the hospital. We were going to meet him and my mum there. As soon as my brother and I found about the change in plans, we looked at each other in the eyes. I immediately noticed the fear in brother’s eyes.

To be honest, I was really scared too, probably more than he was. But I did not say anything. We arrived at the hospital. I saw my dad on the phone waiting for us at the entrance. He was smoking. Seeing my dad smoking made me more worried. I had never seen him smoke before. He hated it. As soon as he recognized the white car, he threw the cigarette away. I looked at my brother; he was looking out of the other window. I did not tell him what I just saw. I did not want him to worry.

The car stopped right in front of my dad.He opened the door and I jumped out of the car and hugged hin. He

noticed that I was worried right away and with a smile on his face told us he had a surprise for us. “What good things happen in hospital?” When we approached the ward, my dad told my brother and me to close our eyes and hold his hands. So we did. His warm hands made me feel more secure.

We walked down the hall with our eyes closed. Suddenly we stopped. When we walked into the room, my father told us to open our eyes.We saw our mother lying on the bed. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I was not in pain. Right next to my mother I saw the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was a girl. She was sleeping. She was my sister. I still remember that day as one of the happiest days of my life.

Last weekend, I went to Mark’s new house nearby a forest for a little get-together. After lunch when I was chatting with him and his wife Cody, he asked me, “Hey Thoran, have you ever been to a secret spot?” Before I could even finish saying no, Cody and Mark were already at the door with their jackets on. And the next moment we were heading out into the forest with a camera, a fishing net and a plastic bucket(桶).

We walked through the forest along a path by a small river. Breathing the fresh air, we three talked and laughed all the way.

“Hey! What are you guys doing?” Someone suddenly shouted from behind. Mark and Cody’s eyes immediately widened, and without a word they started running. I had no choice but to follow them, getting my shoes wet and dirty with mud. We probably ran for about 10 minutes before Mark and Cody slowed down. I stopped to catch my breath and asked, “Who was that?”

Mark replied, “The most annoying neighbor ever. If he caught up with us, there’s no telling what could happen. He is always making fun of us. I dislike him.” We kept walking on for a few more minutes. Then a beautiful lake appeared before our eyes. “Wow! Amazing!” I shouted and could hardly hold back my excitement. The lake was large and the water was deep and blue, looking so peaceful with tall trees around it. 注意:

1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 1:

Paragraph 1:

Looking around, we saw a rubber boat floating by the shore. “How about going boating?” Mark asked. “Good idea.” So we three excitedly jumped onto the boat and rowed far out. I was thrilled to find so many fishes in the lake. Before I could say a word, Mark had cast the fishing net into the water. “Let’s wait and see.” Mark smiled mysteriously. “Look this way. Let me take a photo of you two.” Cody said, taking out the camera. Hearing that, I quickly approached Mark. But all of a sudden I lost my balance and fell into the water. Paragraph 2:

“Help! Help! Help!” I was so frightened and cried for help. However, none of us could swim. Mark and Cody tried to pull me up from the water but in vain. Struggling in the water, I was almost exhausted when I felt myself lifted by someone. It was Mark’s neighbor, who followed us there and saw what had happened. Without hesitation, he jumped into the water and I was saved.

Looking around, we saw a rubber boat floating by the shore.

Help! Help!” I was so frightened and cried for help.

Honesty and Forgiveness

On a winter afternoon, a friend and I were throwing stones onto the roof of the old lady’s house. The object of our play was to observe how the stones changed to missiles(导弹)as they rolled to the edge of the roof. I found myself a perfectly smooth rock and threw it out. The stone was too smooth, however, so it slipped from my hand as I let it go and headed straight not for the roof but for a small window on the old lady’s back porch. At the sound of crashed glass, we knew we were in trouble and ran away.

I was too frightened of getting caught that first night to be concerned about the old lady with the broken window in winter. However, a few days later, when I was sure that I hadn’t been discovered, I started to feel guilty for her misfortune. She still greeted me with a smile each day when I gave her the paper, but I was no longer able to act comfortable in her presence.

I made up my mind that I would save my paper delivery money, ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
