一、cover letter的内容主要包括：

简述所投稿件的核心内容、主要发现和意义，以及与这个杂志的相关性，拟投期刊，对稿件处理有无特殊要求等（如“not to review” list）。另外，请附上主要作者的中文姓名、通讯地址、电话、传真和e-mail地址。此外有的杂志要求推荐几位审稿人及其联系方式。以及谁已经阅读过该文（当然是牛人）。另外还有的可能要写明你没有一搞多投等。此外临床实验要求写明符合伦理学要求。

至于如何写cover letter，各个杂志的具体要求是不一样的，在杂志的guide for authors一般会有要求。如果没有具体的要求，大家可按照通用要求处理。

一般包括这几个方面

1. main findings

2. significance

3. suggested reviewers

4. “not to review” list

5. who have read

英文说明：

"Cover Letter" (as the submission of a manuscript) is a letter that you provide the editor of the journal. It should contain the content of the manuscript (e.g., the title, pages). You may say something good about this journal in the cover letter. And you may also express that this manuscript is not under consideration to submit to other journals because such may bring with some problems of copyright.

By the way, you may ask your boss to sign in the letter if it is faxed to the eiditor.

cover letter is a brief introduction of your paper, and inform the author that your manuscript is a novel work and original paper. you should also disclose that no conflict of financial interest existing in the work (generally speaking).

covering letter should be brief, and your paper should be sent as doc. or pdf. form according to the instruction of the journal to which you submitted the paper.

二、Cover Letter和Comments的区别：

1. Comments是自己对自己的研究和论文的评价和介绍，重要是突出自己研究和论文的特色，让Editor一看就被吸引住了，然后他才看摘要，全文，分配给reviewers。

2. Cover Letter：

The letter should indicate:

The category of manuscript being submitted (e.g. Original Article, Short Report, Letter). Information on related prior or concurrent submissions to other publications.

A list of at least three referees（每个杂志不一样）.The list should not name current or prior collaborators.

The direct mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.
