Zero. That‘s the number of points I scored the entire summer while playing in Philadelphia‘s Sonny Hill Future League when I was 12 years old. I didn‘t score. Not a free throw, not an accidental layup, not even a lucky throw-the-ball-up-oops-it-went-in-basket.
My father Joe ―Jellybean‖ Bryant and my uncle John ―Chubby‖ Cox were Future League legends in their day. My father as a 6‘10‖ point forward and my uncle as a 6‘4‖ point guard.
I was putting my family to shame!
I considered maybe just giving up basketball and just focusing on soccer. Here‘s where my respect and admiration for MJ was forged (形成). I learned that he had been cut from his high school team as a freshman; I learned he knew what it felt like to be embarrassed, to feel like a failure. But he used those emotions to fuel him, make him stronger, he didn‘t quit. So I decided to take on my challenge the same way he did. I would channel my failure as fuel to keep my competitive fire burning. I became obsessed with proving to my family — and more importantly to myself — that I CAN DO THIS.
It became an obsession. I learned everything about the game, the history, the players, the fundamentals. I wasn‘t just determined to never have a summer of zero again, I was driven to inflict (使遭受) the same sense of failure on my competition as they unknowingly inflicted on me. My killer instinct to score was born.
Twenty-four years later, I pass my muse. What a journey this has been. Setting this mark is a huge honor. Thank you all for your love and support, it is much appreciated, even if the villain (恶棍) in me refuses to acknowledge it all the time.
24.Why did the author feel like giving up basketball when he was a kid? A. He lost interest in basketball.
B. He showed a greater talent for football.[来源:Zxxk.Com] C. He felt that he didn‘t deserve his family name. D. His family was disappointed at his performance.
25.What did the author think of failure after knowing about MJ‘s story? A. Motivator.
B. Nightmare.
C. Embarrassment.
D. Shame.
26.What has the author achieved Twenty-four years later? A. He has beaten MJ in his achievement. B. He has known everything about basketball. C. He has become another Future League legend.
D. He has defeated his nightmare of the Zero-scored summer. 27.Which word can best describe the author‘s character?
A. Fragile B. Aggressive
C
C. Optimistic D. Proud
Zoos have traditionally been built in a certain way: Animals on the inside, humans on the outside, peering in. This separation is good in theory—humans and animals need to be protected from one another—but terrible in practice, as animals end up living in an environment far from a natural habitat. A new plan for a Zoo in Denmark wants to reverse those roles, giving animals more freedom in captivity while effectively placing humans inside protective barriers.
Called Zootopia, the conceptual design has the goal of turning the safari style zoo into a place where animals determine interaction—not humans. \like. What would they decide?\and we are going to try to create that\
In Zootopia, animals will wander free around the perimeter (周围,边缘)while humans observe, hidden away from view in underground passageways and naturalistic architecture structures. Visitors can watch lions through an underground enclosure disguised as a hill. They'll peek out at giraffes through windowed houses built into the side of a hilly plains. Outside of the main circular entrance, there will be no traditional buildings. \
The main challenge, of course, is to design the zoo in a way that the enclosure is still there but it's not visible. The two-phase plan, which will cost around $200 million, is still in the improving and approval phase; it'll be at least five years until we see any work finished on the park, and it's likely to take upwards of 10 years before it opens. Can the animals wait that long? 28.Why does a zoo in Denmark plan to create Zootopia? A.to protect animals from humans. B.to provide animals with a natural habitat. C. to provide humans with more freedom in the zoo.
D. to protect humans and give animals enough freedom.[来源:学科网ZXXK] 29. Different from traditional zoos, in Zootopia .
A. animals enjoy full freedom.B. there will be no conventional buildings.
C. humans watch animals without being noticed.D. humans can interact with animals at their will. 30. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. It‘s tricky to design the enclosure. B. Zootopia is now under construction.
C. There is a long way to go before Zootopia operates. D. Zootopia arouses people‘s concern about animals. 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. the future of Zootopia
B. the development of Zootopia
D. the concept of a cage-free zoo
C.the fall of traditional zoos

If you often choose to spend your evenings settling into your bed with a cup of tea and Netflix, it‘s probably a sign that you‘re an introvert. But while flying solo can reveal a lot about your personality, it might say something about your smarts, too. Yes, it‘s true: New research says that introverts could have a higher IQ.
Generally speaking, the more often people socialize with friends, the happier they feel. But intelligent people tend to prefer their ―me time‖, according to a new study by researchers at Singapore Management University and the London School of Economics.
To reach these results, the team of psychologists conducted two studies using data from a massive national review of over 15,000 people between the ages of 18 and 28. The first study examined the link between subjects‘ scores on an intelligence test, the population density in the area where subjects lived, and how satisfied subjects reported feeling with their lives. Meanwhile, the second evaluated how subjects‘ IQ scores compared to their life satisfaction and how often they socialized with friends.
Overall, participants who lived in less populated areas reported feeling happier, whereas those with high IQ scores who lived in the same areas felt less satisfied. Most people were also happier the more often they socialized, the results found. But on the flip side, intelligent people reported feeling less satisfied with their lives the more time they spent with friends.
While these two conclusions seem to contradict each other, the psychologists believe they can be explained by ―the savanna theory of happiness.‖ Here‘s the basic rundown: Back when our ancestors were hunter-gatherers, spending time with friends was essential to survive; now, as a result, most of us feel unhappy when we are isolated. But because people with high IQs don‘t follow that rule, some scientists believe that intelligent brains are simply more adaptable to what would otherwise be unusual environments, such as being alone or living in crowded communities.
So next time you're looking for an excuse to back out of a social engagement, — preferably one that's not \mon Go tonight\— then have we got the perfect line for you: \intelligent.\
32. What does the underlined word in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. someone who is intelligent and curious. B. someone who is quiet and unsociable C. someone who is active and determinedD. someone who is addicted to the Internet 33. According to the passage, who might be more satisfied with his life? A. An average person living in a less crowded community. B. A smart person hanging out with friends at weekends. C. An average person watching TV alone at home. D. A smart person living in a thinly-populated area
34. Why is the savanna theory of happiness mentioned in this passage? A. To inform us why our ancestors needed friends. B. To explain two seemingly contradictory conclusions. C. To clarify why smart people prefer to stay alone. D. To introduce a psychological theory to us. 35. What can we learn from the passage?
A. One‘s intelligence might have something to do with his personality. B.Intelligent brains feel uneasy in crowded communities.
C. People who play Pokémon Go are too intelligent for social engagements D. Intelligent people are more flexible in unusual circumstances. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
