Intel XEON E5系列CPU的一些资料

Our yesterday's story on upcoming refresh of Intel Xeon 5600 family supplied some details on its successor, branded as Xeon E5. In the article, we named only one product family, Xeon E5-2600, when, in fact, there are four different families, aimed at single, dual- and quad-socket workstations and servers. Workstation market will be targeted by Romley-WS platform, which is comprised of Xeon E5-1600 and E5-2600 families, and Intel C600-series chipset. The E5-1600 will work in uni-processor systems, while the E5-2600 will support dual-processor configurations. Both families will use socket R (LGA2011), and will be launched in the 4th quarter of this year. Intel plans two product families, Xeon E5-2400 and E5-2600, for 2-socket servers, whereas Xeon E5-4600 is projected for 4-way servers. The E5-2400 family will utilize socket B2 (LGA1356), and E5-2600 / E5-4600-series CPUs will be compatible with socket R. Intel E5-2400 and E5-4600 microprocessors are expected in the first quarter 2012. All Xeon E5 processors will use C600 (Patsburg) series chipset, that will be launched in 4th quarter 2011. Xeon 2600-series chips will have up to 8 cores, and accommodate all advanced Sandy Bridge features, such as HyperThreading, Turbo Boost technology, AVX and AES instructions, and VT-x / VT-d / VT-c virtualization. We don't any extra details on these and other E5 CPUs. For your convenience, we compiled important (and known) family features in the table below:

Next year, Intel plans to launch new Xeon E5 group of families for socket 2011 and socket 1356 Romley platforms. There will be three different subfamilies, aimed at single-, dual- and quad-processor servers, based on socket 2011 platform. Only one subfamily, E5-2400, will be compatible with socket B2 (socket 1356). Microprocessors from Xeon E5-2400 series will be built on Sandy Bridge-EN core, and have from 4 to 8 cores, and from 10 MB to 20 MB of L3 cache. They will support three memory channels, incorporate one QPI link, and work in two-way systems. We already published specifications of Xeon E5-2400 CPUs for server market. One server processor, E5-2430, will be also offered for embedded applications. Additionally, next year Intel will introduce three low-power embedded models for socket B2, Xeon E5-2418L, E5-2428L and E5-2448L. Intel E5-2418L has 4 CPU cores and 10 MB L3 cache. This microprocessor supports Hyper-Threading, therefore it can process up to 8 threads simultaneously. Clocked at 2 GHz, the E5-2418L features the lowest Thermal Design Power from E5-2400 series, only 50 Watt. Xeon E5-2428L adds two CPU cores, and has larger 15 MB level 3 cache. Despite of lower 1.8 GHz clock speed, than on the 2418L SKU, its power requirements are a bit higher. Compared to E5-2418L, Xeon E5-2448L packs twice as many cores and L3 cache memory. This 8-core model runs at 1.8 GHz, and has TDP increased to 70 Watt. Like two other models, it supports Hyper-Threading, Virtualization, and Trusted Execution technologies, and incorporates AES instructions. At this time, we don't know whether these chips support Turbo Boost feature or not. Known specifications of upcoming embedded Xeons are provided in the table below: Model Cores Threads Frequency L3 cache TDP Xeon E5-2418L Xeon E5-2428L Xeon E5-2448L 4 6 8 8 12 16 2 GHz 1.8 GHz 1.8 GHz 10 MB 15 MB 20 MB 50 Watt 60 Watt 70 Watt

This quarter AMD will launch Opteron 4200 microprocessors for dual-processor servers and workstations. New Opteron products will be based on \Bulldozer modules (6 or 8 cores) on a chip. At introduction, these CPUs will compete with dual-, quad- and six-core Xeon 5600 processors, built on enhanced Nehalem microarchitecture. In the first quarter 2012 Intel is going to replace 5600 family with E5-2600 Sandy Bridge chips. At this time we know 17 server and two embedded models from that family. In the Q2, Intel will release Xeon E5-2400 CPUs, which are also aimed at dual-processor systems. We recently learned that E5-2400 series will consist of 9 models with 4, 6 and 8 cores, operating at stock frequencies up to 2.4 GHz. Two entry-level models, Xeon E5-2403 and E5-2407, are quad-core CPUs with 10 MB level 3 cache. The processors fit into 80 Watt thermal envelope, and do not support Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies. The E5-2403 operates at 1.8 GHz, whereas the E5-2407 has 2.2 GHz clock speed. Xeon E5-2420, E5-2430L, E5-2430 and E5-2440 incorporate 6 cores, and 15 MB, or 50% larger than on entry-level chips, L3 cache. They also support faster DDR3-1333 memory, and have Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost enabled. The CPUs are clocked at 1.9 GHz, 2 GHz, 2.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz respectively. With the exception of E5-2430L, that has 60 Watt TDP, the chips have 95 Watt Thermal Design Power. Intel Xeon E5-2450L, E5-2450 and E5-2470 feature eight cores, larger 20 MB last level cache, and support for DDR3-1600 memory. The slowest model, E5-2450L, is clocked at 1.8 GHz and it has 70 Watt TDP. Xeon E5-2450 and E5-2470 are 95 Watt parts, and they come with 2.1 and 2.3 GHz frequencies. All microprocessors from E5-2400 series integrate triple-channel DDR3 controller, and one QPI link. The CPUs utilize socket B2, also known as socket 1356. Specifications of forthcoming Xeon processors are listed in the table below: Model Cores Threads Frequency L3 cache Memory TDP Xeon E5-2403 Xeon E5-2407 Xeon E5-2420 Xeon E5-2430 Xeon E5-2430L Xeon E5-2440 Xeon E5-2450 4 4 6 6 6 6 8 4 4 12 12 12 12 16 1.8 GHz 2.2 GHz 1.9 GHz 2.2 GHz 2 GHz 2.4 GHz 2.1 GHz 10 MB 10 MB 15 MB 15 MB 15 MB 15 MB 20 MB DDR3-1066 DDR3-1066 DDR3-1333 DDR3-1333 DDR3-1333 DDR3-1333 DDR3-1600 80 Watt 80 Watt 95 Watt 95 Watt 60 Watt 95 Watt 95 Watt Xeon E5-2450L Xeon E5-2470 8 8 16 16 1.8 GHz 2.3 GHz 20 MB 20 MB DDR3-1600 DDR3-1600 70 Watt 95 Watt
