What makes an original contributor in science is often not only ability, but also something else, something apparently intangible, and not easily detected. This extra something lies deep within the individual and needs to be nurtured and tested.

Motivation is a personal trait that is primariry instilled by seniors such as teachers or parents. An important aspect in developing motivation is the setting of goals. A person probably has set long-range goals, or at this point more like dreams, such as winning the Nobel Prize. This is great as long as the individual is realistically working toward short-range goals also. These are the day-to-day accomplishments that really make working hard seem fun.

A monumental classic considered by many to be not only the greatest love story ever written, but also the greatest Civil War saga.

Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell's epic novel, was published in 1936, 73 years ago. Set against a backdrop of the US Civil War, Gone With the Wind tells the story of Southern belle Scarlett O'Hara and her stormy relationship with the debonair (温文尔雅) Rhett Butler. Mitchell won the Pulitzer Prize for the novel and it was made into a blockbuster (重磅炸弹) movie two years later, starring Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable as the main protagonists. Repeated failures at making experiments may be too much for many talented would-be scientists. The determination to continue, with the realization that everything worthwhile takes a great deal of patience, is an essential requirement. These factors, together with inherent dedication, will bring about the realization of one?s aspirations. Through all this it is not the triumph but the struggle that brings about the complete personal satisfaction in knowing that you as a scientist have given your all.
