BE-AWARE ADVISORY # BW 2005-14A

Be-Aware Advisories are Proprietary to Honeywell and Honeywell Customers HINTS, Priority Notifications, and BeAware Advisories Available on the Honeywell Solution Support Online Web Site, at 170ba32e647d27284b73518c/ps Select Contacts & Support>Support>Legacy SSOL > Login, Select Solution Support Online, Then select entitled products, such as Experion then Technical Notifications on the right side AFFECTED CUSTOMERS:Customers using or planning to use the GE Fanuc Series 90 Interface with GE Fanuc IC693CPU374 modules, or PACSystems RX3i or PACSystems RX7i controllers.

SUBJECT:The interface is incompatible with older IC693CPU374 modules. Controller AUP modification is required for compatibility with newer IC693CPU374 modules or PACSystem RX3i or RX7i controllers.

Note this document supersedes BE-AWARE Advisory # BW 2005-14.

ANOMALY SUMMARY:

In PlantScape and Experion PKS, the GE Fanuc Series 90 Interface uses the GE Fanuc Host Communications Toolkit (HCT) IC641SWP058B Version 1.02 to communicate with GE Fanuc controllers. As part of the connection process, the HCT improperly forms and sends messages to controllers. Recent GE Fanuc modules and controllers have more rigorous error checking than earlier models and can reject PlantScape/Experion PKS connections because of the improperly formed messages.

Honeywell is no longer working on resolving the issue with IC693CPU374 CPU modules with hardware revisions D and earlier. These modules have been superseded by the newer CPU374 modules and manufacturing of the older modules has been discontinued by GE Fanuc.

POTENTIAL CUSTOMER OBSERVABLE SYMPTOMS:

Observable symptoms depend on the module/controller type and the GE Fanuc firmware version. The following table lists symptoms which may be observed for each set of module/controller type:

Modules/Controllers Symptoms

IC693CPU374 CPU module (hardware revisions D and earlier) PlantScape/Experion PKS channel does not connect successfully at all and experiences 100% communication errors.

IC693CPU374 CPU module (hardware revisions E and later)

PACSystems RX3i controller PACSystems RX7i controller PlantScape/Experion PKS channel does not connect successfully at all and experiences 100% communication errors or channel does connect but goes into overload.

IC693CPU364 CPU module

IC693CMM321 Communications module IC697CMM741 Communications module IC697CMM742 Communications module No problems are expected with these older modules.

If problems are experienced they should be reported to Global TAC for investigation

NOTE: Due to the wide variety of process control equipment configurations and site-specific control strategies, it is the responsibility of each customer to assess the potential impact of this anomaly to their process & facilities.

PROBABILITY OF OCCURRENCE:

Probability of occurrence of symptoms will depend on the type of GE Fanuc hardware as described above.

ACTIONS:

For IC693CPU374modules with hardware revisions D and earlier there are no known corrective actions to enable successful PlantScape/Experion PKS GE Fanuc Series 90 Interface communications with these devices. Possible alternatives are:

- Replace the existing IC693CPU374 module with one of hardware revision E or later (otherwise known as a CPU374 Plus module). This is the recommended action. The HCT compatibility mode change (see below) can then be used to force the newer module to be compatible with the HCT.

- Use an older GE Fanuc module that is compatible with the HCT (see table above).

- Use a newer PACSystems controller that can be forced to be compatible with the HCT (see below).

- Use a combination of the PlantScape/Experion PKS OPC Client Interface and the GE Fanuc OPC Server for GE SRTP instead of the PlantScape/Experion PKS GE Fanuc Series 90 Interface.

- Use Modbus TCP instead of the PlantScape/Experion PKS GE Fanuc Series 90 Interface.

For IC693CPU374modules with hardware revisions E and later (otherwise known as CPU374 Plus modules), or PACSystems RX3i or PACSystems RX7i controllers using firmware release 2.57 or later, the Ethernet interface of the controller can be configured to run in HCT compatibility mode. This allows the interface to ignore SRTP header errors that were not detected in previous Series 90 products. Instructions for making this change can be found by searching for “chct_comp” in the GE Fanuc publications TCP/IP Ethernet Communications for Series 90-30 CPU374 PLUS - Station Manager Manual – July 2005 (GFK-2383) or TCP/IP Ethernet Communications for PACSystems – April 2005 (GFK-2224C). These manuals are available from the GE Fanuc GlobalCare website at 170ba32e647d27284b73518c/. Note that a GE Fanuc Single Sign On Login may be required to access these documents.

GE Fanuc Technical support may also be obtained by emailing support@170ba32e647d27284b73518c or telephoning 800-GEFANUC. A GE Fanuc GlobalCare number may be required to obtain technical support. See
