A

My teacher held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window?” Thirty boys tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher might have found out. She seldom became angry, but she was this time.

“Oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. It was caused by a naughty throw of a baseball. If I admitted guilt, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that? I didn’t even get an allowance. “My father is going to have a fit,” I thought. I didn’t want to raise my hand, but some force much stronger than I was pulled it skyward.

I told the truth. “I did it.” It was hard enough to say what I had.

My teacher took down a book from one of our library shelves and I had never known my teacher to strike a student, but I feared she was going to start with me. “I know how you like birds,” she said as she stood looking down at my guilt-ridden face. “Here is that field guide about birds that you are constantly checking out. It is yours now. It’s time we got a new one for the school anyway. You will not be punished as long as you remember that I am not rewarding you for your misdeed, I am rewarding you for your truthfulness.”I couldn’t believe it! I wasn’t being punished an d I was getting my own bird field guide---the very one that I had been saving up money to buy. All that remains of that day is my memory and the lesson my teacher taught me. That lesson stays with me every day and it will echo forever.

56. From the story, we can learn that the boy_______.

A. didn’t break the window on purpose.

B. lacked the strength to ad mit his guilt.

D. didn’t know what the teacher would find out.

A. be punished by the teacher

B. make his father angry

C. pay for the broken window

D. get a bird field guide

Tired of all the pushing in supermarkets? Fed up with waiting in endless lines to pay for what you have bought? Angry at wasting time in traffic jams only to find no parking spaces when you eventually arrive at the store? If this is you, then online shopping is the answer to your dreams of trouble-free shopping. Or is it?

Online shopping brings its own challenges. Here are a few things to bear in mind when browsing (浏览) various websites. The claim made by online sites is that shopping online is a safe and secure way to make purchases. The evidence challenges this. In any case, you only have to be the victim of fraud (诈骗) once to experience all the problems that come with this form of stealing. Use only sites that have a trusted history and an excellent reputation.

Another problem is the appearance of items in reality is often quite different from what you see on your computer screen. This might not be a problem if you are buying washing-up powder but could be a major disappointment when that beautiful blue dress you ordered turns up in green. Also, product descriptions are sometimes simply untrue. Perhaps the wisest plan is to purchase items where design and color are not essential to customer satisfaction.

Some even argue that online shopping indirectly contributes to global warming. Yes, your car can stay parked but how are online goods delivered? Often by some large vans pouring out carbon monoxide and adding to our already desperate traffic problems. You are also by now becom ing increasingly irritated (使烦恼) by the fact that the delivery is late and you have wasted the leave from work you have taken to receive it!

Without question, online shopping is here to stay and it has its benefits. However, perhaps it is not as wonderful as some of its supporters claim it to be.

59. By what can online shoppers avoid fraud?

A. Using only trusted websites.

B. Choosing big websites.

C. Collecting shopping evidence.

D. Seeking advice from the police.

4

60. The author agrees with the fact that ______.

A. customers are never satisfied with products

B. online shopping is a safe way to make purchases

C. online shopping has nothing to do with global warming

D. delivery delay often makes online shoppers unhappy

61. What is the author’s attitude towards online shopping?

A. Very popular.

B. A wise choice.

C. Not trouble free.

D. A waste of time.

Honeymooning at Niagara Falls has become a standard for millions of newly married couples. In fact, Niagara Falls is often fondly called the Honeymoon Capital of the World. This title, however, did not happen overnight. There are various reasons that explain why so many people choose to get married surrounded by a waterfall backdrop. These reasons often include the wonderful natural setting, its unique history, and the inclusion of various activities and attractions that please newlyweds.

The Niagara Falls is the waterfalls and twin cities of the same name located on the Niagara River. The waterfalls are situated in the international border between the United States and C anada and are part of both countries. The United States part of the waterfall is in New York state, while the Canadian section is part of Ontario. Both waterfalls are further pided into two major sections: the American Falls, located on the American side, and the Horseshoe Falls, which lies mostly on the Canadian side.

A number of tourists who have watched the rush of water falling down Niagara Falls have described the view using many terms, including magical, magnificent, and breathtaking. For many recently married couples, visiting the Canadian side of Niagara Falls is generally more popular, as it provides a better view of the rushing water of both waterfalls. Both sides, however, function as destination wedding sites and offer engaged couples the opportunity to exchange their vows(誓言) at various churches and gardens located within the area. Some couples, however, may prefer to get married on the Canadian side to receive a honeymoon certificate signed by the city's mayor.

62. Why is Niagara Falls called the Honeymoon Capital of the World?

A. More and more newly married couples like it.

B. Honeymooning there is a standard for millions of newly married couples.

C. Many nobles got married there.

D. The natural setting, its unique history, and the various activities and attractions attract newlyweds.

63. Why do more married couples prefer the Canadian side of Niagara Falls?

A. It’s less expensive than the other side.

B. It provides a better view of both waterfalls.

C. People can exchange their vows there while at the other side they can’t.

D. It combines old-fashioned romance with modern attractions.

64. Who first made Niagara Falls connected with being a honeymoon destination?

5

A. Vice President Aaron Burr.

B. French Prince Jerome Bonaparte.

C. Theodosia Burr, the daughter of Aaron Burr.

D. Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe.

65. The last two paragraphs mainly deal with____.

A. the history of Niagara Falls as the Honeymooning Capital of the World

B. the service that restaurants and hotels can provide at Niagara Falls

C. the cost young couples need choosing Niagara Falls as destination wedding sites

D. the advantages the newlyweds can take when they choose to honeymoon at Niagara Falls

66.Anna: I get really frustrated easily, and sometimes I end up yelling at people I love. I'm not very sure why it happens, but I have no control over it. How can I stop?

67. Smith: Some kids are making fun of me because I'm doing very well at school. Isn't that something

to be proud of? I need advice.

68. Wilkins: I can't socialize. I am really shy, and I am already a freshman in high school. I

have some new friends, but I am still shy to the cool kids. Can you help me, please?

69. Crick: I always say what I feel immediately and without thinking. Sometimes I get in trouble

for it or feel sorry about it later. Is speaking your mind a good or a bad thing?

70. June: I love to read! But I d on't have any time to read because of all of my activities. I

don’t want to quit anything. What should I do?

A

Instead of feeling upset, you should definitely be proud of yourself. Intelligence is a quality that everyone wants, and as you get older it's going to be what people love and respect about you. Still water runs deep. I'm sure as time goes by, some of those kids making fun of you might realize how cool you actually are.

B

Everyone has to learn how to adapt to society and mix socially with others. No man is an island, as the saying goes. To become a sociable person, you must be naturally friendly. Besides, do something for a social situation. A teacher once gave me this great advice: Prepare a conversation in your head before going into an uncomfortable social situation. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's easy and it works! Get involved in activities that interest you and you will make new friends fast.

C

Always keep a book with you so that you can read during pockets of free time. Turn some of your TV or computer time into reading time. Read for a little while right before bed, and find time to read on weekends. Also, talk to your parents about your schedule. You might not want to quit anything, but you might need to find more free time in order to have a happy balance in your life.

D

That feeling is your conscience, and it's telling you that you need to confess what you did. Be brave and tell your parents. Even if they get upset when they hear about it from you, they would be even more upset to hear about it from your friend's mom. So pick a quiet time and say “Mom, Dad, I need to tell you something, but I'm afraid.” Then spill the beans. No matter what they say, you'll be relieved not to have this secret any more.

E

First, identify what is frustrating you, then learn to calm yourself down. The next time you start feeling frustrated, stop what you're doing and breathe deeply. Count to ten. Get up and walk around. Clear your mind before you come back to the frustrating task. If you keep a cool head, you'll be less likely to snap at others. And if you do yell at someone, apologize and admit that it's not that person's fault. Then calm down and try again.

F

Speaking your mind can be a really good thing. Far too many people don't, except when talking about someone behind that person's back. However, there are times when honesty does more than good

6

like when a girl asks if she looks fat. So in situations in which there's no real good, you are better off keeping your thoughts to yourself. In situations in which that is not the case like when your brother asks if his breath stinks feel free to tell the truth. Just be prepared to take it in return.

第二节书面表达 (满分15分)

In some middle schools, iPads are introduced into classrooms to replace traditional textbooks and assist teachers as well as students in teaching and learning. For us students, we have different opinions toward this phenomenon. Some of us hold the view that it’s a better way to save paper, which definitely does good to environment protection. Moreover, using iPads brings us efficiency and convenience.

However, others tend to believe that iPad costs so much money that not everyone can afford it. Besides, if we spend large quantities of time playing games on it, there is a high risk of

7

being addicted to it, which of course will have bad impact on study.

As for me, I’m in favor of using iPad for we can search for abundant information which can’t be found in traditional textbooks. Of course, every bean has its black. Therefore, it’s a matter of how we can use it properly, not whether we should use it.
