(2017·湖南益阳) The sun is always shining. But it can only shine on one side of the earth at one time. When the sun is shining on one side of the earth, it is night on the other side. At night, you can see the stars. The stars are in the sky all day. But the light from the sun is so bright that you can't see them. When night comes, there is no light, and the stars are bright enough to see. The stars look very small. But some of them are even bigger than the sun. They look small because they are so far away from you. Big things look much smaller when they are far away. The sun is closer (近) to the earth than other stars, so it looks bigger.

It was a sunny day and I walked back home after school. When I stood in front of the door, I was shocked to find that the key had disappeared from my pocket. It was a disaster for me , because I only had one key and my parents were gone for several days.

I walked around the community, hoping to find the lost key. But I couldn’t find it. I called my mum and she told me to go to my aunt’s home. My aunt lives in another building of our community. I was sad, but I had no choice. The next morning, when I was going to school, I saw something shining on the window of the security hut( 保安亭 ). It was my key. “unbelievable!” I was quite surprised as I held the key in my hands.

“Is that yours, kid?” the old guard asked.

(2017·湖南株洲) I was walking around in a big store, when I saw a shop assistant talking to a boy of 5 or 6 years old. The assistant said, “I’m sorry, but you don’t have enough money to buy this doll.” Then the little boy turned to me and asked, “Uncle, are you sure I don’t have enough money?”

I counted his money and replied, “You know that you don’t have enough money to buy the doll, my dear.” I asked him whom he wished to give this doll to. “I wanted to gift the doll to my sister for her birthday. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.” His eyes were so sad while he was saying this.

“My sister has gone to be with God. Daddy said that Mommy is going to see God very soon too. All was because of a traffic accident.” My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said, “I told Daddy to tell Mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the store.”

I quickly reached for my money and said to the boy, “I suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll.” He said, “OK, I hope I do have enough money.” I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy became very excited.

I left the shop, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever. 66.Where did the writer meet the boy?

[ww (2017?江苏苏州) Book Review by Patricia Ann Turner

It is school holiday time and Mitch Morrow’s family have just moved to a new home in a new place, Mitch can’t stop worrying about what his new school is going to be like. He is not even sure about the neighbours. Next door live the Bull family and they have two children^ Di and Bruce.

The older of the two,Bruce,is a large boy, about Mitch’s age. Mitch watches him carry big rocks. He looks really strong and unkind, Mitch gives him the name Bruiser (彪形大汉) because he has a black eye. Did he get it in a fight? Mitch imagines all the worst possible things about Bruiser. He is probably the class bully (恶霸) In his mind Mitch thinks of him as the enemy.

Things seem to get more worrying for Mitch. He finds out he will be in the same class as Bruiser. Then on the first day of school he learns that Bruiser is his buddy for the day.

This is a lovely story for young readers to read or listen to. It has a wonderful message for all children about facing their fears — real and imagined.

The pictures in the book catch the worry Mitch feels and make Bruiser really look like a bad guy.

My only complaint is the colour of the printing of the text. Why there are pages of different coloured print I cannot tell. They may create problems for children with poor eyesight.

I give it four stars.

54. What does Mitch imagine Bruce to be?

(2017·江苏泰州) Recent years have witnessed the returning of bikes across China. An increasing number of people choose cycling instead of driving to school, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. Bike-sharing plans are warmly welcomed in many cities. Mobike had 5.85 million active users while Ofo had 1.4 million in the first week of this year.

People can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their smartphones. All bikes have GPS and can be left anywhere in public for the next user. They’re popular among many Chinese people because they help solve “last-mile” problems in cities. For example, many people find it difficult to get to the hotel when they get off trains or to travel around the city.

However, the plans have also led to problems such as illegal (非法的) parking, vandalism (故意破坏) and theft. In February, two nurses in Beijing were placed under administrative detention (行政拘留) for five days for putting locks on two shared bikes.

In fact, these problems are also shared by bike-sharing plans abroad. Started in 2007, Vélib is the largest public bike sharing system in Paris. At its early period, it also met with problems of vandalism or theft. To deal with these problems, the company came up with the idea of encouraging people to return the bikes to stations by rewarding free time for their next rides.

Now, Chinese service organizations are also trying to deal with these problems. For example, Mobike sets a 100-point credit score (信用分数) for each user, but the points will be taken because of his or her bad behavior. Once a score drops below 80, bike rental (租金) will be increased from 1 yuan to 100 yuan per 30 minutes.

C. (2017?盐城)阅读与回答问题。(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)

(2017?江苏盐城) Last month, heads of state from 29 foreign countries came to Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum(论坛) for International Cooperation(合作). The main goal of it is to make the countries work together in more areas. It has won the support of more than 13 countries and international groups.

As a Chinese student, you must know something about the Silk Road.

Long ago, traders brought treasures from the East to the West. Trips to the East became more favorable when traders found silks and spices(香料). These treasures were not ordinary goods that were easy to get. Many people wanted them and it was a good way to become wealthy.

The Silk Road was not a real road. It was a route(路线) between the East and West. It went through China, Turkey, and Greece. Some traders traveled over land and others sailed across the sea. There was danger along both routes.

中&国教育@出版网^*]

Traders who went over the land used camels and horses. First, the traders crossed the desert. Then, they climbed over mountains. After that, the traders still had hundreds of miles to go. Bad weather was often a problem. Robbers who stole the silks and spices also caused trouble.

Traders who crossed the sea faced some of the same problems. There were storms on the sea. Water and winds could push the boats in the wrong direction. Pirates(海盗) also chased the ships and they stole the goods and took control of the ships.

中国教^&%育出版网Over time, the Silk Road changed people in both the East and West. Traders shared stories about faraway lands. They brought back drawings of the places and things they had seen, which helped people learn about new cultures. As a result of the Silk Road, the world seemed much smaller.
