Device Overview

The 89HPES16T7 is a member of the IDT PRECISE family of PCIExpress switching solutions. The PES16T7 is a 16-lane, 7-port periph-eral chip that performs PCI Express Packet switching with a feature setoptimized for high performance applications such as servers, storageand communications/networking. It provides connectivity and switchingfunctions between a PCI Express upstream port and up to seven down-stream ports and supports switching between downstream ports.

Product Description

Utilizing standard PCI Express interconnect, the PES16T7 providesthe most efficient fan-out solution for applications requiring highthroughput, low latency, and simple board layout with a minimumnumber of board layers. It provides 8 GBps (64 Gbps) of aggregated,full-duplex switching capacity through 16 integrated serial lanes, usingproven and robust IDT technology. Each lane provides 2.5 Gbps ofbandwidth in both directions and is fully compliant with PCI ExpressBase specification 1.1.

The PES16T7 is based on a flexible and efficient layered architec-ture. The PCI Express layers consist of SerDes, Physical, Data Link,and Transaction layers. The PES16T7 can operate either as a store andforward switch or a cut-through switch and is designed to switch memoryand I/O transactions. It supports eight Traffic Classes (TCs) and oneVirtual Channel (VC) with sophisticated resource management to allowefficient switching for applications requiring additional narrow portconnectivity and also some high-end connectivity.
