Ⅰ. The teaching aims:

Let students enjoy a short video about asking and giving direction to create a good atmosphere of studying English.

T: What are they doing?

S: They are asking and giving direction.

T: I also have some similar problems, but who can help me? You know that I am new here and everything is strange for me. I can not wait to go shopping after this class. I want to buy some beautiful clothes and all kinds of fruits. But I don’t know where the clothes store and the supermarket are. So who can you help me now?

2. Reading:

1) Fast reading: 5’

T: Before coming here, I have written to my best friends Anna, John and Lisa to ask them about their neighborhood and how to get to their favorite places. Each of them wrote me back with a map. Do you want to see? Now let walk into their neighborhood together. But it is a pity that mixed the passages and the maps together. Can you match

them for me first?

(20 seconds for students to match, then ask them to show their sources of information.) 2)Careful reading: 15’

a. Read the first passages carefully and answer the questions. All these questions are about the teaching emphasis and difficulties of this class. Let the students master them by asking and answering.

b. Only asking and answering may be a boring way to check students’ reading ability. So I design a retelling part here for checking. Read the third passages carefully and try to retell according to the guidance of the map.

3. Listening: 5’

It’s a pity that John’s passage is dirty. Some of the words are not clear. So I called him and recorded what he said. Can you complete it for me according to sound recording?

4. Writing: 8’

T: We have known Anna’s, John’s and Lisa’s neighborhood. They are beautiful, aren’t they? Now are you willing to write down yours? Let fulfill 3b.Draw a map of your neighborhood and write about it. These questions may help you.

1)Where do you live?

2)What is your favorite place in your neighborhood? Why?

3)How do you get there from your home?

Homework:2’

1. Review the words and sentences of this class.

2. Imagine you are one of the two people in the picture on page 46. You have to tell others how to get to the supermarket of library, please write a composition.

3. Try to preview the content of next class.
