阅读理解。阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 I grew up in a house where the TV was seldom turned on and with one wall in my bedroom entirely lined with bookshelves, most of my childhood was spent on books I could get hold of. In fact, I grew up thinking of reading as natural as breathing and books unbelievably powerful in shaping perspectives (观点) by creating worlds we could step into, take part. in. and live in.

With this unshakable belief, I, at. fourteen, decided to become a writer. Here too, reading became useful. Every writer starts off knowing that he has something to say, but being unable to find the right ways to say it. He has to find his own voice by reading widely and discovering which parts of the writers he agrees or disagrees with, or agrees with so strongly that it reshapes his own world. He cannot write without loving to read, because only through reading other people’s writing can one discover what works, what doesn’t and, in the end, together with lots of practice, what voice he has.

Now I am in college, and have come to realize how important it is to read fiction (文学作品).As a. law student, my reading is in fact limited to subject matter—the volume (量) of what I have to read for classes every week means there is little time to read anything else. Such reading made it all the clearer to me that I live in a very small part in this great place called life. Reading fiction reminds me that there is life beyond my own. It allows me to travel across the high seas and along the Silk Road, all from the comfort of my own armchair, to experience, though secondhand, exciting experiences that I wouldn't necessarily be able to have in my lifetime. ( ) 1. What can be inferred about the author as a child? A. He never watched TV. B. He read what he had to. C. He found reading unbelievable.

D. He considered reading part of his life.

( ) 2. The underlined word \“ ”.

A. an idea B. a sound quality

C. a way of writing D. a world to write about ( ) 3. What effect does reading have on the author? A. It helps him to realize his dream. B. It opens up a wider world for him.

C. It makes his college life more interesting. D. It increases his interest in worldwide travel.

( ) 4. Which of the following can be the best title of this text? A. Why do I read? B. How do I read? C. What do I read? D. When do I read?

专题讲座——阅读理解之细节理解题 ]

Last night I was driving from Harrisburg to Lewisburg, a distance of about eighty miles. It was late.Several times I got stuck behind a slow-moving truck on a narrow road with a solid white line on my left, and I became increasingly impatient. At one point along an open road,I came to a crossing with a traffic light.I was alone on the road by now,but as I drove near the light,it turned red and I made a stop.I looked left, right and behind me.Nothing.Not a car,no suggestion of car lamps, but there I sat, waiting for the light to change, the only human being for at least a mile in any direction.

I started wondering why I refused to run the light.I was not afraid of being caught, because there was clearly no policeman around, and there certainly would have been no danger in going through it.

Much later that night, the question of why I'd stopped for that light came back to me.I think I stopped because it’s part of a contract(契约) we all have with each other. It’s not only the law,but it’s an agreement we have, and we trust each other to honor it:we don’t go through red lights.

Trust is our first inclination (倾向).Doubting others does not seem to be natural to us.The whole construction of our society depends on mutual(相互) trust, not distrust. We do what we say we’ll do;we show up when we say we’ll show up;and we pay when we say we’ll pay.We trust each other in these matters, and we’re angry or disappointed with the person or organization that breaks the trust we have in them. I was so proud of myself for stopping for the red light that night. 1.Why did the author get impatient while driving? A.He was lonely on the road. B.He was slowed down by a truck. C.He got tired of driving too long. D.He came across too many traffic lights.

2.What was the author’s immediate action when the traffic light turned red? A.Stopping still. B. Driving through it.

C.Looking around for other cars. D.Checking out for traffic police. [

3.The event made the author strongly believe that . A.traffic rules may be unnecessary B.doubting others is human nature C.patience is important to drivers[ D.a society needs mutual trust

4.Why was the author proud of himself? A.He kept his promise. B.He held back his anger. C.He followed his inclination. D.He made a right decision. [参考答案] 1-4:BADD,

本文为记叙文,题材属于人物故事类。作者在没有警察且没有其他车辆的情况下仍然遵守交通规则,因为这个社会需要彼此的信任。

We trust each other in these matters and we’re angry or disappointed with the person or organization that breaks the trust we have in them.

本句中含有两个定语从句,that 为关系代词,代指 the person or organization,we have in them 也为定语从句,先行词为trust,关系代词省略掉了。

在这些问题上,我们彼此信任,对于那些我们信任他们而他们却破坏这种信任的人或者组织,我们都感到气愤和失望。

I carry a Rubik’s Cube (魔方) in my backpack. Solving it quickly is a terrific conversation starter. I usually ask people to try it first. They just turn the cube over in their hands, not even knowing where to begin. That’s exactly what it was like for me to learn how to read. Letters and words were out of order. Nothing made sense because I am dyslexic.

The Rubik’s Cube has made me believe that sometimes you have to take a few steps back in order to move forward. This was a reflection of my own life when I had to leave public school after the fourth grade. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I still couldn’t always spell my full name correctly. As a fifth-grader at a new school specializing in what’s called “language-processing disorder”, I had to start over. I then spent the next four years learning how to learn and find strategies that allowed me to return to my district’s high school with the ability to communicate my ideas and express my intelligence.

Now, I can easily solve the 5×5×5. I discover that just before it is solved, a problem can look like a mess, and then suddenly you can find the solution. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

From now on, never spend your precious time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings. Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. Only you have the power to make those seeds grow.

The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the most awesome machine ever created:the human mind. Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You were born rich. You can be a success if only you make the right choice. You cannot be successful without first developing your self-esteem. Your level of self-esteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-esteem are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are the perennial(长期的) victims and martyrs(殉道者). They are leaves tossed(摇摆) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather.

You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe that you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance. Successful people realize that they are responsible.

Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause, we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence.

If you associate with positive-thinking people, you are definitely going to achieve success. On the contrary, the opposite happens. We are responsible for finding, planting, and nurturing the seeds that contain future victory, born from setbacks. In short, in all areas of your life, whether they be financial, physical, emotional, or spiritual, you are responsible. Once you recognize this, accept it, and firmly believe it, you are on the road to success.

A. success is the result of hard work B. their failure is only because of bad luck

Have you ever wondered: What drives successful people? Take a look around and talk to your friends and seniors who are very successful, you will see all of them have adopted certain values which have proved vital for their success.

It is evident that successful people take initiative (主动性). When they find something needs to be done, they just do it instead of waiting. They believe that

D. they

responsibility is taken, not given. They weigh immediately what has to be done and then do it with pleasure, thus strengthening their reputation.

Successful people are enthusiastic about the things they do, especially when they believe in what they are doing. They are motivated by their own satisfaction and the joy they get from doing their work. They work hard even when no one is watching and they throw themselves into their work.

They do not fear failure. Failures and disappointments in life are unavoidable. It is failure that teaches us much more than success. Successful people pick themselves up after a fall and try again with more determination and commitment and learn from each failure. They associate with those they can learn from and enjoy the company of those who appreciate their achievement.

Having good IQ often gets a person what he wants but it’s really the EQ that keeps him there and helps him enjoy a high reputation. Successful people are polite to everyone and treat others with respect. By giving respect to others, they command respect for themselves.

Another important quality of successful persons is that they never complain. It’s better to praise others and win favor with them. So instead of complaining about a situation, successful people always try to solve it.

To put it shortly, take initiative and be enthusiastic about them. Do not be afraid to fail, but get up and start again. When you do so, success will be just around the corner.
