It was a cold night in Washington,D.C.and I was heading back to the hotel when a man approached me. He asked if I would give him some money so he could get something to eat. I d read the signs: “Don`t give money to

panhandlers(乞丐)” So I shook my head and kept walking.

I wasn t prepared for a reply, but with resignation, he said,“ really am homeless and I really am hungry! You can come with me and watch me eat!” But I kept on walking.

The incident bothered me for the rest of the week. I had money in my pocket and it wouldn t have killed me to hand over a buck or two even if he had been lying. On a frigid, cold night, no less,I assumed(呈现) the worst of a fellow human being.

Flying back to Anchorage, I couldn`t help thinking of him. I tried to rationalize my failure to help by assuming government agencies, churches, and charities were there to feed him. Besides, you`re not supposed to give money to panhandlers.

Somewhere over Seattle, I started to write my weekly garden column for The Anchorage Daily News. , the soup kitchen in Anchorage, feeds hundreds of hungry Alaskans every day. Why not try to get all my readers to plant one row in their gardens dedicated to Bean`s? Dedicate a row and take it down to Bean`s. Clean and simple.

Have you ever had dreams about building a robot? Or putting together a spaceship? Or even seeing your face made out of chocolate? Done. All you need is a 3-D printer!

The possibilities of 3-D printing seem endless. All the user has to do is to

design an object on the computer and choose a material to print in. The

printers print in hundreds of different materials including glass, sugar and

even skin! When the user presses “print”, the 3-D printer spreads the material

layer(层) by layer and like magic the object is produced.

The first 3-D printer was invented in 1986 by an American, Charles Hull. But 3-D printing has only become cheap enough recently for most people to use. Designers now use 3-D printing to create unusual things. The Dutch artist Dirk Vander Kooj prints furniture made from old fridges. And doctors have used 3-D printing to print human body parts! The Telegraph reported in February that scientists from Cornell Medical College even printed a man-made ear. group of four men in the US used 3-D printing to produce ATM skimmers (提款机盗刷器). These were placed on an ATM and stole over $400,000 from users of the ATM. It is terrible to think that criminals like them might one day use a 3-D printer to print a gun.

But for better or for worse, 3-D printing has been put into use. In a few years, you ll probably be wondering how you could ever live without your 3-D printer!

New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out in March. Middle schools are going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students won t only have high marks. They will also be kids who don t dye(染) their hair. The following are some of the new rules.

Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone else s work on an exam? Don t do it again! That s not something an honest student should do. If you have played computer games for two hours in your room, don t tell your parents you have done homework.

Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is Bird-loving month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join! In that way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them. When more people work together, it makes it more fun for everyone.Have you ever quarreled with your teammates when your basketball team lost? Only working together can make your team stronger. Be friendly to the people you are with. Try to think of others, not only yourself.

Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you ll discover Earth Ⅱ some day. Don t look down on new ideas. Everyone s ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.

Protect yourself. Has someone ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don t let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should let your parents know.

Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for your studies. But some things on the Internet aren t for kids, so try to look at web pages that are good for you. You can use the web for fun or homework. Can t you find any good websites for children? Here are some: Http://

One day, Xiao Ming saw a little girl fall over.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

One day, Xiao Ming saw a little girl fall over. He ran to help the girl up without think twice, but his mother stopped him and said, “Don t do that. Otherwise, people will think it was you who knocked her down.” Days later, the mother was shocked to see Xiao Ming just leave the fallen oil bottle laying beside to him and did nothing. She shouted angrily, “Can t you see the fallen oil next to you? You are supposed to pick it up?” But Xiao Ming talked back to his mother immediately, “If I had picked it up, you would have thought that I did it.”

Mom felt frustrated. However, it serves her right. I disagree with what the mother did in the story. I think parents should set a good example to their children. Everything they say or do becomes a part of kids life and changes them. They should not only care for their children s health, but their minds. They should make an effort to educate their children that it is a pleasure to help others who are in trouble. We live in the society which is a big family for all of us.

Everyone should do something good to build up our society, right?
