Guangxi Medical Botanical Garden

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Guangxi Medical Botanical Garden! Guangxi Medical Botanical Garden is the only research unit that occupied in the domestication, preservation and cultivation of Chinese medicinal herbs in Guangxi. With more than 4000 kinds of medicinal plants, 12000 wax specimen, and 10 000 plant pictures, Guangxi Medical Botanical Garden is honoured as the No.1 herbal garden in the Asian-Pacific region. What’s more amazing is that the amount of medicinal plants in the garden is much more than that in Li Shizhen’s Ben Cao Gang Mu, namely, Compendium of Materia Medica. Thus, it is also called stereoscopic Ben Cao Gang Mu.

Dear guests, now we are at the Sickness Treatment Gallery. The gallery is followed the prescriptions which are selected from Ben Cao Gang Mu, Chinese Traditional medicine, Korean Oriental medicine, Japanese Kampo medicine and other countries’ phytomedicine, even Guangxi minority group medicine. According to human being’s system diseases, the section can be divided over 200 prescriptions and more than 300 medicinal plants. Some are unique use, while some are various uses. Some are common species, while some are special species from wild mountain forests or, introduced from overseas.

Ok, here is the Herb Section. In the ancient days, people thought that, the universe was in harmony and fostered all lives. This included herbs. In different growing conditions, the herbs can be in different medicinal characters. It can be a good herb due to it is affected with nimbus or, be a poisonous herb due to crime. Li Shi-zhen found that in many prior medical books, though plenty herbs were recorded, but they were not organized. Thus, he collected the information, with sorting it out, correcting mistakes, and filling in missing items, then finished the book Ben Cao Gang Mu. 611 species of medicinal herbs were recorded. It mainly consists of eight classes of herbs, including fragrant herbs, marshland herbs, poisonous herbs, mountain herbs, creeping herbs, water grass, stone herbs, and weeds. This section exhibits 366 species of herbs which are recorded in Ben Cao Gang Mu, and some

modern or homonym herbs.
