[Teaching objectives]
Language functions : 1.The students can understand, speak, read and write the following new words: glue.
2.The students can understand, speak and read the following new words: a postcard, an e-mail, a fax machine, a telephone number, writing paper, an envelope.
Skills: 1.Raise the pupils' interest to write in English.
2.Encourage the pupils to have good cooperation with each other, help each other and learn from each other. Encourage the pupils to use language for communication in real life.

New words: an envelope, a fax machine.
[Teaching difficult points]
The pronunciation of the word: envelope.

1.Multi-media.
2.Cassettee & tape recorder.

Step 1 Warming up exercises

1.Present the new lesson.
T: Today I’m very happy because I received a letter from my penfriend. (T writes the title of Unit 7 on the Bb. )
2.Present the new words.
2.1 T presents the new words of e-mail and a fax machine, a telephone number with the
Multi-media.
2.2 T presents the new words of writing paper, an envelope, postcard, glue with real objects.
Step 4 Practise
1. Play a game High and low voice.
2.Play the multi-media. Ask the pupils to watch the flash cartoon, and then try to catch the voice.
3. Read after the tape.
Step 5. Production

Divide the whole class into several groups. Let the students make dialogues in their group with the new words.

Present the new lesson. The teacher shows the six pictures in Part C and asks one of the students to come to the blackboard to have a dialogue with the teacher.

T: I want to write to Tom.
S: Sure. Here you are.
Step 4 Practise
1.The teacher pides the students into two groups. The boys ask, the girls answer. Then
exchange.
2.The teacher asks the students to make up dialogues in pairs.
3.The teacher designs some tasks: write a letter to your English teacher; design a wall newspaper;
design a postcard; make an envelope.
4.The teacher asks the students to practise the dialogue in groups.
5.The students act out the dialogue in the front.
Step 5. Production
1.The teacher introduces the background of the dialogue.
The teacher plays the recorder. The students listen to the tape and fill in the blankets.

In thi s lesson, student’s will:
1.learn some vocabulary about a letter.
2.study the format for a letter.
3.know the “recipe” for a letter.
4.gather ideas for their own letters.
5.write a letter to a friend.

do?

V Teaching and learning process
Step One-Time to focus (6 minutes)
1.Warming-up exercises (2 minutes).
The teacher starts by havi ng student’s ask in pairs who they usually write letters to and if they get letters from overseas. Ask pairs to report to the class.
2.Presentation (2 minutes).
The teacher shows the students two pen pal letters. One is in English, the other is in Chinese. Ask the
students to read the letters and compare the forms. Call attention to the date, the solution, the opening, the body and the closing.
3. Learning some new words. (2 minutes)
Have students follow the instructions. Circling words or phrases they think they world use in writing their letters.
Step Two-Time to Study. (12 minutes)
1.Class Discussion. (3 minutes)
The teacher discusses with the class the form of a letter in English. The teacher tells them the recipe for writing a letter to a penfriend. Then to number the writing steps to show which comes first, second and so on.
2.Filling in blanks. (2 minutes)
The teacher asks the students to complete the items in the following letter with some missing words.
3. A game (2 minutes)
Students now decide who they will write to. An interesting game to let students write to each other is to have them write their names on small stripes of paper, fold them and then mix all the papers so student can pick names at random.
4.Group Discussion. (3 minutes)
Ask the students to get more specific information in groups. Point out they should pay attention, not only to the forms but also to the language and the ideas.
5.V ocabulary Help. (2 minutes.) Let the student use dictionaries and also tell them the teacher is always ready to give vocabulary help
Step Three-Time to write. (27 minutes)
1.Writing Inpidual (10 minutes). Let the students write their own letters step by step according to the “recipe” for writing a letter. Urge them to follow every step. Student s write their first draft.
2.Group Activity (5 minutes) Divide the students into 6 groups. The student’s read their first draft in their group and get more specific information that will make the paragraph more interesting.
3.Pair Work (5 minutes) Ask the partners compare their draft, ask each other how they can improve their letters and make correction if necessary.
4.Editing (3 minutes) Students now practice editing for grammar, punctuation and format by themselves.
5.Typing and mailing (4 minutes) After students rewrite their letters, a more demanding follow-up would involve pairs or groups working together to type their letters or print them out using a word process or computer and mail them.
VI. Assessment (2 minutes at the end of the class or after class)
1.Have students hand in two copies of their completed letter-one for the teacher, and the other with an envelope, to deliver to their readers. (Prepare a Post Box before Class)
2.If time permits, a sampling of student’s might read his letter.
VII Reflection
1.Writing a letter in English may be new to students. They are interested in the activity.
2.V ocabulary may be a problem for students’ writing about hobbies and personal interests. Let students spent time using a dictionary for the using activity.
3.Students should write on every other line to allow space for corrections. While students will generally correct their own (or a partner’s work) occasionally it is a good idea for the teacher to take the work in and look at the kind of errors being made to take the work in and look at the kind of errors being made.
4.In this lesson, students study a particular type of writing, which is very familiar to them. This activity is an example of “parallel writing”-where students stick closely to a model they has been given, and where the model guides their own efforts.
