Teaching Plan for Special Topic: Proofreading

Lecturer: Xie Rongji

◎Three dimensional teaching aims:

Knowledge aims:

1. Let the Ssknow about proofreading, especially its types of mistaking.

2. Make the Ss know the way to work out proof reading.

Ability aims:

1. Develop the Ss' abilityof finding out mistakes.

2. Encourage the Ss to spot the relation between proofreading and composition, training their ability of comparison.

3. Enable the Ss to obtain knowledge by researching, cooperating and experiencing. Emotional aims:

1. Help the Ss to realize everyone will make mistakes however great he /she is. When we make mistakes, don b'e t too nervous.

2. Make the Ss realize it is what we can do that matters not what we worry about if we meet difficulty.

◎Teaching emphasis:

Master main mistakes appearing in the text and grasp the methods to correct them. ◎Teaching aids:

Chalk board, Multi-media, printed exercise materials

◎Teaching process:

Step I. Lead in (3 minutes)

1. Ask the Ss some questions about the mistakes appearing in their life. (Presenting the questions on the screen or asking the questions one by one)

(1) Have you made any mistakes in the last few months?

(2) If so, what will you do when facing the mistakes?

(3) And do you think there isa man who has never made mistakes so far?

(4) Do you consider it serious if you make a mistake?

2. Let the Sshave a discussion in pairs and draw the following conclusion:

In our daily life, everyone will make a mistake, if we correct them in time , we are good fellows.

We make progress in the process of making mistakes, finding out mistakes and correct mistakes.

Step II. Presentation (7 minutes)

T: In our daily life, everyone will make a mistake, if we correct them in time, we are good fellows. And also when we are using a language, we may make some mistakes. Do you want to correct them?

T: Ok, please remember “ Onelearns a language by making mistakes and correct them” Today we are going to learn “ howto do proof reading.(show this topic on the slide) ”

1. Give the followi ng sen ten ces on the slide:

2. Analyze the kinds of mistakes appearing in thesesentences.

3. Show the follow ing table on the slide and let the Ss know about what kinds of grammar mistakes oftenappear in proof reading of NMET2009-2015.

From the chart above the Ss can easily find which types are often tested, the Teacher leads the S to realize how many mistak ing types accordi ng to the chart, and know that grammar is very importa nt in deed.

Step III. Practice (12 minutes)

The day before yesterday I told you to write a short composition, do you remember? I' veevaluated all of your homework. Now I choose one of your compositions as our proofreading material. Of course I ' vepolished your composition to meet the need of “ proofreading' that is, one is correct, and the rest belong to wrong words, missing words, and unnecessary words, only one mistake each line excluding a correct one.

Give the passage on theslide and ask the students to discuss it.

Welcome to our hometown-Wanghai City for an inspection. Our hometown is rich and beautifully. It has a population of 950,000, about 30 percent of which are workers and over 50 percent of which are peasants go in for farming and fishing. A lot of apples is produced here. Great changes have taken place before 1978. An economic development zone with a population of more than 40,000 has built. Education is developing rapidly. There are 13 middle schools and yet 365 primary schools. About 12 percents of the people are well educated. A railway station and a port, though big, connect the city with many main cities of our country, play an important role in the development of the economy. People's living conditions have obviously beenimproved.

About seven minutes late, some Ss will be questioned and the reason should be presented. Finally we summarize our answers on the screen. This time four groups will be asked to present their answers at one time to see which one is the best. Suggested an swers:

StepIV. Explaining howto do proofreading in detail (10 minutes)

Show the following techniques of doing proof reading on the slide. And do some exercises to make sure the Ss know well the steps and ways of solving the problems.

First ask some Ss about their own way of doing proofreading, and then present the following on the screen.

2 在理解大意的基础上,审查句子结构

3 从语法结构入手,进行语法改错

4 通读全文解题方法:从以下方面入手

1.冠词:注意固定结构,特指泛指,

7.介词:注意固定短语.介词后宾语形式

StepV. Group work.

1. Give a secondpassage on the slide. Divide the students into groups of four and have a competition: which group can get the correct answers first? Pay attention to the above methods.(the following presented on the screen)

2、浏览全文,了解概貌,上下联系

面对一个改错题,不能急于埋头做题,应先通读全文,虽然短文有错,但对

篇文章的阅读不会构成太大的障碍,切忌不通读全文,采用边阅读边改正的方法

这样可能会导致局部与整体的脱节。

3、区别对待,提高效率

般来说,针对题型设计的形式,采取相应的对策,则事半功倍。对于错词

项,常见的是搭配和语法错误,漏词常常是冠词、介词、连词等虚词,对于多词

可根据全句名词、动词的特点、搭配和含义及全句的结构来判断,对于从句,

查看关系代词(副词),二是看动词时态和语态,三是检查名词的形式是否正确

是否是可数或不可数,冠词是否少了、多了以及是否用得当,碰到代词,要注意

的性、数、格等方面的问题以及形容词修饰名词,副词修饰动词。

4、重阅全文,认真推敲

做完题后,定要再次审阅一遍,复查是解题的最后一道工序。这时要检查

是各个部分是否处理得当,句子是否顺畅,行文是否合乎逻辑。
