College Is Not a Waste of Time

As CharlEs Murray demonstrated in the article called “For Most People, College Is a Waste of Time”, an educational world based on certification tests would be a better place in many ways than degree tests. A degree can’t prove the bachelor’s ability and that he can carry into job interviews, though four years and expensive tuition are required. Consequently, CharlEs Murray came to the conclusion that college is a waste of time.

In my opinion, this point of view doesn’t hold water.No one can deny that collegeplays a very important role in one's life, not a waste of time,although four years is required, residence and expensive tuition are required under a degree system in which degree does not fully reflect a person's all ability to an extent.

What is the most important in a job is to understand and master the knowledge, which can be applied to the practice reasonably. Under a certification system, a certification means that applicants have the knowledge, for instance, if he had passed the CPA exam, it can prove that he has understood most of the knowledge in the area of accounting, however,that does not mean that the applicant is able to apply the knowledge to the work perfectly and has the ability to solve the problems in the practical work. Therefore the recruiter also does not judge if the applicant with a certification is qualified for the job. Whether the person has the ability to work well largely depends on the accumulation of experience in the work, and so on, and knowledge in the early partaccounts for only a small part. What is the most important thing is the application. In that conclusion, to measure the applicant according to the certificate or degree is not an option.

Although some people with a degree are not outstanding, the main purpose of the university is the developing of ability and thinking in addition to getting knowledge. life. Actually after graduating from college, the professional knowledge learnedin college is used little by littlein real life and the work, eventhe work a lot of people engaged in and the professionin the college don’t have any contact, and the knowledge learned on book nearly will be forgotten completelyin five to ten years after graduation. The key to success is not how much knowledge that a person has learned. Many skillslearned in the university can benefit your whole life, for example: the ability of critical reading-so you can make a clear exposition of complex action planwhen working; the necessary writing skills –this allows you to interpret your point clearly to the colleagues; the ability to think independently-this help you avoid parroting; and the ability of lifelong learning –it allows you to cope with the changing between work and entertainmenteasily.

Science and technology have already become the core competitive power of the country and the energetic students are the bearing and carry forward in the national science and technology. The history of the modern world suggests that when a country's economic development reaches a certain level, the main drivers of economic growth are the science and technology innovation. Looking from the history of the developed countries, many important scientific breakthroughs that lead economic developmentsare relying on the university, and each high-tech citywhich is famous around the world is relying on one or a few high level universities, such as the rise and developmentof silicon valley, the world famous high-tech park,are closely connected with the Stanford university. Practice has proved that the university is the cradle of cultivating high-quality innovative talents, the soil to produce new ideas, new knowledge, new theory and new technology, the base of scientific research and technological development and hatching new knowledge industry. College plays an important roleand in an important strategic positionin the national technology innovation and development of high and new technology industry. And in the future development, especially in the development of knowledge economy, the position and role of college will be more and more prominent.

We can come to the conclusion that college is not a waste of time.On the contrary, the university educationplays a vital rolein the cultivation of talents and development

of a person’s life.
